This is what it sounds like when a crazy old lady calls 911 because her pet celebrity chimp just tore her friend's face off. Nothing I ever wanted to hear but, too late now.

She should have had a gun herself.
The emergency operator did a very good job maintaining a calm voice and trying to control the chaotic situation.
In ancient Rome punishment for patricide was getting sewn into a sack with a snake, a chicken, a dog and a monkey, and getting thrown in the river.
The whole story is that a person tried to raise a wild animal as a human expecting this creature to behave rationally while in reaity, its own instincts are telling it to dominate.
The owner gave the chimp xanax because it recognized that the ANIMAL was behaving aggressively.
Sad for chimp and heartbroken over the victim, but to defend anyone who raises extremely powerful wild creatures is taking a risk of becoming part of the food chain. If you want to raise a chimp then YOU should move to the jungle and live with it.
Chimpanze did not ask to be caged and stripped of its freedom in the wild just so it can become a movie set prop with hair and teeth.
Fucksake man. Even experts like Dave Salmoni who works with tigers and other predators stated that he would not get close toa male chimp.
He is hosting a show about these chimps on Animal this Thursday I believe.
this report says her hands were also ripped off. the sheer strength the animal must possess is staggering. that poor woman. http://www.postchronicle.com/news/original/article_212209034.shtml
What a horrifying situation. I've never gotten the whole "chimps are cute and funny and make fun pets" thing. In the wild, they are known to attack other chimps for no other reason than that they can. They also canibalize other chimps they have attacked. (The whole eating of the person attacked makes sense to a chimp.) The idea of keeping a wild creature just makes my skin crawl. When I was growing up, my parents bought a wolf-hybrid puppy. He seemed very good-tempered, but it really wasn't the same as a regular, domesticated dog. When my dad died, he mourned so badly, and couldn't be contained (7 foot fences couldn't keep him in) and started running in a pack with other neighborhood dogs. He was returning to a wild state, and had to be put down before he could harm anyone. My heart goes out to the chimp's owner. She obviously was very lonely, and loved her pet, but a wild animal, even when somewhat domesticated, is still a wild animal underneath.
Why are 911 dispatchers so unhelpful? "I need you to calm down a little bit." Um, right. A chimp just ripped my friend's face off and is charging me, let me just pause and take a minute to chill out.
Check out what the owner said, "She said Travis "couldn't have been more my son than if I gave birth to him," and rejected criticism that chimpanzees are inappropriate pets."
Are you kidding me? Chimps make crackerjack pets, right...The IGNORANCE of people who treat animals like people disgusts me. Too bad the chimp didn't maul her instead of her friend.
It's heartbreking, 'specially for the poor animal. 12:53:00 PM how can you say crabbie is making fum of this? I didn't get that at all from this post. Maybe this is a wake up call for people out there who think chimps are cute pets.
I remember reading last year some other "pet" chimp attacked it's owner when he went to visit it after giving it to some rescue place and that chimp did the same thing plus ripped off the guys nuts.
How do you recognize someone working with chimps? He is missing several fingers.
This is a 'joke' among professionals working at zoos. Chimps are three times as strong as humans. They have murderous teeth. And when they get angry - and a male chimp is easy to anger - they attack viciously.
The old woman was crazy to keep this animal around. Chimps are not pets. Chimps are killing machines ready to go on a rampage any moment. You can try to keep them calm - but you have to be a pro!
It should be forbidden for people to own such animals.
If your need a companion get a dog, that's what they are for. Chimps are wild animals and should be treated as such, just because they're related to humans doesn't mean they can be turned into one. I would love to believe that lions and tigers could be played with just like a house cat but that just isn't the case.
I feel sorry for the chimp, it wasn't his choice to be taken from his family and put into an alien environment. PS, I didn't watch the video, I think it was ok that it was posted I just didn't want to see or hear it.

You are ignorant about the whole story. Why would you even post this anyway. Making fun of a grewsome attack, sick.

People are so stupid. You can't treat a chimp like a child. Leave wild animals alone.

So did the friend actually die?

the woman got the chimp after her daughter was killed in a car accident...

Well DD, you can't please everyone; that's what I say as I pull up my pants and leave her house.
LMAO! But, I made you coffee before you left. Right?
