Bowerbirds..the playboys of the bird world

If you like birds, you have to check out the Satin Bowerbird. The males build these elaborate nests on the ground, called, bowers. The sole purpose of the bower is to entice a female to mate. It's a bachelor pad. The females check out all the bowers and finally mate with the best builder, designer. It's just fascinating. HERE's a link to one of the better films about the building process. Be prepared for a tragedy in this one. I wasn't and it hit me. I've been watching dozens of films on these guys and it's hard to find good ones, because there's a fucking band called Bowerbirds. I swear there's a band named everything, isn't there? No, I don't like them much, but, I only listened to one song and went back to the bird films. Bird behavior has become an obsession, if you can't tell by all the chicken posts. My chickens have become as interesting as Bowerbirds. They are smart birds, but, aggressive, pushy birds. The chickens, I mean. I am shocked at how many people are scared of chickens. I mean, they're fucking chickens, what? Are they going to peck you to death? Is there a chicken horror movie I missed? WTF is the deal with this chicken fear? My chickens are also very affectionate and territorial about me. I didn't expect that, but, this is the first time I've raised chickens so closely.  I'll post more on them later. HERE's another nice film on Bowers, with no narration.

If I came by one of these in the wild, I would probably think a kid did it. Or a fairy, lol.

Nice houses. Being a boy bird must be nice. Most are prettier than females, and they have to lay eggs.

I love bower birds, too. Those little party pads and the decorations are too cute! Can you imagine just happening on one of those in the woods without knowing who built it and why?
What happens spontaneously in nature is sometimes just so awesome!
I did watch the entire thing, and it was sad, but you know that there are many, many mishaps that happen, that we just don't see. This just chronicled a little bit. Thanks for the warning, though.

My brother, who lives in the wilderness, had one of these nests on his backyard. It was truly insane. The bird chose blue, and even had blue plastic clothes pegs. It was just so magic! No guessing what inspired fairy tales! Good old nature! Just love it. No wonder people become bird watchers.
