Most confusing story of the week
SOURCE
A Thai woman is claiming she was a surrogate for an Australian couple, but, when they found out one of the twins she carried for them had Down's Syndrome they took his sister, but, abandoned him. The surrogate kept him, but, now he's sick and I guess she wants the couple to help with his medical care. She loves the baby and wants to keep him though.
The couple has been tracked down, but, claim they had no knowledge that this baby boy existed, they were only told about the girl. The father also claims this is not the woman they hired to carry their baby. What the hell is going on here? The agency they made the deal through had been closed and no longer exists.
Now, reporters have found out the father was convicted in 1998 for indecent sexual acts with a 13 year old girl. He did time for it. His wife confirmed it but said he was a good man. WTF? The surrogate said when the twins were born he came to see them, but, only bought milk for the girl. He never looked at the boy.
I can't figure this one out. They way the story reads, the surrogate is no biological relation to baby Gammy, the boy she kept. Why wouldn't a surrogate tell the parents there were twins? If the parents decided his handicap was too much for them, wouldn't they take him home and put him up for proper adoption, making sure he was safe? Someone would have adopted him in a heartbeat, he's very sweet and Down's is not that intimidating anymore. Who's telling the truth here? What should happen?

I read that it is illegal for Thai women to be hired as surrogates, and if they perform the service, no money can change hands. (If I understood it correctly.) The Thai lady supposedly said that she did it for hire anyway because she has two other children, and saw it as a way to pay bills and send them to college.
If the man has this background, did he know there was a boy, but was only interested in the girl, for grooming purposes? I don't get it.
The little guy is very cute. If the biological parents don't want him, I would think the surrogate mom would keep him, since she seems attached.
Down's kids often have cardiac issues. That may be what he needs treatment or surgery for, but I don't really know much about it.

Has it been confirmed that the child is genetically related to the Australian couple?
DNA should answer the regular questions. The irregular questions dealing with the use of surrogates in the first place, and a woman knowing her man is a sex offender but going to all this trouble to have a girl baby are unanswered and wrong, all the way around.
The babies are genetically related to both parents. The mother is too old to carry babies. But then again, why did she still have eggs? Anyway the Australian Embassy in Thailand is constantly dealing with couples trying to fob off one twin because "they only ordered one". Also they a have tried to get rid of sick babies too. So this is not a one off, except that this baby was abandoned. The father is a convicted sex offender. Payment for surrogacy is not illegal in Thailand but apparently the junta in Thailand have now moved to abolish it, as well as genetic selection. It's a shame that the same rigorous checks aren't in place for IVF babies as there is for adopted kids. This has just reduced IVF to baby trading. It's really raging on the news here right now.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention, he was convicted for molesting three girls.

The child is the genetic baby of the australian couple but the "mother" is of asian origin being a mail order wife from china.

I did read about this. But I got the impression they just didn't want him. In fact. The article I read, said nothing about twins. Just that the surrogate baby wasn't wanted by the parents. He's quite obviously a white child with Asian heritage as well. So, could it be her own baby? With a white man? That's crazy. Well, she should just go to Mexico, walk across the border with him. Then they will be set for life. And she will never have to work again. And his medical needs will be somewhat cared for.

OMG! Sorry. But with the comments being moderated. We do tend to step on each others words. My apologies. But I didn't see anybody's comments past the 1st 2 when I just commented. Makes sense now. Thx all.

It also see that the aussie father is a nonce with conviction for sexual abuse to young girls. The thai surrogate has no genetic link to the twins.

It's okay, Rox. It happens to me to.
Y'all ask the same questions I had. It's creepy.
Lia thanks for the homework you did. So, the kid is the couple's bio child. I didn't think he looked Asian, his eye look typical of Down's.
I wondered about the twin problem with IVS in other country, it was alluded to, but, not explained. All this mess will hurt good people seeking IVF. You wait and see. Crazy people always mess it up for everyone else. Who in the sam hell wouldn't take their own baby home??! It boggles the mind. You deliberatly make a child and then reject it. How fucked up. Even with a birth kid, you get what you get.
AND, why didn't the agency who approved the IVF check the father's background?? No one should have helped him get a baby girl. Is his wife nuts?
I bet he would have taken a Downs baby girl tho. That baby needs to be monitored at the very least, if not removed from his home. He should have no contact with any children. He will be raping that child. If not as a baby, then soon. Gawd almighty. OMG. I am going to be sick.

It looks like the surrogate has Down's too. Yikes!
Maybe that's why things weren't mentioned to the couple. Weird, weird situation
