Reader Angie sent me this picture in the spirit of the season and it's quite a mystery. The red jacket looking thing is the anomaly. They were standing on a drop off so it's pretty impossible for anyone to be standing behind them there. There were no children in the park that day and they certainly would have been noticed if they were. It was September in Illinois and no one needed or brought a coat. As I looked at the red..thing..I noticed what looked like part of a leg. Angie just wondered, at first, what it was that ruined her photo. Soon she realized this was something very odd. Someone suggested a double exposure, but, it was taken with a digital camera with a blank memory card. She says she did a little research and can find no tragedies associated with the area.*
I believe we are looking at a genuine mystery here and I know paranormal oddities don't appear looking like Casper. They appear many ways and are sometimes hard to understand. I played with the photo, turing it this way and that and then viewing it in negative. In negative the "jacket thing" does not have the same substance as their clothes. It's just odd. Angie wants you guys to tell her what you think this thing is. It sure is spooky!

It looks like a little kids coat to me. Maybe by chance this little boy or girl in the red coat protects this guy in the picture. It just came out in this photo. Or could it be slightly doc in there with some cleaver photshop
No, I don't think anyone tampered with it. Angie was too genuine and really puzzled. She didn't claim anything, she just wanted to know what the heck it could be.

This is easy photoshop. However, if it's real, then it looks like a lighting or camera anomaly, nothing more really. Of course the more you look at it and want to believe it is something paranormal, then yes it looks like a little red jacket from the 80's. With a little bit of leg below.
I would probably suspect photoshopping as well, but since I spend time reading and occasionally commenting on this blog, I wouldn't purposely set myself up for ridicule here. It was just a weird picture that I took that I was looking for opinions on. Thanks for the "beautiful" Pat, I think she is too...:)
It also looks like there is something else coming up from the neck area of the jacket. Maybe I am wrong but almost like part of a head. I understand that part looks dark like the boys shirt or pants but I don't imagine his hip shoots out that far. Definitely an interesting photo!

Yes, she is my youngest :) Definitely not ready for her to leave next fall... Maybe my oldest will get down to business and I'll have a grandchild to play with...LOL
Megan, I thought that too, that I could see just a bit of a dark curve that would indicate a head. The thing that is weird to me is that if you estimate where the little knee would be and the fact that they are standing on the edge of a hill, there wouldn't be any way that the leg could be touching the ground. I don't know what to make of it.

At first sight it looks like the kid snuck behind...but if there were no kids around that day, then that red jacket is just strange.
i see his little fingers curled under the coat sleeve. his skin might be medium brown, not white. i see the curve of the back of his head behind the dude's forearm, and his leg in dark pants, bent to take a step. the image of the child doesn't seem to cross into the space between the dude's leg. there does seem to be enuff room between the couple and the drop off for a small kid to walk by, but unnoticed, hmmm, i don't think so. i wouldn't know why anyone would go thru the trouble to photoshop this, tho i'm not ready to jump on the paranormal notion either. interesting.
I thought you could make out little fingers as well. It's obviously a more modern coat, you can see the little square of velcro on the wrist. I just really like speculating about it...:)
I think it's one of the most interesting pics I've seen..of the mysterious nature.
Thanks for sharing this with us, Angie. I've done a fair amount of paranormal exploration over the years and have experienced too much unexplainable phenomena to not be 'a believer'. "De-bunking" is just a necessary part of a logical process when it comes to anything paranormal-- which is a very good thing. I don't think anyone meant anything personal by suggesting it could be 'shopped.
I increased the size of the photo by 200% and a "red blob" morphed immediately into what looks like a child ducking/stepping behind the young man. I can clearly see the dark outline of his head, the collar, arm and cuff of the red/black parka and fingers just visible, dark pants.
Whether you're a believer or not, I don't think anyone should discount the fascinating image caught in this photo without first increasing the size and taking a really good look!
I too inverted the colors on the photo and it certainly looks like the left sleeve of a child's "marshmallow" style winter coat - complete with either a button cuff or a velcro cuff.
As a believer in the paranormal, I would say that it appears as if someone decided to invite themselves to be a part of this photo - perhaps the child or small adult wearing the jacket wanted to be seen. A very interesting photo for sure - maybe contact TAPS or a local paranormal society to get their take on it.
