To Bitch or not to Bitch, that is the question

Katherine Heigl...what can you say about her? In THIS article, they talk about how she once commanded $15 million per movie and now has been reduced to asking fans to fund her next film. And indeed, she is selling off some ridiculously priced stuff for the cause. The film she's trying to hawk is 'Jenny's Wedding' some coming out story. The whole thing makes me wonder exactly what she really did to the big wigs in Hollywood to piss them off enough that someone with her box office appeal can't get backing? And she does have that appeal. She's beautiful and has at least a modicum of talent and a couple of successful chick flicks under her belt. The studios couldn't have sneered at the money they made from 'Knocked Up.'

So what's the deal here? Yeah, she refused an Emmy nomination, talking about integrity, but, doesn't anyone remember Brando turning down an Oscar and sending some Indian to the stage to chastise Hollywood? It didn't stop his fan club. All Heigl did was pull herself out of the running, which is much less. Sure, she gives some insufferable interviews, but, so does Anne Hathaway. And don't even talk to me about Gywneth Paltrow and her bullshit. She's still working and funded.

What I'm asking is, is Heigl so difficult or has she pissed off the boys? Think about it. Every woman who's ever tried to run her own career has been called a bitch who can't be worked with. Men are called shrewd businessmen. Women are just bitches. If you've ever read books by people like Cybill Shepherd and Roseanne Barr, you know that Hollywood doesn't tolerate women who want to run their own careers and take charge of what they do. So, the whole thing makes me wonder if Heigl deserves the rep she has or if she really has a brain in that blond head and the boys can't stand it. I could write all day about this, so I'll stop and you can tell me what you think.

ps, I found another photo of her because the writer is clearly biased and used the worst ones possible.

  1. I like her and I hope it is a case of her standing her ground. I do think she shot to fame really fast and probably needed more time to think of who she really is. I would like to think she pulls through with more knowledge, but I don't know.

  2. I don't know much about her, but if she ever commanded 15 million PER MOVIE, and now she has to ask fans to fund one, she's a financial idiot. If you'd ever gotten you hands on 15 mil, DD, you'd be running a multi-million dollar gardening business by now, AND have funded your own movie.

  4. N, if I had my hands on $15 mil, I would do something predictibly boring. Like pay cash for house and land and set up a fool proof IRA, buy real health insurance and have college funds for my grandkids.
