Apparently, a Notary could have stamped the license and she wouldn't even be involved aside from the filing. She is paid by the county/state a lot of money to do her job. If she cannot or will not do said job, she should vacate that position. Lots of people could use $80G a year! I don't care who you marry. STAMP! Here's your license. It's easy. She's a Pentecostal. Vodka??? OMG you guys!!!!!!!!!!! I swear on Kanye's taint that a drop of vodka has never touched my lips!!!! Well, not the lips on my face at least. I do use vodka to douche out my twunt every couple hours on account of the fact that things tend to get real nasty down there if I don't keep it in check. I can't be super sure, but I think that Albanian doctor who smelled of onions that Kanye hired to do my last analplasty might have gotten his holes mixed up. This IS NOT an issue about religious freedom. The government is NOT forcing Ms. Davis to act contrary to her beliefs. She CHOSE to run for and accept her elected position. A requirement of that position is that she perform certain official tasks. If she cannot in good conscience perform those tasks, she should resign. Vegans don't accept jobs in slaughterhouses either. And to those likening her request for "accommodation" to alternative service during the draft - its not at all the same thing. She was not conscripted into service as the county clerk, there is no civil service draft. In today's volunteer army, I'm pretty sure you can't sign up, then say - oh, by the way, I'm a conscientious objector, but please, find me an alternate way to serve, but still give me all the benefits and perks available to veterans.
Why can't these people understand that being allowed to follow/live by your beliefs is NOT THE SAME as requiring the GOVERNMENT to follow your beliefs. If the government does not have a particular religious point of view, than we are all free to practice our particular beliefs in our homes/churches/communities of like minded people. If the government/laws comport with YOUR beliefs than ONLY you are free to live by your own beliefs. What about the rest of us?

My understanding is that when she took office, there was no law supporting gay marriage. That only happened recently, and her own life changed 4 1/2 years ago, when she became evangelical.
I understand that people want her to sign all those marriage licenses, but the circumstances since she took office changed everything.
I have read that alternatives were proposed by that office, but the court decided to force her into this position. They proposed that her signature not be needed on the licenses at all, as long as licenses were still given out. Also that other clerks and government supported this, but the court decided to give her this choice, I think to try to break her. That is wrong.
As for what I would do. . . I honestly don't know.
