Congratulations, Norman MacArthur and Bill Novak

Norman MacArthur, 74, and Bill Novak, 76, were married in Pennsylvania on Sunday. It's quite a story, since this couple spent 15 years as legally father and son. At first that headline weirded me out, then I read their story HERE. Anyone who opposes gay marriage should take a look at this couple and hear how long they've been together (since their 20's), how devoted they are, and the lengths they had to go to in order to legally protect each other should one of them get sick or die. Pennsylvania finally got it's head out of it's ass and made gay marriage legal. And the couple finally found a judge who understood their story and dissolved the stupid adoption so they could finally be wed. Man, they have gone through a lot together and they sound so happy. No one should have to go through all this crap just to be together legally. It's just so wrong. I'm happy for them, they're so cute.

I think I sass this, too. Got me wondering about all these health care provision things doctors and hospitals want you to sign. They are demanding that you appoint somebody as your spokesperson, and I haven't since there isn't anyone with a lick of sense that I trust. But they don't seem to care whom you appoint so long as it's somebody. Maybe I'll list my dog's name. And tell them he's my significant other. Regarding this couple, I'm happy they're happy. They do look really nice.

I know. I get that a lot too. I have to think about that. And I really need to decide who to trust. My daughter, of course, but, would she want that kind of responsibility? Could she really pull the plug? You know what I mean?

Having a living will eliminates any feeling of guilt for the responsible party. I truly wish my dad would have had one when it was time to make that decision. I know I did the right thing, but it was very, very hard.
