Babies and dogs

Dog steals baby's toy. Baby cries. Dog feels guilty and gives Baby everything.

Dog imitates Baby..or Dog is saying, 'Why, why, why won't you take care of your spawn!"

Awww. . . Sweet doggy. They really are thinking, caring creatures.
Harley continues to amaze us with his responses to the puppy.
Last night he was rolling back and forth gently, on his back, and letting Emma play attack him while he gently pawed at her. The night before, she ran to sit in the vidiot chair, which is one of her favorite spots. She started barking at the little wire brush sitting next to the chair. Harley quietly went over, picked up the squid Kong and took it to her. He nudged her gently with it and dangled the long ends (I believe) in an attempt to distract her. When she didn't respond right away, he squeaked it until she grabbed an end, and then he pulled her away from the brush. We watched all of this happening. I always thought that he was just a big love, but not so smart, but he is just a different smart than I expected.
Animals are just so much more complex and thoughtful than we have been lead to believe. Such a shame, really, when it's really not that hard to get evidence that they think and feel and love and grieve losses.

Well thanks loads for that, Pat. Mike was in a different part of the house entirely when I hit play and immediately I heard the pat pat of his paws on the floor. He arrived here by the computer and added his own marvelous voice to the mix. So I hit pause at about 57 seconds since I feared it might wake the neighbors (it's 12:55 a.m. here). I do love my Mikey.

I am in love with Charlie. He is so smart and wonderful. He really did feel bad. He has his own YouTube channel. I had to subscribe. He's wonderful about that baby. He helps take care of her. I love him. He's a precious, special little guy. xoxo

My 37 y.o. niece had her first baby in February. He was 2 months early. He had to stay in the hospital for a month after he was born. Their dog used to lay on her tummy and guard the baby inside her, listen to it, feel it move, whatever. But it was already attached to it. When she left to have the baby early, and then returned a week later w/o him. The dog knew. And was very upset. Searching the entire house everyday for him. She finally brought home something from the hospital for the dog to smell so he'd know the baby was alive. He still lays next to him, gets up every time they do, at night, to care for him. The dog is basically not sleeping. LOL. Such a wonderful pup. He's an almost 2 y.o. rescued Golden Retriever. Dogs know things we don't understand. And i feel that's why rescued dogs are different than purchased dogs. They really are thankful and appreciate having a home. They love their humans. It becomes their job. Their duty. Their whole existence.
Now, I cannot explain why a pittie turned on it's master's 7 month old baby y'day and killed it. I'm not sure if it was in Indy. The dog will likely be put down. That breed needs special non-stop training and good owners. It's still a breed I wouldn't have. Ceasar loves them and saves them. I think that's why he is so physical with his discipline. Pitties must require that. They are fiercely strong. Sorry, I'm mixing the 2 dog posts together. :)
