Some parents have to ask themselves, pretty early on, do you want a dead daughter or a healthy, happy son? For Ryland's parents, the answer was obvious. The more I learn about this, the more empathy I have for these children born into the wrong body.

Oh, isn't that a coincidence. I just bookmarked this from another site to watch later (after the kids go to bed so I can watch it in peace!)
Wow! What great parents they are. I'm not sure how I would have handled that. I suppose it is something you have to go through to know for sure. I'm glad he's happy.
Susan, that is quite the coincidence. I'm going to look for a better vid of their story. I'm sure there's one out there.
Jane and Mary, I think I would have handled it the same way they did. You just can't change someone inside their head. And yeah, I loved these parents too. What they did wasn't easy, but, they pretty much saved their child. It's awesome. And you can look at Ryland and know, he IS a boy. I've raised a boy and a girls. They're so different, even as todders.
I totally agree, you know who you are at a very young age, I'm so glad these parents are letting their child be who he wants to be. I have an 8 year old son who is all boy. His dad and I joked about "what if," and I always said I would accept him just as he is, and I do. People are not all the same. I have a close friend who's youngest son, who is 6, has feminine traits and tendencies. They say that children develop gender specific roles and traits by age 5. My friend's son is ALL Hello Kitty, Princesses, and Easy Bake Oven and I wouldn't have him any other way :)
That's great that you all accept him the way he is. I just found out that the brain develops in utero separately from the body. That blew my mind and explained a lot.
That kid is a boy. I don't know what went sideways (I don't want to use the word "wrong") between how his body developed differently from his brain but he's IS a boy. He sounds like a boy. He moves like a boy. He looks like a boy. How lucky for him that his parents had the intelligence and love to allow him to be who he was supposed to be.
Yes, he does. I agree with you and I checked out old vid of the Sonny And Cher show and I realized that Chastity was the same way as a tiny tot. That kid was always Chaz, the boy. We just didn't see it then because this stuff wasn't talked about.

O man, would I love to give the entire family one big hug and a round of applause. I LOVE THIS! What awesome parents.

He definitely had a boy face from the start.
And whomever said it is right, he does move and talk like a boy.
