While Kelly Preston has gone back to work, John Travolta spends many of his days holed up in his home and his nights he spends driving around the estate alone on his golf cart. The same golf cart neighbors say they used to see him driving in with his son, Jett. Now there is a strong rumor that Travolta wants to leave the church of Scientology because they didn't do enough for his son and he feels their practice of denying mental illness may have contributed to his death.*
He can't just walk out. Scientology requires that certain information be given to them to advance in the church, which promises (and delivers) certain things in return. In other words, they know things about John, things he wouldn't like the public to know. And they have those things on tape. All I can say is I wish John Travolta peace. I feel bad for John Travolta. He's always seemed very sweet. I hope he finds a way to dump this sect.
I don't think anyone would fall over dead or be too shocked if he had a few gay flings. So what. He's a good actor and always came across as a sweet man.
Yea, I read the entire story y'day. He's gonna come out with a huge denial ya know? I think it's true, but I know for a fact he has had homosexual relationships (my bff in Cali knows a guy that knows when John would fly up to San Jose' & exactly who he was meeting) and THEY (Scinos) know that. It would possibly ruin his life. And Jett dying kinda really already did that didnt it? I say at this point, "Who cares anymore"? Jett is gone and nothing they do can hurt as bad as that does. They probably contributed to his death and JT knows it. Get out before someone else dies!

I was wondering when he was gonna wake up and smell the coffee!! Scientologists are confused and sometimes violent nut jobs andthe way they blackmail people to stay in their cult is super scary. i hope he makes a clean break for the fresh air of sanity, and finds another, more benign path to what he is looking for.
I think that no matter what..gay or straight..John will be okay. I have always liked him. And I always will.
He is not Coocoo for Cocoa Puffs like Tom Cruise.

When I read taht article from Crabbies site, my heart broke for him. The guilt he must be carrying for denying care b/c of Scientology beliefs.

He says he's not leaving, never will. *sigh* I guess this is NOT true after all. Too bad. He can't afford ruin his marriage & his career too I 'spose. IF that would even happen. And I dont think it would. It's a cult, not easy & nearly impossible to get free of.

I heard a story about a couple in Europe who had to flee the continent with just what they had on and their passports. The psycho-ntologists put guards/vigilantes all over near their house after they expressed that they wanted out, silently threatening them with their presence, calling to torture them at all times, making their life miserable. And people think WE are nuts.

Considering what John Travolta KNOWS about them, I think that would be more of an incentive to try to scare him into staying & staying quiet too. He knows everything! He knows everything about Tommy too. He is prob a very powerful man in Hollywood because of this knowledge. I think it's more a case of what HE knows! ...he would be killed if he talked tho. of course it would be a horrible flying "accident"!
Another example of kicking someone when they are down. I suspect that nothing that Scientology could reveal about John Travolta could be even remotely as painful as the death of his beloved son.
Unfortunately, I think before some people understand loss they have to experience it. Then, and only then, can they realize the agony and complexity of grief. Hopefully, they will measure their words after losing a loved one if they are not bright enough to figure it out beforehand.
It sucks...He lost his son. I hope that living an open, honest life would ultimately be more fulfulling to JT than trying to keep up the appearances of a happy marriage within the "church", but under current circumstances, I can see how he might not be able to make that break right now. His life is already shattered--I'm sure he's clinging to what's left until he can figure out where to go from here.

I worked on a television series for 7 years (fox) and ran across alot of clams. The problem with Scientology, I think, is not that parents don't fight hard enough for their kids - Nicole seemed to spend a reasonable amount of time with Connor and Isabella in the wake of her divorce from Tom. It's that the Scienos educate kids to stay away from "suppressives", and convince them that it's their choice to avoid parents who've fallen away from the church. Coyote is right, he's prob thinking about his daughter and if he's ready to lose her too.
There's a Scientology "church" not far from me. There are people who picket it every weekend. This weekend, they were objecting that they received tax exemptions.
The information on the web about the beliefs of Scientologists are pretty scary to me.
I was always surprised that John, who is so upbeat, normally, was associated with the church.
As with any other beliefs, however, this is America where people are free to choose how and what they believe.

I hope John could just put his "image" aside and leave the church. "If" he is gay, so fucking what? If people like him and Tom Cruise would be themselves and not hide behind a facade, maybe less gay H.S. kids would commit suicide.
I will defend anyone's right to belong to any religion they choose, however, I don't believe Scientology is a religion. Once you are encouraged to break all ties with your family and friends you are entering cult territory and not far from being given some kool aide to drink. I hope John finds a way out of this situation that will bring him some peace.
It is terrible that a good person who did nothing but support his belief for so many years, needs to be subjected to blackmail because he is questioning what he believes in. Of course he is! He lost a child! No matter what religion you are, when you go through a difficult time, you question practically everything about life! Sometimes you even question why you weren't the one who went instead! I wish him the best. He has always seemed like a great person. And if he's gay, straight, Scientologist, Jewish, Athiest, whatever...he has the right to be what he chooses!

Alanna, I agree with you about everyones right to religion but that Scientology just does not fit the norm. I had an uncle who was into Scientology for 25 years and finally left 3 years ago. He told me stories that blew my mind. Have you seen pictures of Katie Holmes filming in Australia without Tom around? She doesn't look as stepford wife anymore.
I felt so bad for John T when his son died. I can't imagine being a parent and losing a child. (((Hugs))) to you Mom's who have lost a child.

As long as he wasn't bangin' his mom or some kind of livestock (and even if he DID, ain't none of my biz), I don't give a rats ass. He's never done anything nasty in my book, seems like a decent guy, and yes, is going through some MAJOR trauma right now. So, bugger off, Scien-turds.
P.S., there's an interesting site (I know, probably one of MANY)called "Why are they dead, Scientology?", which lists details of some pretty creepy and untimely demises within the cult over the years. I wish the goverment had some way of dismantling this group, but so far...fail.

John will not leave scientology because they will turn his daughter against him if he does, and he knows it. He already lost his son and I'm sure he could not bear the thought of losing his daughter too.
I think if anyone could walk away from this, it would be John. He seems to be a genuinely decent person that the public would support regardless of any scandals that might surface.
I just don't understand how people get sucked into this in the first place. It's a cult started by a science fiction writer that said, "if you want to be truly rich or famous, start your own religion". It's just a shame that so many good people trying to better themselves get trapped by it.
Kelly Preston was born into Clammology so my guess? When (rumoredly) he wanted to bolt he got set up with Kelly and the rest is history. So she's a willing beard?

I don't know a lot about Scientology,but I've always heard that's a group you really don't want to bail on,because it could possibly be bad for your health. Just something I heard.
Whether it be true or not, I hope John can some how with his prestige and money, try and change things if he stays with Scientology so this doesn't happen to anyone else's child that might be suffering from some special needs as it doesn't seem to be recognized/accepted in this religion.
My heart went out to him. It has to be 1 thing losing a child, but if you find out after that there might have been things you could have done to help or even prevent this, that has to hurt so much more.
This being said, I suppose any parent feels they could have prevented a death of their child and probably they never could.

This "Church" of Scientology's practice of keeping a file on members and their dirty little secrets is nothing but extortion and/or blackmail or a combination thereof. I'm not big on churches or organized religion of any kind myself, so I guess I shouldn't care, but any "Church" that makes members pay to acquire the "secrets" to spiritual living is a fucking crock. Hence, it is only for the rich and famous Hollywood elites. How sick is that? I hope John leaves. And I think he fundamentally has his shit together, unlike that idiot boy, Tom Cruise.
