DEAR ABBY: I have been married almost four years. Recently I had some
medical problems that were my wake-up call. I'm fine now, but I no
longer am willing to wait for "someday."
I decided to try some new
hobbies, one of which is skydiving. I had said for years I'd never do it
because I'm afraid of heights. But I have changed my mind, and for me,
this is a big deal.
When I
asked my husband what he thought, his response was, "I'm not spending
the day just to see you jump out of an airplane." Talk about
disappointing!
I have always
"gone with the flow" when he has wanted to do something. I know he
doesn't want to go skydiving, but all I wanted was his support, and
maybe someone to take a video or pictures.
His
response has left me wondering about a lot of things. I have had enough
of his negativity. He doesn't do anything except stay home. I guess I
expected him to be excited for me, or to say he didn't want me doing it.
The first is what I would have preferred. Now I'm not sure where I go
from here. -- DISAPPOINTED IN SAN DIEGO
Go HERE to read Abby's answer. Basically, she recommends a marriage counselor. She says this isn't about skydiving. Oh, bullshit. It IS about skydiving. He don't want any part of it and she wants to do something daring. She needs to find an adventurous friend and go for it. That's what I did and I never regretted it. It won't cure her fear of heights (it didn't mine), but, it's a great adventure and if you take the class and get good instruction, it's not that dangerous. I was so excited by it, by the time I hit the ground, the first thing I asked was for the pilot to take me up again! And again! You don't need a husband there for that and it shouldn't affect your marriage just because he's not interested in it. He has a right not to be interested in it. Why do some couples always think they have to do everything together anyway?
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!
Crawl out onto the wheel base, hold on to the strut and...JUMP! It's awesome!

1st thing I Thot of was PORN. The man just stays home all the time? Has no hobbies? Oh, he has a hobby alright. Go jump lady, then get a good lawyer and GTFO.
I wouldn't. His hobby wouldn't bother me at all. My ideal mate would be someone who ignored me 90% of the time and let me do whatever I want.
