Look how gorgeous this Fuchsia is. I really didn't know what it was. It was a free plant that's been hanging around all Summer with no blooms and I'm not real familiar with the leaves. Then it bloomed and I went, ohhh, that's a Fuchsia. I've never seen Fuchsia blooms that big. They look like fancy delicate ballerinas dancing all around the bottom of the pot. It bloomed just in time for a hard frost to kill it. I think that's called irony in the plant world. Damn.
It's cold here now in the mornings. I have the heat on. I love the Fall best of all though and the leaves have turned and started coming down. The Earth feels old. I like the smell of it all and I like dragging out my warm jackets and socks. I also like changing my purse to my Chinese Laundry pumpkin bag. It's sort of a pain in my ass because of the zipper, but, it's tradition here. Lissa says, "Get your punkin' purse, grandma!" She had decided her costume would be a vampire kitty, because she loves vampires and kittens. It made sense to me and I had it figured out when her mother talked her into going as a rock and roll girl. So she could do her makeup. Which she probably won't do. Aren't there like a 1000 little girls dressed like rock and roll girls every year? I don't even know what a rock and roll girl is. A groupie? Vampire Kitty is original and I think I'll go ahead and make it as a back up. I never know who's going to have her on holidays anyway.
We had this vampire book come in to the shop and we don't sell things like that, so I got to bring it home. I gave it to Lis and she went nuts. She loves that book. It has hidden things in it. Little fold out notes, slit and fold horror slides, things you can only read backwards in a mirror and these weird photo negatives that you can only see if you warm them with your hand first. She had days of fun discovering the secrets and she's still finding them. She thinks it's the best book ever and she's convinced the vampire is stalking her to get his journal back. I have to sleep with it next to me, so if the vampire comes at night he won't find her. I think she knows it's bullshit, but, she loves the game she's made up. It's very elaborate and she's into it. So, rock and roll girl? Really? How ordinary. Pfffffft. All I said was, I'd better not see your butt hanging out and I mean it. I wish people would let her think for herself. What comes out of her mind is much more interesting. At least, I think so.
What costumes do you have going on?

i am going as a 'costume documenter' as always!! 3 weeks from today!!! DOWNTOWN KENT!! NO I AM NOT EXCITED AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
vampire kitty sounds awesome....that book sounds awesome!!! think i might look for a copy of that myself! :)
Cool beans! You'll put photo on you journal, right? I always enjoy your Halloween photos.
I'll send you the book when she's through with it, if you want. She has a short attention span..lol. It's a really nice big book.
YES!!!! whereas i have lapsed and YET to post any zoo photos on my journal---only on my FB so far---i ALWAYS post my halloween pix, with commentary, on my journal AND make a video....i am SO not excited i have the music already loaded into windows movie maker ready to make my video that night when i get home!!! :)
oh i posted the other day a short 54 second vid showing eddie's wooden grinch i resurrected.... youtube link to the grinch has risen ....one grinch item off my list!!
that book might be one that KEEPS her attention!!!
You did a great job on that!
I dunno. She loves the book, but, she's been at it a week now. That's an alltime record for attention to anything but Justin Bieber. If Beiber ever gets cast in a vampire movie I don't know what I'll do.
I have a perfect Professor Minerva McGonnagall costume. Down to the glasses, wig and wand, and an official hat. I got the Sorting Hat too so she can conduct the Sorting Hat ceremony. The wands came out amazing. I am going to make Lissa one and send it to you. It looks very real and old and craggy. I thought she might enjoy it for Halloween. She can do "magic" on her kitty! LOL. IF that's ok with you. I don't want to assume anything is ok for someones child. Some people would object. I think she'd love it!! Ohhh! We even made a perfect Voldermort wand, its white and looks boney! Amazing. Soooo fun.

Nice! We can always use special wands. It's in our nature. :)
worked on the grinch on/off for months dependent on the weather, etc...now i have a name plate grinch to seal with kilz and repaint and then the SNOW GLOBE, eek! that's like painting an intricate model and the snow globe is TEXTURED! nope, never painted a model before....but the snow globe cost me $55 9 years ago and we can't find it now...couldn't clean all the smoke off, so i'll repaint it....
i hope you haven't jinxed that and justin bieber doesn't play a vampire in a movie somewhere!!!
My daughter would have loved that book as a kid!! She was a Chinese vampire at that age, her own creation. Right now she's 14 and talking about sitting in a dark room, taping halved-ping pong balls to her eyes as an experiment in sensory deprivation. Sounds incredibly weird to me but whatever. I don't say that out loud.
Youngest wants to be Tinkerbell and the 11 y/o and his friends are going as cardboard boxes. Just a box with their arms and legs sticking out. One less costume I have to make!
Besides going to the Day of the Dead (Dia de la Muerta) event at Hollywood Forever Cemetery where we dress as calavera, Brett and I are going as Ed and Trixie Norton from the Honeymooners, which compared to the other posts here, sounds pretty dull. Haha
Ed & Trixie!!! What a fantastic costume idea!!! can't wait to see the pictures!!! And i'd love to go to an event at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery!!
Ah, thanks, Tia. You always say the right thing. Love ya for that. I wish all of us here on the blog could go to the Day of the Dead event together. It is just an awesome spectacle of sights and sounds and scents. I sent DD a pic of me in DOTD regalia;perhaps you will post here? x0
PS - that Fuchsia is so beautiful, like miniature lanterns. Do they have a smell?
i wish we could all go to the day of the dead event together too!! and/or to halloween in kent!! DD's FIELD TRIPS!! :)
Your fuschia looks like tiny fairies dancing in the air. I never had any luck with them. Those are very stout. You did something right.

Maybe I'll drive over for Halloweenie in Kent next year. No can do this year. Need to make plans for a sleepover, tho.
When The Kid was in college I had to send her old GS uniform from 5th grade. She dressed as Vampire Girl Scout for many years, except for the year she wore a kid's size 6/8 Tootsie Roll costume. (if you look in the dictionary for the word petite, you will see her picture)
Yes let her think for herself!she is so creative:) so good too see you today and thanks for the excelant reading and the added bonus on the end, made me cry of course...Love You Cindy
It's always good to see you, Cindy. Hugs.
you'd definitely have to make plans for a sleepover....we usually leave downtown around 12:30/1am.....i like to get downtown around 8 to take some pix/video of things going on then, usually not much, but SOME things and some costumes i won't be seeing later and i am always SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! then determining how quickly downtown is filling up, i'll go to eddie's and bounce up and down for about a half hour til he decides to go (basically to get me to stop bouncing up and down) and then our wandering begins!!! YEAH!!!!! but it's usually cold---usually.....i bought hand warmers last year---those ones you can twist or something and they heat your hands? didn't need 'em....so i still have 'em (i am PREPARED!!!).......but then yeah, 3-4 hours of wandering......some people will set up lawn chairs in store front doorways, but the year eddie needed neck surgery we stood a lot and you seriously don't get that many good pictures or costumes.....you can always hop on one of the 2 or 3 hay rides circling downtown too....there is really no way to describe it, you seriously just have to experience it.....when i tell people that yeah, you basically just walk around downtown for hours with about 20,000 other people in a 4-6 block radius, people don't get it......you just HAVE to experience it!!!
Walking for 3-4 hours doesn't bother me. Being in crowds like that doesn't bother me. COLD does bother me. Need to dress like Nanook of the North!
yeah, i always dress warm!! fleece lounge wear pants i have found keep my legs warm, 2 pair of socks, long sleeved t-shirt, t-shirt, sweatshirt, button up shirt, rain coat (has lots of inside/outside protected pockets for my batteries, hand warmers, other equipment), i carry my ear muffs just in case and gloves too, though i might make myself a pair of fingerless gloves this year, so i can take pix and keep most of my hands warm.....i wear 2 bandanas too.....it's always amazing to see the half naked people out cuz you know they're cold as hell!!
