Baby's Breath in the morning

That Baby's Breath is pretty, it's the best 3 cents I ever spent. Yep, the Dollar General had the seeds marked down to 3 cents a pack. All I did was open the packs and throw them in the Marigolds. I got a bunch for next year too. There's also something that mimics Baby's Breath in there. One is Flea Bane and I don't know what the other is, but, I didn't plant them. It's like that former junk pile just wanted to be a flower bed. Maybe it had been dreaming of being a flower bed and saving it's own little dreams.
*
I've been thinking about this story telling thing and I'm enjoying the response and the fact that I have some things written down now, but, I have lots of true stories. I mean you can't have a family like mine and come from where I've come from without lots of crazy moments. We ALL have stories, but, I think mine move into the bizarre range because my whole family is seriously nuts, even the one's I like. And I am not untouched by the crazy myself.
*
It's not like I think I escaped the genetic wack a doodle gene, but, my sort of crazy is not the kind that's dangerous. Generally. I have lots of stories about the Iowa YaYa's. I should change that to something else, if I'm going to seriously write about these women who dominated my life, I shouldn't rip off the name. Maybe you guys can come up with something.
*
There were men too, who shaped what I have become, but, in general those stories aren't amusing. They are terrifying and I don't know if I can write them down without consequences to my psyche. Not that I'm delicate, I think we all know better than that, but, some of them are pretty bad and if I am to tell the truth, which I have so far, I don't know where it will go.
*
My Father was a genius, he had an IQ that would astound people. He was talented and witty and very charming. He was also a diagnosed Schizophrenic and at times, one of the most horrifying figures in my history. In our whole family's history and that's saying a lot. He spent many years in prison for shooting his ex wife and her mother in a rage induced ambush and when he got out of prison, he met my Mother. He was older and handsome and dapper and stunned her with his wit. She was young and beautiful and fresh off the Guntown farm and not very bright. That's a fact. She never got any brighter, there isn't a pill for that. He died in prison not too long ago for the same sort of things he always did. Some murder charge, which makes me shake my head that he got away with it for so long. I could bring up murders never solved, but, what good would it do anyone now? He's dead. And I'm glad he's dead. There's some stories there though. Definitely.
*
Which brings me back to the rest of them. Oh, my, where to start? I think I may have to start changing names or I'm going to have some real family trouble here. They will find me. There's got to be an obscure cousin in the wood pile who has a computer and a printer, so I may need to change some names and try and pass it off as fiction. That's a shame because the real names, as you can see from the last story, are so much better than anything I can invent. My Mothers name is Louella and my evil aunt is named Juanita. My Grandmother was Prairie Flower, known as Rosie. See? Where in my brain could I invent such crazy grand names?
*
I have some tentative titles..The Lard Eater..The Day Jesus Drove The Van...He Drank Bleach As A Baby...The Queen Of The Roller Skating Rink....Mail Order Husband Number Three...Romance Novels Buy Second Hand Vegas. Just a few of the hundreds to chose from. I'll just pick one and start, I guess. I just don't really know what I'm doing, but, it's fun and people seem to like it and that's enough reasons to do it. Thanks for the encouragement.

I like "The Day Jesus Drove the Van". It's catchy yet doesn't sound like a book from the religious section. I'd pick it up.

You could just tell you stories here in a separate section. People get book deals off blogs all the time. Not sure about the changing names to protect the innocent though. Hmmm. Maybe not the best idea I've had.

I can't wait to read more stories! How about "Tales from Guntown" lol.

I like 'The Day Jesus Drove the Van' too. Very Catchy!

The day Jesus drove the van is a really funny one, to me. But, it was an in law who's a preacher and my cousin RosaLee is still married to that wack job. She was the queen of the roller rink, so that came first. I guess it doesn't matter though. So far, they're all out of order.

Odd, RoasaLee just pulled in the drive way. Funny how things work, huu?

You could call the Iowa Yayas the 'Guntown Gaggle' instead!

Dirty Disher said...

I like that, it's a lot to type though. GG's?

I like Guntown Gaggle too or Guntown Gals ... Keep going, can't wait to read more. Start from birth and just go from there, lol, I'm sure it will be a page turner!

Pat, another great story! Please don't be offended, I was thinking of book titles and thought of some: "This side of Crazy", "Tales from Crazytown: A Life Lived". Guntown Gals was good. I liked some of your titles, maybe you could use them as chapter titles.

One thing I can't get out of my head is an old saying: Crazy people make even sane people crazy. Maybe that's a good one.

Just wanted to provide more encouragement and ask you to continue with the storytelling. Very glad to have found your site.

Pat,
I loved the title you came up with.
I do think it's wise to change names to simplify legalities when publishing.

You can still say it is all based on truth but you changed the name to protect them and yourself. You can even keep it funny by saying they'd kill you if they didn't like what you said.

If the real name is Ella California you can keep the same, "flavor" just substitute a different state and alter the first name. Bella Oregon.

I think the Iowa, Guntown Gals could be called Gunnies for short and you could even name chapters with; Gunnies grow up, Gunnies revenge, Gunnies move, etc...

Iowa's Guntown Gunnies isn't half bad and it could encompass the men as well as the women.

Whatever you do it'll be fantastic!

yep...the day jesus drove the van...

guntown girls....or guntown gals....then you could subtitle things like 'shooting blanks' 'no straight shot'....

alright...gotta final exam tomorrow... :D

Yay. I have one almost finished, but, I have to go to work so I saved it to draft and I'll finish it tonight. It's so weird, but, when I start writing this stuff it just flows and I don't even have to change anything. I just correct my spelling. This one is called The Elvis Obsession, or, Queen Of The Rink. I sure hope you like it.

I like Gunnies...it sounds like mean grannies. LMAO! I'm late for work now.

We'll LOVE it!

Voting for Gunnies as well.

You can add a blurb at the bottom stating "names changed to protect the innocent and the stupid"
How exciting:) I cannot wait to read more!

If we are talking about an actual book, then I like Tales (or Stories) from Guntown. Have a preface about who you are and what Guntown is. Then each 'chapter' is a separate entry, like The Day Jesus Drove the Van, instead of one long running story. If that makes sense.

Either way, I'm in. Put me on the presale list!

So, if you wanna publish this stuff, maybe you shouldn't divulge the entire stories on this site. If you get the milk for free, why buy the cow?, sorta logic. Save it, tease us readers, but dont give it all up. If it's valuable enough to publish, then we will wait. Thank you dear.

I have to agree with Rox, about just feeding us teasers and not the whole deal. Keep the best in the book. You could easily run this into a few books. Multi book feals pay in a dandy range!

Personally , I can't wait to read " He drank bleach as a baby " !! I , too , really enjoy reading about your life , Pat . It makes my dysfunctional family seem almost sane in comparison ! LOL !!

I love reading your stories! I can't wait to see more of them. I really enjoyed the one about Jack and Bobby. I hope you keep them coming!

When I see you sharing such deep parts of your life it motivates me to continue telling my story.

"when I start writing this stuff it just flows"

That's exactly what I find appealing about your writing. It's like we're sitting around all comfy and chatting with coffee and something reminds you of the time...and you launch into a story. It's conversational without literally carrying on a conversation with us, but we feel like we are there with you.

You write intelligently but without pretense. You write of tragedy without sounding tragic. You manage to be both poetic and prosaic and make it flow seamlessly.

I start reading one of your stories and I'm immediately there and I can't put the 'story' down 'til it's done.

I look forward to whatever your next story will be.

I liked Gunnies and thought of Grunnies next with the same idea as mean grannies.

I love the titles you're considering. As I read them I can't help but think if Tom Waits were to title your stories, that's the list he'd give you. Looking forward to reading them!

Heidi said...

Oh I like all these ideas! It would be soooo David Sedaris! Excellent!

I also think that Jesus should be a chapter title.

Bohemianmoon said...

Don't give it all away for free, but good GOD girl, keep writing!

great suggestions from everyone! I love "The Day Jesus drove the Van" for a book title, but then I also like Stories from Guntown or something like that (if the above is intended for a chapter title). I also love the GaGa's to describe the old ladies. It pays homage to the YaYa's but creates a unique distinction for the ladies of Guntown.

Dirty Disher said...

Thank you all. I agree with whoever said the black is hard to read in long posts and I will be changing that. Jesus drove the van and the rest were chapter titles. I don't know what I'd title a book. I like writing in here, it lays out well. Maybe I'm just used to it. I have a whole book I wrote a long time ago, fiction, on paper somewere, I never did anything with it. I guess I'll keep going. Thanks.
