This sweet dog was abandoned at a train station in the UK. Do you think the wind was blowing and he has sensitive eyes? That's what people who like to rationalize everything and haven't really known a dog would think. I think he watched his people tie him there, in a strange scary place and climb into a taxi and leave. I think he knew they were not coming back and he was scared and heartbroken, because even though they never treated him right, they were the only family he had and he loved them very much. He probably tried his best to be a good dog, but, a good dog was not what they wanted.
They wanted a bad dog. His tail isn't docked and his nails need trimming, that tells me they spent no money on grooming or medical attention. He's probably never even been wormed or vaccinated. I'd bet on that. He's obviously never been neutered. Why wouldn't you neuter a dog? It can't be because he was going to be used for breeding, you can see he's a mix and not suitable for breeding. He looks like he might be part Mastiff. That cross breed is popular with dog fighters now. They think the combined traits make them more dangerous. The only other reason not to neuter is a sad one. Dog fighters don't neuter because the Testosterone makes the dog more aggressive. Once in awhile, no matter how many times they beat a dog or starve them, that certain dog just has no constitution for fighting. Peace, not war.
Assholes walked by this crying dog all day until finally someone called authorities. They picked him up with no trouble. He must have been scared of these strangers with ropes and uniforms, but, he understood it was a possible chance at being safe again. He also might have thought they were there to end his life. Because if his own family didn't love him, then he must be a very bad dog. He took the chance and let them help him. They took him to a no kill shelter where he will be re-homed. He doesn't know any of that. All he knows is, he now lives alone in a small cage. Grateful for food, water and shelter, he has resigned himself to the small cold space and the isolation. He probably wonders what he did to get sent to prison for life. He probably sleeps a lot to escape the monotony and loneliness. He hears other dogs barking and growling from boredom and anger. He can't see them, but, he's afraid of them. He hopes that no human will come one night and bring one of the angry dogs into his space and demand that they fight. He knows that's a real possibility. So, this is it. He still dreams about his family, those are sad dreams. He may be healthy now and well fed, but, his heart is broken.
He is a broken animal, broken by people with no heart. He will find his real family, the ones who adopt him. If they're patient, he will learn to trust and love again and probably be the best dog they ever had. I think one of the cruelest things these abandoners do, besides the terrible frightening nothingness they leave a dependent animal in, is, they even take away the dog's name. You think that' no big deal? Well, it is. Suddenly you have no name to respond to. Someone you don't even know starts calling you another name and you don't know what to do. Do they mean you? Should you respond or will they kick you for being stupid? Constant uncertainty and fear...and hope.
Animal abandoners should do serious jail time and much of it would stop. There are many other options besides abandonment. And the authorities that say they can't find these people are lying. They just don't consider a frightened broken dog to be a priority. If I wanted to find these abandoners, I would call all the cab companies in the area and ask about any fares from the train station that day. Did any of them have a dog? It wouldn't be hard at all to get a real lead on them. So, what the fuck are authorities putting in front of this as a priority? Some college kid smoking a spliff behind a dumpster? Some drunken bimbo taking a piss in an alley? Fuck that shit. Go get these real criminals and throw the book at their ass's. Put them in jail. Let them see what it feels like.
PS, if any animal looks at me like that dog in the photos...he or she will be sleeping on my couch for rest of their life.

I saw that in DM also and agree with you 100%. And if I was back in my house and saw him, he'd be with me. Fortunately Mikey is wonderful with other dogs, has a chihuahua who even comes in the house and looks around if the front door is open, and never makes a sound. I know he still misses the border collie who passed last year.
People who are mean to dogs are not worthwhile. DM also showed more of the fur trade from badger dogs or somethings like that, stun but don't kill before they skin. They have feelings. They are sentient beings. How can humans do this?
I'm not in the right frame of mind to read this right now. Too heartbreaking. My nephew's wonderful little female pit bull is in the last days/hours of her life right now. Her name in Nina and has always been the sweetest dog you'd ever want. She is as close to the perfect dog as you can get, so well behaved and smart. Things are going to be really sad around here for a while.
Stories like this make me physically sick.
I know you are a good animal person, but there are many assholes who are not , so please hear me out. Instead of people responding on how heartbreaking or nauseated they feel about these terrible stories, DO something to help animals in your community, state, the world. Volunteer, donate your time or money, adopt, rescue and have all pets neutered / spayed.Go to a shelter and walk, play and interact with these poor animals. People who did this to this gorgeous pup should be fined for abandonment and anyone who has abused or neglected an animal, including assholes involved with breeding and fighting, should be exterminated.
mary_mary, where have you been? Missed you!
Your descriptive narrative literally brought tears to my eyes. I actually grabbed Scout and pulled him to me and then I went over to Chieftain and planted a huge kiss on his big, old forehead. As I type this, Scout is wondering why his mom is weeping silently and I am so thankful that neither of them have ever had that poor pups look on their faces. You got me, Pat, but good. Excellent post.
I read this article last week in the mail, it breaks my heart and makes me so mad. hopefully this dog is better off now, going to new people who will love him and give him the respect, attention and cuddles that he deserves!
