The New York City Board of Health voted Thursday to ban the sale of sugary soft drinks larger than 16 ounces at restaurants. I guess that means gas stations too, since most of them contain kitchens now. Fuck this shit. If people who gross you out want a big gulp, they are adults and can choose to buy it. The government, big daddy, is out of control. I could give a rat's ass if the fucks buy a barrel of it and a long straw and the barrel can have wheels so their fat ass can push it around. They can buy an extra bus ticket for their barrel of sugar fizz. No one should give one fuck. No one should tell them they can't, 'specially not the government. I haven't had soda all week here, I couldn't fit my beloved 8 pack of Coke into the grocery bill. We have some HyVee brand hidden in the crisper. No one ever looks in the vegetable crisper. I gave Lis one yesterday. When she turns 21 she can buy barrels of it for all I care. I shouldn't even have to make this post. No one should tell any adult what legal item they can and can't buy. No one should watch dog any adult. It's insulting and stupid. The New York Board Of Health has their own internal problems to fix. Governments have become a corruption of leaky misused public funds. THEY are the real problem, not my fat ass. Or yours. And do not have the nerve to tell me about insurance paying for obesity when our government is the known thief stealing from us by the trillions year after year. Some of it went for stupid shit like this. Limiting soda for adults. Farking please. Idiot controlling theives.

fucking ridiculous....IF they wanted to make a statement about HFCS and it's impact upon health, etc they could have lobbied manufacturers to stop using HFCS and go back to sugar and actually would have done some good as it would have educated more people about HFCS....but instead, they want to be the nanny state and try to tell adults what they can/cannot buy and it's fucking RIDICULOUS....i don't even drink pop but shit like this makes me wanna go to NYC and buy 2 16 oz. pops together and say 'fuck you bloomberg'!
I know. They act like people are too stupid to buy more than one. Manfacturers are allowed to put in deadly chems and that's okay. I hate them.
yeah, that's what gets me, no one does anything about the deadly chemicals.....and somehow it's the CONSUMERS responsibility and/or fault and they have to be treated like little kids....irks my ire.....
I too wondered how they would stop someone from buying 2 cups. Maybe you will have to show your ID to get the drinks...and then only one per customer. How about refills at a restaurant? And at these restaurant, will they be stopping desert or will you have to step on a scale to see if you qualify for desert. Wow, think of all the fat people they can save. And what about bakeries, are the next?
Jane, best way to solve the desert problem is by not ordering a meal first. Go straight to the desert section of the menu. I've been threatening to do that for years. One Of These Days :)
My son told me yesterday that they can't wear camouflage to school anymore because it promotes violence. Are u fricken kidding me??
On the other side, people that choose to fill their bodies with chemical filled soda and too much of it, want all of us that don't to pay the health care cost associated with it. As the price of health care goes up due to obesity and chemicals and preservatives, so does everyone's health insurance.
CJ...I like your way of thinking. I have always wanted to do the same thing--go straight to the desert. But I guess it was the way I was raised. I would feelguilty eating desert first. I figure, if I could eat my desert first, I probably wouldn't eat as much. It would be like a diet----eat desert and eat less! I can reason anything out to my way of thinking! It's a gift!!!
The gov't. doesn't say that part of the reason we pay more for health coverage is because we are living longer. If I can't be happy and live my life like I want, I don't want to live longer.

i think people ARE stupid. if they wern't, these extreme measures at preventing obesity and resulting medical conditions such as diabeties wouldnt be necessary. obesity associated medical conditions are destroying families, stretching medical resources and ruining childrens health. these sick making products should be banned from society in the same way that asbestos and other hazardous poisons are banned.

They are in Denver, the gang's in Detroit. This makes zero sense to me. Detroits a BAD place to be, I agree 110%. But why can't kids in Denver wear Peytons jersey? Kids here still wear Peytons Indy jersey. Denver is allowing the gangs in Detroit to control them. IMO. Stupid a**es.

The soda rules don't go far enough! There are still too many things that stupid people do that are bad for them. People spend way too much time staring at tvs and computers and cell phones and everybody knows that isn't healthy. All electronics should be programmed to shut off after an hour so stupid people are forced to take a break. Also every chair should be made with electronic sensors that can tell how long a person has been sitting in it, and a device that pushes the person out of the chair after 30 minutes. Stupid people just need reminders to get off their fat asses and exercise! Think how much better the world would be if the government was just given more power to force all of us stupid people to do the things that we might not want to do, but are for our own good!

It drives me crazy to see people just give their rights away because the govt says it's for their own good. I don't want the govt making decisions for ALL of us just because some people are stupid. Freedom means stupid people get to be stupid and live with the consequences of their stupidity. I would rather be free and responsible for my decisions and live with the consequences than be a safe and healthy ward of the govt.
you have to wonder WHY a large soda went from "normal" to "mega" sized in 40 years. Who decided that people weren't getting enough soda or that it would be a good idea to offer something that massive?
Unfortunately normal people have always suffered due to the lack of sense or iq in a minority. It's why health & safety laws are now rampant & common sense can no longer prevail. That & a culture of entitlement added to the view that Excessive consumption is a human right.
I made a cake while reading this today. Can't wait for it to come out of the oven. Some people worry too much about other people. Just imagne how nice life would be if everyone would JUST MIND THEIR OWN DAMN BUSINESS! And I have paid my own way through life AND I have paid for others through high taxes just like everyone else. I've worked all my life and paid my dues. I deserve what little happiness I get, no matter what form it takes. For those people who hate others for no reason, shame on you! You must be a very sad person or just plain ignorant.

and if companies reduce their mega drinks back to normal size while charging the mega price they will make an even greater profit. maybe a percentage of their greater profit could go towards paying welfare for those who have become too sick to work. this will relieve tax payers from carrying the burdon of allowing stupid people to do what the fuck they like. lol
