Children of the Corn

Maybe it's an Iowa thing, I don't know, but, it's tradition to sit around telling kids about the Corn Monster, Corn Sasquatch, the homicidal maniac who hides in the corn with a corn knife and of course, my personal fav, Children of the Corn, who look for recruits. Then, you send the kids into a dark Corn field and proceed to scare the pants off them. As I walked up, I heard Autumn whisper, 'let's be evil.' She's a weird kid when she wants to be. She stares and growls. I liked her evil-ness in the first photo. Lissa's 'evil' just looks crazy.
I wanted one photo of them walking through the corn, their backs, in their pretty dresses. I had visions of doing something artsy-fartsy in programs. The little shits would not stop posing and hamming it up. This is the best I got. They never do anything I ask them to. We scared them good though.

'Joey, Joey, we're scared! Save us!' He asked them what he could do to help them recover? They talked it over and decided that if he let them dig in his van for change and keep it all, it would make them better. Awesome. It kept them busy for another hour.

Someone hauled in a swing set. OMG, I finally got rid of that swing set here that's been in my face for years and then I walk over to the new house and find this thing. No one will cop to it. This is Guntown, you never know what you'll find. That thing is history. We can make some rope swings in all those huge trees. Besides, they put this too close to where we sit. I can hear every Kesha lyric they constantly sing. Trust me, they aren't that talented. Simon Cowell is not waiting for these two.

Earlier, the girls went fishing with Bruce and Joey and learned to cast. They said Lissa got very good at casting and wanted to fish alone because she was serious about it. They all caught fish, but, just small ones. I forget what kind that big one is, but, it's bony and has less fillet on it than the bulls. Autumn was thrilled to gut the fish in front of me and gross me out (it didn't, but, I let her think it did). She kept giggling and saying 'Cut it, Dad, cut it's head right off!' She scares me a little sometimes. Lissa didn't want to watch. She kept thinking of her goldfish.

Later in the afternoon, they came up with another $ scheme. A nail painting business. $2 dollars for nails, $2 dollars for toes or $4 dollars for both. How is that a bargain? Anyway, I told them they could do it and they sat out there on the street until dark. Kayden came over and helped with signs and became the PR man. I would have let them paint mine, but, I just did new French tips. And orange toes.

But, wait...what is that?? That is MY nail polish. I never told them they could take MY stuff outside. I like those hat boxes. I'll bet you anything they're still out there and it's fixing to rain. I'll finish this post and go get them. It's annoying, but, not worth an argument. The kids had a big day and night and it was true Iowa Summer fun. Autumn is still here, sleeping, but, Lis and I had to get up early for a pre-court social worker meeting. Her mom was supposed to be here too, but, she didn't show. We have custody court in the morning. I'm already 99% sure that Lis will stay here for good this time. You never know though. DHS is weird. But, this time, it's up to a judge who has no tolerance for nonsense. I guess he can't stand repeat offenders. So, we'll see.

Send us some positive energy. I gotta go save my poor hat boxes.

Good luck Pat, I hope the judge isn't a twat & make the right decision once & for all to leave her with you. She needs the stability & you need the headache to stop.

I love it when you post your goings-on!
The children of the corn shots are so funny! You can tell they are having a great time, and what cute sundresses! I am snake-phobic (I'm sure there is a specific phobia name for it, but I'm too lazy to look it up), and looking at those corn pictures, I keep wondering if there are a lot of snakes out there? If I said that in front of my husband, he would say "Yeah. All of 'em." It's one of our standing jokes that never fails to crack both of us up. Hilarious that digging through Joey's van for change would make them less scared of the corn monster, etc. Now that is comedy.
I think that little Lissa, with her schemes of yard sales and painting nails, etc., is going to do well in life. She is a thinker, and resourceful, and will make her way in the world without any major hitches. Funny that they just automatically got all your polish to work with. You have some very pretty colors there, and the hat boxes are exactly the type of prints I look for when looking at storage boxes.
Very cool that Lissa was into fishing once she got a taste of it. You gotta love a hobby that can produce something you can use (fishing, hunting, food preservation, etc.)
We've never told any scarey tales to Andy, though he probably heard some in scouting when he was very young. I think Sasquatches just might be real, though. Enough eyewitnesses and stories of encounters. Why wouldn't there be a big primate (other than humans) in North America? We live next to a cemetery, which borders on a canyon that is largely uninhabited. When I am out taking care of the ducks, at night, I have heard a whistle from a dark area of the cemetery, that was totally out of place. Made my hair stand on end, and I got out of there in a hurry. I also heard a vocalization less than a week ago. It sounded similar to what I hear on Finding Bigfoot. I have never seen anything, but I know there were sightings in Colton some years ago. I guess what I am saying, is that if I told scarey stories about Sasquatch, it is very likely that I would be the one that needs comforting.
Sending good energy for Lissa staying with you, and having a real home.

good for the girls that they learn that if you want to eat a fish you have to kill it first.

And that killing a fish to eat it, is worth it.

I hope all went well with the hearing. It looks like you are all enjoying this summer. It's nice seeing you doing "basic" things with the kids. Swimming, fishing, arts and crafts....what more does a kid need? I miss those days with my kids. Day trips to the beach. Story time at the library. Days at the pool. Picnics at the playground. Hikes through the woods/parks. Board games, card games, stargazing. All at no/low cost. Hopefully we'll get a chance to experience all again with the grandkids. Lucy

Thank you, Bubbles.

MJ, thanks you too.

Christina, snakes come out in the day. You might find a stray out at night who's hungry, but, they can't regulate their body temp, so they like the sun. It's been cool here at night. Yeah, Lissa is a go getter, all right. She dreams of making money and buying a mansion big enough for the entire family.

I think Bigfoot is real too. I watch those documentaries and I have my own personal reasons for thinking BF is real. Thanks for commenting!

Jane, I got sick so the camp trip is resdceduled. I was so mad that I didn't get to go.

Tricia, thanks!

Bastard, Thanks, fish and release never made much sense to me.

Lucy, I think these are the things we remember from childhood. Thanks for the thoughts.
