Stevie, on younger or older men..“What if I fall in love with somebody and they die?” And she doesn’t hold out much hope for guys her age. “They wanna go out with somebody that’s 25. That has been going on since the Bible, and I haven’t even read the Bible, but I know that. So what am I gonna do, compete with that? I’m not a competitor. So I don’t even wanna be in that situation.” So, in short, “I’ve narrowed it down to nobody,” she says, and laughs hard.

I have a love/hate in my head relationship with Stevie Nicks. I was never that into Fleetwood Mac, but, my roommate Shirl was. She had that shit blasting every time it was her turn to pick the house music. So, I know all their tunes, by heart. I just never really thought about the meanings until much later. Stevie wrote a shit load of their most famous songs. When Buckingham wrote, the songs had clear, to the point, lyrics (stupid ones, but, clear). When Christie McVie wrote, they were also clear, but, much different. She wrote happy stuff like 'You Make Lovin' Fun'. I love Christine, by the way, love her solo stuff. Anyway, Stevie is one hell of a song writer and I really got into her lyrics just recently. She writes spooky, witchy stuff, but, it's so vague. (I love spooky, witchy and vague.) But, you can look stuff up now and get answers because this chick has been interviewed so many times, it's ridiculous.
But, Stevie contradicts herself constantly. She gets attention for talking about her drug addiction and her sex life. But, she forgets what she tells one interviewer and tells another one a different story. Like, she says when she had an affair with married Mick Fleetwood (the drummer), they were in love. They loved each other so much, they just had to be together. In another story, they just had meaningless sex because they were the last two left at a coke party. So, which is it, Stevie? As for narrowing down her love life to 'nobody', that's an untruth. Stevie's always fucking somebody. She's talked too much about that for me to believe she's alone. She just never has wanted a husband. She's career focused. The one brief marriage she had was one weird story. You can look that up, it's bizarre.
You know me, once I get on something, I can't stop until I've gotten to the bottom of it. I watched every video with Stevie Nicks on You Tube, and there are many, many of them. It took weeks. But, the conclusion I came to is, that she's, in reality, a boring person who tells tales. A true bull shitter and an egomaniac. That whole 'witchy' image was a fake persona she came up with on stage. Mick talked about the progression of that fake image in an interview. Stevie never contradicted him, on that. But, she does have a real gift for song writing. She's right up there with all the best and while her voice is not what you'd call beautiful, she does know what she can sing best and goes there fully onstage. HERE is one of her best performances, if you go to the 4:00 min mark and watch her, she loses herself in her music (it's also one of the few FM vids where Lindsay Fuckingham isn't jumping around like a wired up idiot). What's fascinating to me is, she didn't do that all the time, it's spontaneous and the band just goes with it and follows her. Good close ups of Mick too. My favorite Stevie songs are 'Sisters Of The Moon' and 'Stand Back'. Oh, and Gypsy, Gold Dust Woman and Storm have to be mentioned. I guess I am a late arriving fan of her music, but, I just don't like her very much. Isn't that strange? Oh, and she was super hot when she teamed up with Tom Petty. HERE. Talk about chemistry. Wow. (He's super hot too, love him.) Little sister, my ass, Tom, don't play me. They're still close to this day. I also love that you can now track them both, still singing together. HERE they are, doing the same Petty song, much younger. It made me laugh that as she got older, she became even more egotistical, notice how she gives HIS band queues in that first one. Like, she's the boss. Tom should have smacked her with his guitar neck...accidentally. Cough. But, goddamn, she IS awesome on stage.
But, Stevie doesn't look like that cover now. She's still writing and performing and I love what she's done, but, why isn't it okay with Rolling Stone that she looks her age? I thought that was an old cover, when I realized it was new, I laughed. Stevie is 66 years old now. Why do they do that shit to women? They sure wouldn't do it to Keith Richards. Why do women have to pretend they're 30 when they're twice that? Piss on that.
The real older Stevie still looks good enough for me. It's amazing that she's still going and always writing new stuff now. I don't need to see every line and chin rubbed out to appreciate her music. If men do, then that's their problem. They can go listen to Taylor fucking Swift.
If you click the source up there and go read the part of the interview where she talks about dating a younger guy in the nineties, you'll see why I don't like her. She's a snotty twat and a big yawn. Same old, same old, shit. She still hasn't made up with Buckingham. What a shocker. Yawn. Going on 50 years with that old dead story.
Adding additional crap in my head..I love that you can now find the progression of her writing. Compare the demo of 'Starshine' with the finished product, HERE. It's clear that she needed Mick and Lindsey. (That's not them playing, but, you know what I mean.) But, SHE was the essence of that band, the true writer. Interesting, isn't it? You can find tons of her unreleased songs and demos on You Tube. HERE is where she played 'Beauty And The Beast' for the first time. It's a rehearsal, I guess. It's Stevie talking a bunch of drugged up shit about what a genius she is and then she finally does her song and can't remember the chords. Which are pretty simple actually. But, it's sad that she's right about the genius part, but, only in the song writing area. Just the real Stevie will put me right to sleep. It's like she's two people, very separate. Weird.

Love Love Fleetwood Mac. End of story. But their show tix are astronomical. I guess because they are so rare. I would SO go see them if I was wealthy.
I declined to go when they played in Omaha in the 70's. I wish Shirl had made me go then. Maybe I would have got it. It took me so long, but, I agree, they are phenomenal. But, Stevie really is the base of their band. You just can't deny that.
PS, I think tickets back then cost about $30 bucks. What a dope I was.
I think Fleetwood Mac passed through here recently - and I think my sister went. I'll have to remember to ask her about that. There have been alot of Stevie interview specials on recently - even on that Oprah channel. Very open about her drug use and the very early days of she and Lindsay. He sounded like a big immature possessive baby.
I saw her once in the mid 90's. At a Heart concert - she came on stage to sing with them. All I remember is that she was a little figure in black with a huge head of tumbleweed like hair. Incredible voice.
I envy that you saw her live. Ahh, yeah, her and Lindsey, gawd, I am so sick of hearing about that old love gone wrong shit. I just added it into the post before I read your comment. It's been nearly 50 fucking years of them fighting. Get over it. Jesus, and that whole band fucked each other. And anyone else even slightly interesting. Hell, 'You Make Lovin' Fun' was written when Christie was heated up over some stage hand.
She DOES have an incredible voice, but, she sounds like a goat too. I can't explain it.
Ps..Heart, OMG, live. Those sisters were Juilliard trained professionals. They blow me away. Their stuff is so technical and difficult to play. A real challenge, that I have not mastered yet. But, I keep trying. I love them. They have beautiful voices too.
Stevie's music is SO easy to play, like one take and you have it. But, I still love her. I think she might be my favorite song writer. As for her drug use? She needs to stop with the Klonopin warnings. "It's the worst, most addictive drug, ever". Maybe for her. I've been on it awhile, it controls seizures. If I forget to refill, I couldn't care less. I've gone nearly a week without it, with no withdraw symptoms. It's only when I start mini seizing again that I even remember it. And I sure as hell never get any kind of high from it. (Or I WOULD remember to fill it.)
I love Fleetwood Mac and I do love me some Stevie Nicks. I saw them in concert a few years back, without Christine. Still very awesome, still playing up that whole Stevie/Lindsey- do they/don't they- thing onstage. I read the book "Storms" by Carol Harris. Very interesting. I think Lindsey and Stevie were together young and she outgrew him as their fame grew. I think he was a dick to her afterwards and she just wanted to move on and party, bang whoever she wanted, do whatever she wanted and he was jealous because of that, but also because he was used to be the one with the recognized talent and she broke out in a big way and became the face of the Mac.
My daughter's friend delivered pizzas as a summer job and once delivered to a lake house that Stevie was at. He said she was incredibly rude and dismissive and insistent upon his discretion regarding the location of the house and her being there. The tip wasn't anything too special, so of course, he had no problem relaying the story. The funny part was the friends he told couldn't give two shits about Stevie Nicks.
Angie, you nailed it. That's exactly what I think too. Exactly. He was such a pissy baby and still is. And yeah, they play it up still onstage, like any of us give a shit now. I don't like Lindsey because he got to be too much of a coke head and hot dog and took over the stage. He often played right over Stevie. Like he was the one and only onstage. And watching him solo is cool for five or ten minutes, but, 30 minutes of him jumping like a retarded rabbit with a guitar, just bores me to tears. I don't like his writing either. It just doesn't touch me at all.
And I love the pizza story. She can be a real asshole, that's why I don't understand how she writes such great songs.

Sally, just give me the vid title on there and I can get it easier. Are you talking about Rikie Lee Jones? Chuckie's In Love? That's hilarious.
Or Juice Newton? She was a pip too. I'm confused.
Hot is not a word I'd ever use to describe Tom Petty. Unless he was literally on fire. I was never a Fleetwood Mac follower. My bestie loved them though. "Tusk" is funny.
You don't like Tom? I think he's awesome. And Tusk was mostly that hot dog Lindsey Buckinghams 'experimental' shit. His shit was whiny baby. I couldn't stand it. Stevie had a couple of good ones on there though. And he 'let' Christine play some guitar. Nice of him. Snort.
