The Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds doll

Mattel almost got this one right, didn't they? Indeed, it's a good likeness. However, they were too light with the painting of the face...for one thing. Liz had heavy brows. Really heavy. The doll has slightly lighter brows and slightly shorter brows. I suppose the wanted to modernize the look a little for today's taste. They shouldn't have. They got the nose almost correct. Liz had the most perfect nose ever formed. It was perfectly proportioned and straight with an ever so slight upturn at the end. She had sharp nostrils, but, they were balanced by the size and placement. She had a lovely mouth where the bottom lip was full and much larger than the top lip, which was bowed. The corners of her mouth could be twitched ever so slightly and combined with one slight eyebrow movement to show a range of emotions. In short, she had one of the most perfect faces ever created. I think if Mattel had fixed those brows and filled in the eye liner all the way to the nose, this doll face might have been perfect.

I can not figure out why, when you go to such trouble to make an Elizabeth Taylor doll, you would use and old Barbie mold for the body. Maybe Mary Mary can tell me. I know there's some expense, but, these dolls aren't cheap. I would have made a new body and limb mold. In this doll, the waist measurement is perfect. If you watch old Liz movies, there were times in her youth, when her waist was actually smaller around than her head. So, the waist, for once, is correct. But, Liz was not leggy. She was very short. She had a short neck too. That doll's long neck is really throwing me off in my perceptions of who it is supposed to represent. It's Barbie's neck. If you made the legs shorter, you'd need new arms too. If I was Mattel, I would have gone to the trouble.

The hair is wrong too. Liz had great hair and usually wore it short back then, with little bangs. The style is just wrong. I have never seen that hair on Liz. Liz's hair swung and bounced, even when it was very short. She had the best hairdressers. Still, for a celebrity doll, it's a pretty good one. There is another one called The Violet Eyes, it's HERE. I don't like it as much as The White Diamonds doll. It's the hair. I suppose good hair is difficult in such a small representation. The accessories are adorable though. Check them out.

Look at that! She even has a tiny script to contemplate. She needs a tiny Debbie Reynolds doll to fight with. That would be some good doll play there.
