Mattresses 101 has bed bugs on sale now

I read THIS article today and about puked. A mom in Arizona thought she was getting a good sale deal on two brand spanking new mattresses for her kid's bed. Then she got bedbugs. When the exterminators came to do their (expensive) job, they discovered her 'new' mattresses were actually old used mattresses stuck inside new covers. And they had bed bugs..eww. I know! I about shit my pants too. I didn't even think of that possibility and I suspect all retailers of some shady shit. So, I did a search about it and didn't really find that this kind of fraud is a major problem, but, I did find out something else. The whole mattress industry is full of fraud, scams and big fat lies. HERE is a good one about that, if you want to find out.

I also came across several of the most ridiculous 'green' idiot sites that tell you how to recycle your old crappy mattress. You can use the buttons and material to make cool shirts! You can use the old stuffing to make pillows! Really? Have you ever seen the inside of an old mattress? There is nothing in there you want to recycle, trust me. Two sites actually told me I could take the old mattress out to the kid's jungle gym and use it as a fall break. One site claimed nursery schools would just loooooooooove that donation. Oh, but, be sure and have it cleaned first. Are they fucking nuts? Yeah, let me pay to clean an old mattress before I throw it out in the yard. And how nice would that look in the yard anyway? Oh, gee, Edna, I sure do love your new yard mattress. Holy crap.  I can't even stand some of these green sites, I want to punch them in the head.

BTW, Mattresses 101 finally promised to refund the lady's money and pay $200 towards her exterminator bill, but, she hasn't seen any money yet. What a great store. I'm sure their lines are around the block today.

ps, HERE is the only real heavily used mattress.

there was a mattress seller in my area who just recovered old mattresses and resold them as 'new'....he got found out when a woman's dog ripped through the new covering and discovered a piss stained mattress underneath!!!! so the state shut him down after going through his mattress stock and they ALL were like that...well guess what? he opened ANOTHER mattress store! same shit! i think he did like 3 times before he finally got sent to jail!!!

it's FUCKED how/why places would do such a thing!

Frickin gros no matter how many layers its recovered in! My Dad was a cop and worked in Downtown L.A. off and on. He made many contacts and never said no to anyone who would give the Sgt. a "deal". He dragged home to me and my older sister 2 "new" twin mattresses from a local factory. I swear they smelled like they were stuffed with old oily gasoline rags! I took years before the smell finally dissipated. They were lumpy and hurt our backs. We knew better than to complain to him.

I deleted the troll. They don't like me either, you called that. Stalkers.

The comments on here about the post are freeeeking me out. I'm glad I don't have a mattress. Lis just got a new used one, but, it came from family. They piss me off, but, I'm pretty sure they take baths and don't have bugs. Actually, a junker like me can spot the signs of bed bugs in a hot second. I love used stuff, but, you have to really look at it (and smell it if it's upholstered) and you don't know the seller. I've seen signs of bed bugs on solid wood pieces, it's not just upholstered stuff.

I'd be freaked out buying a new mattress after what I read today. I think I'd have to cut one end open as soon as I got it home and look. Then I'd sew it back up.

when i have to get a new mattress i'll only go buy it from an established place.....that's one help....i know people try to save money, but unless you're getting an used mattress from a family or friend, as you said....you really canNOT take the chance as this is just unfortunately so common....

and can you imagine the conditions the people work in recovering those mattresses?! ::shudder::

Bed bugs can live up to 18 months without feeding. I would think twice before I picked up anything used. I would also thoroughly check the beds in hotels. Bedbug infestations are on the rise. Many huge retailers have had to shut their doors and be fumigated.
People are finding them on airplanes, in movie theaters, everywhere crowds gather.
Because I own a hotel, this subject really freaks me out. I hear of other hotel owners negligence on this subject and it scares the shit out of me.

the paragraph about inner spring is so stupid it tarnishes the rest of the article.
