Beer Can Alley and the main crew. They're telling Lissa those shorts are too short. That's my deck on the back there. It's going to be painted up soon. That's my stack of shingles waiting to be put on the roof. Next month. I told you this backyard is ugly. I'd have to spend thousands of dollars I don't have to tear out that huge gararge and remove a bunch of huge trees just to have a veg garden back there. I ain't interested. I can plant in the front and sides and make me a girly sittin' area somewhere else. They can have this dirt hole. Happy beer drinkin' guys. Be sure and pee in the alley.
Cousin Bruce, he does a really good Elvis impersonation when he gets drunk. He's Autumn's dad, that little cousin you've seen with Lissa. He lives next door. I'm saving that old door. Joey laughed at that. He thinks I'm goofy. But, it's a good old door! With an old black porcelain knob!
My favorite cousin, Joey, he's telling Lis, 'no, yer shirt doesn't say 'Suzy and the Buttcheeks, ya idiot.' Those two love arguing. Joey is taking chemo right now, so he looks a bit peaked. He's tough as nails though and he's helping me with the house. Gowd, I hate that ginormous metal garage. The boys can have that thing too. There's an old cabin in there though. Wood stove and all. More weirdness.
Michael, the sweetest Guntowner you'll ever meet. We told him he's only half as special ed as he looks here. Hey, it's a joke. He did finally get riled up this week and punched cousin Coat in the face, knocking his glasses into next week. Cousin Coat really IS special ed and he talks shit sometimes. He's been at Michael for months. He'd been warned.
WTF is that??????? We had a citronella candle going, so I can't say the mists are anything (though they look weird and that's too much smoke for a candle, if you ask me) but, what the holy fuck is that thing? There should be nothing but corn back there. Are the legends about this house true? I know it's haunted, but, yawn, every place is haunted. This house has some wild stories about it though and the deed goes back to the 17,00's. This was originally one of the first houses in Iowa. Click these last two pics and take a look. I think we need a cleansing soon, but, I will walk back over tonight and see if anything could explain this. I may be excited over nothing. Aint no use getting myself all upset over something explainable.
Troll, be sure and save these pics, so you can tell DHS I let 40 year old men drink beer in the yard of an unoccupied house. That should sink me for sure.

Your troll is still messaging you? Wow. Too much time on their hands...

I think it might be fun to spend an afternoon drinking in beer can alley. No fighting though. :-)
Those shorts are fine...but that is another aspect of small town living...free advice :)
Are you sure you don't want the garage down? It looks like you'd be gaining a huge amount of space if it were. I bet the crew would help, with proper encouragement (beer).
I thought cousin coat had moved into one of mom's rooms. I guess he didn't last very long there. I remember you talked about Joey before. He was always the helpful one. I hope he is doing well with his chemo. Is he as young as he looks? I see they do some BBQing there. They could stay there forever as long as I get some of the BBQ.
What IS that thing? -- under the full moon...
I love that door! Black porcelain knobs- I never see that. I love those! I'd pee myself over that alone.
Cut, I went back over tonight and tried to explain it. I could not. There's nothing that could have made that image there. I took more pics in the same spot..nothing. Interesting. I do like a mystery.
Noelle, come on over. You probably know these guys anyhow.
Angie, the shorts are too short. I'm tossing them when she isn't looking. We go through this ho-clothes phase every time she spends the night with her teenage aunt. Once in a while something slips past me. Like these shorts. Once is enough. Her aunt is adorable and I like her, but, she's 14. Lis is 10 and neither of them understands this. They can wear each other's clothes too, her aunt is tiny and Liss isn't. Plus, they love to thrift store with step grandma, who's really good to Lissa, but, lets her buy anything.
Jane, yeah, Coat lives with my mom. He gets along fine there, mom loves to boss him and he needs a mama, because he's not right in the head. He's child like. But, he can't walk around Guntown mouthing off for months. It gets irritating.
Joey is in his 40's, he does look young. He's actually pretty cute and women like him. They chase him all the time, but, he likes being a bachelor. He's straight, but, I don't think he'll ever get married.
Oh, and Angie, that stinking garage could be demolished, but, the trees are huge. Too much shade back there. Besides the guys fire up the wood stove and drink beer in there in the winter. They all live with family (most people around her do) and they aren't allowed to drink beer at home. Wouldn't it suck to be that old and not be able to bring beer in your own house? So, like, where else can they go? They don't hang out at the bars, they aren't the tavern types. When they aren't in BCA, they're fishin'. I do expect some fresh fish.
..and they're always moving things for me. They're handy.
Do you have a problem finding shorts that are a longer length? I know I always did when my girls were younger. They needed to be as long as the tips of their fingers when their arms are at their sides. It was really difficult, unless they were willing to wear boy's athletic shorts. It sucks when trends are so specific and all-encompassing.
I get your point about the garage. You might have the perfect situation, if they provide labor and free fish. Sounds like they would be respectful of your place, so why not? You could screen it pretty fast, with the way things grow around there. Speaking of, have you looked at the soil? I know here, you can walk ten feet and go from black dirt to clay...maddening.
I think that's a great spot. Help for heavy lifting will never be far off as long as the "alley" stays intact. What a great way to maintain good will, too. . . leaving them to congregate there. You can probably do whatever you want with plantings around the area to make it look better, as long as it's not too girly. The vines idea is good.
Very interesting and weird that there is a cabin inside that structure. There must be a story behind that.
I think the shorts are too short, too. I wore shorts (hot pants) similar to that when I was in junior high. They were too short then, too.
I wonder what that weird light thing is in that picture? I've never seen anything like it before. Something deciding to show itself to you. You don't feel anything bad about the place, I'm sure, or you wouldn't have bought it. Wonder if it's an outdoor spirit of some kind, or whatever?
Christina
I know nothing, but....I can't explain it. Just that this place feels safer than your old place, even though it's on the same street. I guess it's because of the good 'ol boys hanging out. I like that and that they are so willing to help when you need.
I would like to see how the old preacher stalking you from his car will play out with them.
(sorry, Pat, that still bothers me.)
Ha! 'Suzy and the Buttcheeks.' That had me laughing out loud here at the studio.
I still listen to Juju; one of my fave albums. Siouxsie was and still remains an icon and hero to me. x0
Beer can alley reminds me of the days back in Ecuador when we would gather by our doors and just drink beer and hang out in the weekends. The guys would do it after a soccer match in the neighborhood on sundays. You do feel protected when they are there. And they do protect you.
Angie, I do have problems finding shorts. She won't wear denim, but, she does love boy's shorts. She's been dressing like a boy for two weeks. It's way better then the hot pants phase. She even likes wearing boys swim trunks as shorts.
Mary, I should send that shirt to you. It's an original. I pick them up here and there for a buck or less. She also has vintage Blondie, Clapton, Hendricks and more. The Blues Traveler one is really pretty. She has no idea they're actually worth something. I did make a find for you the other day. It's gonna be a surprise!
Cut, I hope your feeling is right. I know this for sure, I gave her a folded paper yeserday and told her if she needed help and I wasn't around (can't imagine why, but, whatever) the names of people she could trust 100% were on it. She opened it and it said, 'Joey'. That's it. That's all she needs to know. I'm sure everyone else out there is good, I've known them all their lives, but, 100%? Joey.
In fact, I told him while he's fixing that laundry room, he's welcome to build a room on to it and live there. He's a nomad who like his privacy. So, we'll see. He liked the idea though. Since there's already plumbing there, he could even add a bathhoom pretty easily.
That would be a great place for him, wouldn't it? Right there next to beer can alley. I hope he goes for it, since he is someone you trust 100%.
I hope he does well with his chemo, too.
Christina
I think he'll beat it. He's had one surgery on his stomach (it's stomach cancer) and they want him to have another. He doesn't like being cut, but, has agreed to take the chemo. I trying to convince him on the surgery. He's real stubborn though. I know I could live with him, he's quiet, private, intelligent, open minded, not a hater and not religious at all. He's more interested in the ways of the Shaman. We're Cherokee, in case you can't tell. I'm the only one who's blond.
That little deck is cute. I'd like to straighten up that old door, put glass back in it, paint it all...then get me a cute wringer washer to sit there. I'd use it in Summer for rugs and such.
Yes, those vintage tees are worth the big bucks, but there is no value on a collection of shirts that cool. And such a deal! I love when treasure is discovered for under a buck!
