No, they can't get your IP here

After the hubbub yesterday from that bot thief site, one commenter ask if they could get your IP's here. That IS a concern for some people. The answer is NO. I don't have anything in my codes that will even tell ME what your IP is. I figure if you want me to know who you are and where you're from, you will. And a lot of you do, you have become friends. But, I have no interest in spying and no IP trackers of any sort. Just wanted you to know.

What the hell's an IP and where can I get one? Can you eat it?? If you can eat it or take it to a party, then I'll take a whole case - SCREW the "serving size".

LOL..IP or ISP means internet service provider. It is a trackable number assigned to you by your cable company. Im my case it can tell people that this computer was used for certain posts, but, can't tell anyone where I live because we do not have an internet office within a 100 miles of here. But, most people do..so they can be tracked to thier exact location if IP's are allowed in the blog codes. Not here on DD though. You only share what you want to share here.

I loved Spy vs. Spy!

I think Wordpress shows IPs automatically, though I never look at them and I'm not sure I'd know what to do with them if I did! I know if someone leaves me a comment it shows their IP address. But again, no idea what to do with it. I don't think they're accurate, anyway. Once my ex-boss tried to say I was in trouble for doing something and he had my IP address to prove it, but according to that I lived in Dallas, GA, which is like 5 hours from here! So, I have no idea. The internet is one big confusing mess I'm sure I'll never figure out!

Jebbica that sounds scary if they can use IPs and get you in trouble even if they're THE WRONG IPS or give the wrong info about a person. WTF?

That's like saying they've found your fingerprints at a crime scene, but you were no where near it but you must be guilty anyway!

I know, right? I was just talking to Nathan about how easy it is to track someone these days if you really wanted to. IPs, credit cards, cell phones, GPS...it's all getting a bit 'Big Brother-ish' isn't it?
