I just yelled at a kid
I have to go to work now, but, I just wanted to post this first. I just yelled at the neighbor kid for hitting the dogs. They were barking again and she started hitting them real hard on the hips and back and I had to yell over her yelling to get her attention. I said "Hey, HEY, don't hit, don't ever hit the old dog, it hurts her really bad." She went inside and I just know she's going to tell her mom I yelled at her. I don't usually go around yelling at other people's kids, but, that old dog has Arthritis. I have it too, and if someone hit me it would really hurt. What the hell? Why don't those kids have any empathy for animals? It worries me. And not just for the dogs, it worries me what they're going to grow up to be. It's a chilling thought.

I would have done the same thing.
My guess is the kids hit the dogs because the parents hit the kids. Oh, and the parents hit the dogs too. "Mom" is probably in the house with a hangover and yelling at the kid to go and "shut the damn dog up". You did the right thing to call attention to it. The kid probably doesn't know any better, and now he knows others don't approve of animal abuse. Good for you DD!
OH, I would have no problem doing what you did. Poor dog cannot defend itself. This is what the kids have learned at home. They will do this to their own kids & spouses too. It never ends, really. Does it?
I agree, the kids probably don't know any better because it is what they've seen their parents do. So sick.

I have NO tolerance for cruelty to any animal, but god help those kids and their parents had it been one of my pups. I don't know if I could have held my temper as well as you did, Pat.

I would have done the same thing. Kids don't realize animals feel pain too.

I yell at the neighborhood kids sometimes, too. They NEED it, and their parents don't always see everything. Yet, every time I'm outside working in the yard, they flock to come help. They love getting dirty in my yard. They must not be TOO afraid of me, huh?
Good for you. I would have done the same thing and I have in the past. It pisses me off when I see people, especially children, hit animals because it is their ignorant parents fault for not teaching them to respect animals.
Kudos to you Pat, I would have done the same thing...bastards, they sound like fucking idiots and you are right, it is chilling because: children who abuse and kill animals for fun grow up to be serial killers...I'm going to start leaving comments more often, so much of what you say I agree with...dang, you should live in Manhattan, we would kick some ass, lol

I'd have knocked out the mom using the son. If that dog would have bit him,they could have forced you to put him to sleep,because he "could" be dangerous. If that happened to me & my dog was going to be put to sleep,I'd have let the dog use the kid as a chew toy for a while. Hell,if their gonna put him down then I'd let him have at it.
You did the thing and I hope if my kid ever does something like that, someone stops him. I can't see him doing that (he loves and respects all animals) but if he did...more power to the person who stops him.
LisaK; You're a good Mom & that's kind of the understanding I have with my neighbors. They know if I am getting on to their kids, they deserve it.
10doll; (Hey woman!!) I think this dog that DD is talking about is the neighbor's dog! Yeah, he was beating his own dog. (If I read that right.)

The kid was a girl and she's 11. She's not little.
I'd never raise my voice to a small child, unless they were going into the street or something. Or unless they were my own.
Good for you DD. The idea of somebody hitting an animal, particularly an elderly animal who's already got health problems, makes me want to cry. One time when I was little, my mom and I saw some kids hitting a dog hard with a stick and my mom started yelling at them to stop. I always respected her for that.
I agree that the parents probably hit the kids and that the kids will grow up to hit their spouses, or let their spouses hit them. What a sad mess the whole thing is.
I've never seen them spank their kids, but, the kid was clearly "spanking" the dogs. It sucked because that old dog has joint pain. Her hips are bad. I was hurting watching it.
