Mother outraged because she can't get a disabled seat on the bus

HERE is the story.  This mom was 'outraged' and in tears because all the pull down disabled seats on the bus were taken up by old people. They wouldn't move for her and told her to sit on the floor and hold her kid. She claims he can't sit on her lap. Hmm. She ended up leaving him in his stroller thing and hanging onto it while she sat on the floor. Oh, the outrage.

Yeah, her kid is disabled, but, the problem here seemed to be that SHE couldn't find a seat. Too bad for her. She's young and strong, she can stand or sit on the floor. No one owes anyone else their seat on the bus. Old people have to sit sometimes, they just can't do what young people can. If the child hadn't been in his chair, it would have been different, but, where does she get off thinking she can demand some old person's seat when they were there first?

I get tired of the handicapped bullshit here too. All the parking spaces, ALL of them, close to the grocery store are handicapped spaces. In all my years I have never seen more than one of them being used. We don't even have that many handicapped people in this town. So, there are all these empty spaces that I really need to use, 'specially when I'm hauling old people, and can't. It's crazy. Did some law require the store to do this? It's just stupid and beyond common sense. And so is that mother's 'outrage'.

Hi DD: Here in Ontario you apply for a handicapped sticker from your Dr. Here in Northern Ontario you' re lucky if you can find one of those parking spaces.....especially after noon!!!! Marilyn

I love women's parking spaces. Especially the variant that is a bit wider.

Nothing says 'women are too dumb to drive' like those things.

And even better - rapists and creeps now know where to wait for their victims. I call that win-win.

Here they're always sitting empty.

Just my opinion, but I think you really should apply for a handicapped sticker or card. With the physical difficulties that you have had, and having to haul those old biddies around, you should qualify before a lot of other people.
Have you ever asked your doctor or the DMV about this? You might be able to find out what you would need to get one, online.
My husband has one because of his injuries to both feet. It wasn't difficult to get because our doctor was very familiar with his injuries and the aftermath.
About half the time all the spots are taken around here. My husband often doesn't use his tag if there is reasonably close parking, but I'm glad he has one.
I think you're right about that woman wanting a space for herself. I understand she wanted to sit with her child, but if she is able-bodied, and the spots are all taken by other people who need them, I see no reason why she shouldn't stand. It would be a different story if her son had to sit on her lap, but this isn't the case. Lot of drama and entitlement over nothing. I think it would have been awful if an old person had to get up so she could sit.

I have a placard in my car for when I have a hard time moving around from the lupus. It's a life saver. Christina is right, you should ask your physician for an application, once you get it signed by your doctor they give it to you at the DMV the same day..
