I rented this last night

Lars And The Real Girl surprised me greatly. I had to see it, I'm fascinated by the Real Dolls. Probably for sort of the same reason Lars was. They aren't human, but, they might kind of be. If you want to watch robots explode things or old men swinging on ropes for crystal skulls..you know what to rent. If you want a slow moving thoughtful poignant film about the depths of sweet odd people, Lars is for you. I loved it. The whole town was weird, not just Lars. I wish ALL towns were full of sweet odd lovely people. It would be a better world. Oh, and if you want to know about sex with real dolls, look it up on the net because Lars never slept with Bianca. Bianca turned out to be very religious and she slept in his sister in laws guest room. This film could have been condescending, insulting to my intelligence and full of vinyl sex jokes..it wasn't. Sweet. And Ryan Gosling is cute.

My daughter & her bf rented this over the weekend, I haven't heard how she liked it, but I know she loves Ryan Gosling too. So, I'm pretty sure she liked this movie. Glad to know it wasn't done to be a cheap porn joke either. He's waay too good for that.

Thanks! DD, I will rent this. You rent the 2 I reviewed earlier & I'll get back to ya'. Blockbuster costs over $4 now to rent a f'g movie. So, if the $1 box at McD's doesn't have this yet, I will have to wait a few days. Blockbuster is such a ripoff. You can buy a movie for $8-$10 why would you rent it for $4+? And if you don't have it back before noon the next day you get charged for another day. You could own it. That noon thing really is a trap. Sorry to vent but it is a rip off.

line in movie
" what does Bianca do"
Lars " she's a missionary"
in case this goes over your head its missionary as in Missionary sexual postion.

we saw it a while back and thought it was sweet. really funny, deep and insightful. the community was something you might wish for but would never find in our world, make believe like bianca and i wonder if that was the point.

I LOVED IT!! A friend rented it and brought it over for pizza night and we loved it..

Like you said DD it was surprising. :) I'd even watch it again.

With what most people are like these days, I can see why he liked the company of a doll.

Didn't you LOVE how the town supported him? It got to me.

love ryan gosling but thought the town was absolutely fucking crazy! supporting someones delusion by not chiding or ostracizing them is acceptable, having a life-size doll volunteer at a hospital and read to children is not
