Growing Up Duggar

I think a better title for this book by the Duggar girls would be 'Growing Up Brainwashed'. But, that's just me. They talk about censoring their thoughts. You see, if you're a Duggar, not only are you NOT going to have sex or even a kiss before marriage, but, it's a sin to even think about it. So, you must learn to control your thoughts, even when you're alone. " 'By censoring our thoughts through the filter of God’s word, we will be able to recant any wrong thoughts or temptations that try to sneak in.' (source)

Wow. What a drag. Reading this book sounds as exciting as shopping for a home perm. However, they do mention dealing with their mother's bullemia and their father's rage problem. Oh, really? That's quite interesting. You wouldn't think ma and pa Duggar would have to deal with such human problems. I want to hear ALL about that. I think things are not the way they are portrayed in the Duggar family. I think there are some awful secrets they hide. I don't expect this book will tackle them head on, but, maybe between the lines? I don't think these girls are allowed to have a real thought, much less reveal them.

I've thought the Duggars were bullshit for a long time. I remember the first time Michelle explained the 'buddy' system. That's where she weans a new baby and passes it off to an older child to raise while she gets ready for the next birth. Most of the girls accept this. One did not. I forget which one, maybe you can remember. But, one of the girls neglected her 'buddy'. That toddler sat in a high chair, forgotten, for hours and was found wandering outside, nearly nude, in the cold. There are some very strange things going on in that Duggar house and I am not talking about the famous 'side hug'. How mad DOES Jim Boob get? Is he frightening? Has he ever hit anyone? How many times a day does Michelle force herself to vomit? Does she do it while pregnant? She's always pregnant. Did her bullemia contribute to that premature birth or the miscarriages? Tweaks my interest. How about you?

That book cover pic looks like an ad for a Wear Denim! campaign. Such s shame they will never be allowed to fully develop or even dream about what they could really become in life. What happens if one of the girls ends up not being able to conceive? Cast out?

I suppose they could be a babysitter for the fertile ones.

He smiles all the time, it's creepy. Sometimes you just can't trust someone who smiles all the time.

They do make good looking kids though. :-)

anyone else think it's odd that the eldest son is the only one so far that has gotten married? I thought they would have married off a few of the girls by now..

The name started with J. Does that help? :)

Lol! The name started with J. You may be struggling with your health, but you have not lost your sense of humor. That caught me by surprise, and I actually did LOL.
I have had a feeling that things were not as presented, but am surprised to hear that bulemia and rage are issues. I'll bet he is scarey when he gets angry. I never would have thought that Michelle was bulemic, either. Interesting. I wonder what else goes one there? I have made a practice of not watching their show, but now I'm sort-of interested.
