Today's finds

My $3 dollar chair. It's not that pretty, not that old, but, it's not that ugly either and it has good springs so it's comfy. I have an empty spot in the other room, I can put it there. It's like an Edith Bunker chair. I have some Bunker type end tables that are actually cool. If I decide I hate the chair, I can use it for lawn furniture. That's the beauty of $3 dollar furniture.

Scored that old jacket for $2 bucks. I can't decide if it's rock star cool or just old lady junk. I may wear it or just save the very cool HUGE black jeweled buttons. That long yellow beaded candle holder and the old wooden ball were both in the free box. They'll go in the garden. This guy was also selling 'dinosaur eggs' for $10 bucks each. Round rocks. And a ton of animal skulls, teeth and antlers. I wanted some of those, but, he valued them too much. He liked talking about it though. I think the people who sell these things are more interesting than the things sometimes.

Close up of a button. These things are bigger than a fidy cent piece, it says 'sterling' on the back and the black stone is not plastic. There are hand tool marks on the settings. WTF did I buy here? There are four of them on the jacket.

I've been cracking up at the stupid idiots that have been selling heirloom diamonds, huge engagement rings accidentally in yard sales. I know I would totally find the rightful owner if I bought something and found a treasure inside. Sometimes even a goodwill workers return treasures they come across. Would any of you keep or return a found treasure? Just for conversation...? It's fun to think about, cuz you never know!

Update: picked up all my film after work y'day. Turned in 11 rolls, 8 came back, 100% developed! Ok, my kids are 27 & 29. In most of these pictures they are really little, they span 3 different houses! Some are from before they even started school, then a couple of pics up thru about ages 9 & 10 maybe. Mostly they are really little and me & dad look very different too! As do the kids friends and relatives. Some of dear loved ones we have since lost, some long ago. It was such a fun time seeing the pics and sharing them with my kids over b'day dinner last night @ Bonefish Grill. So, turn in those old 35mm cans! Surprises are in there!

Good question. My first instinct is to say, return it. BUT, if I was returning it to a business like Salvation Army? Sorry, but, no. I wouldn't. If the individual who lost it put out a public ad, sure, I'd give it back. So, I guess it would depend. Sometimes I see something I know is valuable and people put almost nothing on it at sales. Like McCoy pottery or something. I always tell them. Stealing is just morally wrong. Karma might actually exist.

You can slipcover that chair and it would be so shabby chic! Or paint the wood and redo the cushions, if you want o change it at all. It looks like a waiting room chair to me. Lol. It's in great condition, as is. Throw a cute pillow on it, and it works. It would be cute in a rawhide kinda room, with hides on it and animal heads on the walls, like you see in Yosemite. That could work. Great deal!

Awww, I'm glad your film turned out to be a treasure. That
s good karma.

4:15:00 PM, I thought it looked like an old waiting room chair too. I'm too tired to slip cover anything...or care. Sorry. My house is done in garage sale and kid.

No, if I bought it at Goodwill, I would keep it. Unless I saw it on the news, lost. Cuz, I always think when I turn in stuff, and I always do, that the person I handed it to just keeps it themselves! Lol. If I got it at a yard sale, I would go back. But even then, you don't know for sure if they even owned it either. I'd wait to see if it got posted as lost. Then return it. I would especially not return an item like that to the damn crooked cops in hopes the owner would get it! Cuz they wouldn't! Not in this damn town.

I have a 1/3 ct. 14k gold diamond engagement ring my grandmother gave me. Her daughter in law gave it to her, she didnt like it. She had found it on the sidewalk one day in Texas. gawd, way back in the 70's. I told my daughter she can have it but she only likes white gold. Yellow gold is coming back now, tho. It was huge in the 80's.

Those are giant knuckle buster buttons? What does the label say? Hell, I say google it. Might be black onyx ? String them on something, make a necklace or something. If you decide not to wear the jacket. The buttons are fab! Use them in some way. Good eye girl!

Dirty Disher said...

The label is R Q Te from China. Nothing special. The thread on the buttons doesn't match. I think they've been replaced with something good!

4:26:00 PM seriously??? She'd turn down a diamond because she doesn't like the gold? I'm gonna get the vapors.

Yea, she was a bank president and had what she wanted. A mere 1/3 ct. Diamond wasn't up to snuff, I'm sure. Sadly, tho, she was killed in a boating accident a couple of years later. My uncles big boat got shot across the jetty up into the rocks and she was thrown over into the rocks. A man nearby had a hold of her, when another wave hit and beat her to death before the man could pull her out. My uncle was hurt but survived. The man trying to save her was in agony crying. I think he was their friend or something. My grandmother told me about it. 1977. My year in hell. Long story. 6 immediate family members deaths. One on my b'day. Not a time I like to think about. But that was my aunt and she found that ring and it found me. Now, it's my daughters, when she wants it. That's life.

You're right about those buttons. Because they are kind of out of scale for that jacket. Yep, somebody loved those buttons. There are such things as heirloom buttons too. Those are probably heavier than normal too.

TBH...I never wore the ring either. Isn't that strange? My aunt didnt, My grandmother never did, I didn't, and my daughter doesn't want it. It's just a simple princess setting. It's weird, it got lost or thrown in anger and since then, nobody has wanted to wear it. Hmmm...that's so odd. I never thought of that before. It's kind of a story.

Dirty Disher said...

Sell the ring. Just sell it.

Maybe I just feel sorry for the "unwanted" diamond ring? I never ever Thot of selling it. It's just strange how this ring has me! Lol yet, nobody really wants it. It's beautiful. I should go trade it in for something!! Thanks for the idea. I might need therapy if I do that. Lol. But I will consider it.

Or, you could reset it into something you design. You could take a metal work or jewelry class at a local college and do it yourself. Then it would mean something.

Is there enough material in that jacket to cover the chair?

This is why I love this blog...yard sale finds, grapes, zucchini, Gabe, Lissa, Casey, Guntown happenings, outings with Mom.

Comments, different views/opinions, yet all very interesting.

And, as someone else mentioned...Where's Mary_Mary?

Interesting posts, interesting people.

Pat..Keep on Keeping on.

Yeah, where is Mary??

Mary's feelings got hurted when I called her out on her face lift.

Such is life.

Mary got a face lift? Why? She is so cute. But gawd, did anybody see Barry Manilo this weekend? Wow! He's 70, so who gives a sh** at that age? He got great big cheek implants & tightened up, again. He looks so odd. Performed with gorgeous Neil diamond. Why eff with what you have? More times than not, it's a disaster. I can't help it, I'm stuck with what nature hands me. My motto, stay outta the sun and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!! Do neck exercises, try not to get heavy. That's all free. Botox will eff you up. Big mistake. It looks lumpy and ugly. I don't see Mary's face, but I know she is adorable and shouldn't mess with perfection. And it's a waste of money and is very obvious. IMO.

Oh, that's such a lie. All trolls have to do is lie on people. Prolly jelly of Mary, she's so cute and stylin'. I wish I could afford a face lift and a tit reduction. I'd have it done in a heartbeat. I'd post pics too.

Don't forget the cunt de-lousing and the anal cyst exfoliating.

Dear Pat,
As soon as I saw McCoy pottery mentioned here, I had to write.
LOVE the chair - I would leave it as is, although the suggestions are all very nice; it appears to be Heywood Wakefield, which is a wonderful find!
And yes, I took a powder for awhile, NOT because my feelings were hurt (or "hurted," as the jealous dimwits of the world like to say), but because I wanted my anger to subside. Such is life, right Trolly?
