The SweeTango has been developed to be the successor of the incredibly successful HoneyCrisp apple. They say is has even more flavor and will start to be sold in select areas around Labor Day. It will become available nationwide in 2011 or 2012. I have to admit I'm curious. What could be better than a Honeycrisp? We just got those in last year and I tasted them for the first time. They were pretty amazing and worth the $1.00 more a pound than regular apples...at the time. But, the best apple we got in last fall was a plain old Red Delicious. It was the cheapest one too. This new SweeTango will be more regulated, they said anyone is allowed to grow Honeycrisp and when it's grown in warmer climates it loses flavor and crispness. I don't know, but, my hunch is that the Red Delicious were better because they were grown more locally and we got them as soon as they were picked. Nothing tastes like crap more than a "keeper" apple. The Next Big Thing growers are aiming apples at kids who are turned off by poor quality apples. Gawd, no kidding. There is not much more disgusting lunch food than an old mushy apple. Kids don't usually pay the grocery bill though, maybe they should put more money into quick shipping. Until then, kids will still be getting gross mushy "keeper' apples and trading them for a pencil. I'm glad I'm grown up and can buy my own apples.

That loos delicious. I want some apples! I always buy Granny Smith. I like the less sweet a little sour, tangy flavor. They always make a "CRUNCH!" sound too. Thats a good apple. I would never in my entire life et an apple that was small & red with any spots on it. And those are usually the ones that do that. Most people reserve those for pies cuz they can be cut up & cleaned before they are eaten. Its like a bad banana to me. YUCK! If it aint firm & snaps when you peel it and still a tiny bit green on the skin, no thanks.

Nothing beats a New England Macintosh straight off the tree on a crisp Oct. day!
But I'm a real apple-a-holic the rest of the year too and will try anything. I love the Golden Delicious!
I don't like apples and I think it's because I've only ever ate keepers. Once, as a kid, I went picking apples in Southern Ontario and I ate one of those and thought it was the most amazing thing ever. No idea what kind it was except it was perfectly delicious.
I'll occasionally get a craving for a red delicious with cheddar but that's the only time I'll eat a fresh apple.
I never heard of honeycrisp. Where do I have to live to get one of those?!
man now i wanna make an apple crisp.yesterday it was cream of broccoli soup and fresh pico de gallo from some tomatoes my brother grew. here comes a big butt!
i shop at super walmart which i hate due to crowds . their produce sucks big time. always mushy within a day or 2. it's a waste to buy fruit there.
I hate bananas unless they're green. They can shove those ripe bananas up their ass.
I love to make banana-pumpkin bread with old bananas! I wouldn't eat one if you paid me though.
Hey, yeah, and Nancy Today showed how you can just toss the blackened bananas in the freezer until you get enough for bread.
I've been seeing Grapples in the market. It's an apple and it smells just like grape juice. I haven't tried them because they are expensive and looks like they have probably been sitting there a while, so they have to be mushy and grainy and I hate that.
Has anyone tried these?
I which I lived in a place where I could walk outside and pick a nice apple! I'm so envious!
