I don't get all the hate for Lana Del Rey's seafoam retro look at The Golden Globes. I'm not a Lana fan, I don't care about her either way. I have listened carefully to some of her music, hoping to understand what her fans see in it. Nope, still don't know, because her music is very generic and unique at the same time. That's weird. Oh, and unique doesn't always mean good to me. If my brain can't figure out which box to put something in, it's unique. Yet, her singing is so damn pedestrian, I was sure I had heard it all before in some old movie. Maybe I had, who knows? Anyhow, fuck her music, look at the gown. I was going to type 'dress', but, this is what I think of as a gown. Click the pic to see it closer and better. A gown, to me, is an evening dress, but, a sophisticated one. Maybe I just have sucky taste, but, I like this gown.
I have no clue if this is a copied retro look or a vintage. I haven't been interested enough to go find out. I'm just interested enough to look at pics today. And, man, all the sites and photos today are nothing, but, Golden Globe stuff. Anyhow, no, it's not my favorite color either, but, it flatters her skin and hair. If something does that, or I feel like it does, I will wear it, no matter the color. Seafoam has always meant bridesmaid or gay man to me. ~shrugs~ I love the lines and how it makes her look curvier. Nice. It didn't get too wrinkled either, which this type of material seems to do most of the time. Some of the wrinkled dresses this year made me wonder WTF designers were thinking? Aren't they supposed to understand the material they use? Why the fuck would you make something that looks like a wadded up snot rag after a short limo ride? Goofballs.
Anyway, I love the waistline of this dress, and how the material seems to 'sun ray' out from the middle and then pour into subtle pleats in the skirt. Some sites say she looks like a vintage sea shell in it. I am so confounded as to why that's an insult? Sounds cool to me. The bow at the waist, really is more reminiscent of real vintage than it would be without it because as much as I love vintage, the designers back then thought more was good. Less is more was never a thought, let alone a rule. I love old Hollywood, I love like, Jean Harlow and Veronica Lake and others of that time. I always get fascinated by the way they dressed in old black and white movies. You can only guess the color, but, the lines and details get you. That pulled in pleated halter look was always used to depict fancy parties or good girl gone bad lounge singers. Lana looks hot, is all I'm saying. I hate it when people tear a chick's look all to pieces because they don't like her. I understand Lana gets on a lot of people's nerves, but, give me a break with the 'this is the worst dress and look of the night' shit. There was a crap-ton of ugly, weird, unfattering, ill fitting SHIT at the G.G. Lana Del Ray didn't deserve to even be in the shit category, let alone win it. I wish I could find a pic of her shoes. I'm just curious as to what shoe she wore with this. It should have (in my head) been high heeled and strappy, but, not delicate. They should be a little chunky, platformy and have wide straps to make the look more retro. Maybe in...silver? Sound right?
Here's how I know some of the websites are a bunch of hypocrites. Lana got worst dressed nominations, while on the same site, Jessica Chastain's look was called nearly flawless. Put a bow on it and change the color and isn't that the same damn dress Lana had on? Sorry, I like Lana's better. I hate that brown. I usually like browns, but, not this shiny thing. This seems boring to me. I hate halters, they are so uncomfortable. You have to watch your posture all night, or you just know at least one of your tits will fall out. Or worse, there is a chance of that awful side book being photographed. You big titted gals on here know what I mean. I'd never wear one unless it was really fun. So, bring on the bows and bridesmaid colors. It's one night, who gives a shit?
PS..if it was good enough for Marilyn, it's good enough for me.

Awwww, she looks like the prom queen scarecrow from your garden several years back.
I don't get some of these people. They are so busy trying to stand out that they forget about good taste. There were some pretty red dresses.
What did you think of Gearge Clooney's comment about his wife? I don't think it was something that needed to be said at the G.G. I don't know why, it just seemed off to me.
I don't mind the dress, I think their issue is the 1980 color. Any dress that is cut down to there is a risky proposition, I don't care what your cup size is.
On the red carpet, Clooney's wife appeared to be more interested in who might be looking at her or who might be talking to her. The Daily Mail made a point of busting her on her disinterest in the presentation of the lifetime achievement award, which I actually noticed myself. I thought it was kind of tacky, given the circumstance. If she's his wife for real, she should still be in the starry eyed stage and if she's just a "beard", as it's been suggested, she should be a better actress.
LMAO! I never even thought about that scarecrow! But, that was a horrible 80's prom dress. In real, it was so hideous I thought only a scarecrow would wear it.
What'd George say? I didn't watch. I played my guitar last night instead of being online or tv. Mastered Roadhouse Blues and Cocaine (she don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, Cocaine.) Oh, and that danged Venus song they use in that commercial for women's shaving cream. That turned out to be a super fun song and a bit of a challenge.
Angie, I saw a short clip of them, still don't know what George said about her, but, I was shocked at how good she looks on film. In photos, she looks so average. She was beautiful. I dunno, man, she's a lawyer and he's an actor. Could be she just doesn't give two fucks about the awards and won't act like she does. Maybe he likes that about her. I just don't get gay vibes from him in any way. I could be wrong though. I AM the chick that married an in the closet dude and just thought I was imagining things.
The dress? Marilyn did it better. George Clooney gay? He is too much of a human rights activist to hide in the closet. People hate his wife cause she's hot, intelligent, a human rights worker and married to George Clooney. Women with all those assets attract a lot of haters. As did Angelina Jolie until she had her double mastectomy, which then made her an object of pity. Mrs Clooney has taken her place.
DD, if you look up George Clooney's G.G. speech, there is a video. I would send it to you but my tech abilities make me look like a moron.
Basically he was taking the limelight off of himself and putting on his wife. She is an amazing women, but to me, it was not the time or place for such a speech. It was HIS lifetime award. The speech was more like something he should have said at his wedding reception.
And as for Clooney being gay, like you I am not one to judge. I went out with my guy for 3 yrs. before I figured it out. And I only "figured it out" when my 2 gay friends brought me to a gay bar and guess who was there. Yes, I was a little (lot) dense back then. But damn, he was so good looking and built!
