Personality plus

The wild silver clematis has strayed from the fence and is winding it way into a walnut tree, pulling the branches down with silver white flowers. It's a pretty thing. Or a mess, depends on how you look at it.

Today I went to the school to take Lissa her glasses she ran up and hugged me, then one of her class mates hugged me. He always hugs me and calls me "Gaaa" (Grandma)..anyone's Grandma is his Grandma too. He's so cute. I'll just call him Bud, he has kind of a doper name, so Bud is close. ~rolls eyes~ The first time I saw Bud, I was startled, my eyes must have gone wide and I so hope he didn't notice. Bud's face is really messed up. It looks like it was smashed in with a sledge hammer. The worst case of fetal alcohol syndrome I have ever seen. I wondered why he was in Lissa's class. Her class is for kids with behavioral problems, not special ed, they have a separate class. Then I got to know him, he's sharp as a tack. He can't talk, because something in his voice box or tongue is deformed. But, he can hear and he understands everything you say. I've seen him work on the class computer too, he catches on really fast. He has sparkly brown eyes, one he almost lost to his facial deformity, but, you can see it when he faces foreword. He dances and laughs and he makes everyone in the class laugh and he's the first one to give a hug if you're feeling down. Lissa loves him. I do too, so it was good to see him today. I honestly think he's one of the cutest kids I've ever known, now.

When I was younger I used to be disgusted and angry when I saw pregnant women drink or do drugs, but, I figured it wasn't my business. It IS..it's all of our business. If they're visibly pregnant, it means they are planning on having that baby and they should be put in jail for the rest of their term, so the kid has a chance. They can go sweat out their addictions in jail for a few months. No one has the right to do that to a child. Can you call the cops if you see a pregnant woman drinking? I don't like cops, but, I'd do it. And I don't mean a glass of wine at dinner..I mean those whores who go to bars and parties and slam back hard liquor like there's no tomorrow and their stomach is out to here. They're evil.

I drink and smoke but would never do it pregnant or around kids.

I used to be a hostess in a restaurant/ bar back when there were smoking sections. A pregnant woman and her friend came in once and I didn't ask their preference and just seated them in non smoking as far from the smoking section as you could get. The place wasn't that big and it was pretty much always smokey anyway. I'll be damned if she didn't light up right there for all to see and was drinking her "friends" drink too. I had to ask her to put out the cigarette, because she was in non-smoking, and they left without paying because she was so mad at me. Oh well.

I almost got fired for refusing to serve hard liquor to a pregnant woman once. They just got someone else to do it.

I am a pediatric nurse and I have to deal with this all of the time. We actually had a mom that drank the whole time she was pregnant and drank while she was breastfeeding. While her child was latched on, she was drinking. We see babies all of the time suffering from withdraws because their stupid, selfish mothers did any and all kinds of drugs while they were pregnant. It is so hard sometimes to keep my mouth shut. If they want to mess up their body's, fine, I don't give a shit. But, it isn't the baby's fault and they shouldn't have to suffer for stupid decisions.

Not only that they are evil, but seeing a pregnant woman drink at a bar is a total buzzkill. Not to say they can't go out and have fun, but, not that kind of fun that puts your baby in danger.

DD I just saw your comment on my blog, you are a sweetheart!

The other day when I was at physical therapy with my kid, a very, very pregnant woman asked me for a lighter. I gave it to her. She looked like she could pop at any moment. She was there with two little ones waiting for her kid with cerebral palsy to get done.
I didn't smoke when I was preggers, but I aint gunna go on a crusade and confront pregnant women either. I worked in a bar for years...never saw a pregnant woman, but it was a college bar.

Kerri,
I stopped breast feeding at 7 months because I went out with friends and had too many. Couldn't "pump 'n dump", so I quit. One of my friends smoked pot when she was pregnant. So wrong. People assume that when their baby is born and has a good apgar score, that everything is fine. They're misguided, many times the effects of toxins don't show up until their kiddo is older, like ADHD.

Kerri, I don't see how anyone can deal with these kind of women all the time. I can't stand them.

A friend of mine insists on continuing to smoke while she is pregnant! She justifies it under that old wives tale that it is harder on the baby to quit than it is for here to continue to smoke. She also said that her mom smoked when she was pregnant with her and she turned out just fine! It is hard to be her friend and watch this!

I was a bartender for about 10 years and I have to say that I've never seen a pregnant woman getting drunk. I've served a couple of beers to some before, but drunk? I've never seen a drunk pregnant woman in my life.

There must be plenty of them, Tonya, because I've known three of these kids right here in this tiny town.

I have a cousin named Tonya. Her twin is named Sonya. They look exactly alike. Their mom always yelled "Twin!" at them when she wanted one of them.

Anon..I know how you feel. I watched my DIL smoke and live on cheetos and mountain dew while she was pregnant with Lissa. She'd make me so mad with that and would not listen. Lissa has Chiari. And it always makes me wonder.

lol. My friend has twins and I can't tell them apart so I just holler "twin" and they come running. Of course, you'd think a mom could tell them apart.

Seriously though, maybe I'm naive, but I've never seen a drunk pregnant woman in my life. I don't know what I'd do if I saw one. It would be almost surreal.
