The best tippers are people who are the middle class

Too bad there are so many jackasses out there
thanks for telling us about his site DD - Kiki :)
The waiter speaks the truth.. I like it.. Makes you think dont eat out that much. You never know what your going to get. Its better to save $$$ make your own food and wait on others or yourself. Even though its nice getting waited on. But ewww gross that lemon story yuck.. This would totaly explain why my dad got e-coli once. My parents ate out for a whole month.
Oh, you're pretty safe. You have to know where you're eating really. And you have to treat the wait staff like human beings. Do that, and you will be treated well.
Thanks for the link. I was up way too late last night reading his old posts.
Based on this I don't think that I ever want lemon or ice in a restaurant again!
Ice is always gross at the bottom. Everywhere. As long as the ice bin is full, you're safe.
When my daughter was in high school and college she worked as a waitress.
She had similar stories. Because of her I try to treat my waiters/waitress like I would if I was being waited on by my daughter.
Most people don't realize they only make 2 or 3 dollars an hour and really live off the tips.
I always leave a minimum of a 20% tip. It is very hard work.
Julie, people like you never have to worry when they eat out. Bastards who fuck with wait staff should worry. They are carrying your food! Don't people understand that? I never fucked with anyone's food, no matter how awful they were, but, others did. Man, I've seen some bad bad shit.
I saw a total bastard once who continually treated everyone like shit when he came in. He grabbed ass, demanded things off menu, sent everything back 3 times, just a fucking asshole. No tip ever. Once he played grab ass with a waitress who was the cook's girl friend. I watched that cook stick the guys hamburger bun down his pants and wipe his ass real good with it. Then he slapped in the burger and hit the bell. OMG, I laughed. That fucker ate shit and none of us said boo.
I've always treated wait staff with respect and leave good tips. I understand the hard work and low pay thing. And after working in housekeeping quite a few years ago I learned a few things about how to leave a hotel room. My husband kids me about it but I always tidy the room up and gather all the dirty towels together and make sure all garbage is thrown in the can. I do have to resist the urge to make the bed before we check out. LOL
It's always a good idea to just be a decent human being and put yourself in other's places. It just is.
And you will be rewared for that.
it's just common sense "The Golden Rule"

Then why are some people such assholes? Really. I was a waitress, I made less than 2 bucks an hour. I smiled, I brought them water and refils and counted ice cubes and got them "Extra booze" and wiped their kids nose and heated his bottle and agreed that their food was cold and took it back and then agreed it was too hot and gave them a free drink for the awful time and smiled some more and put 12 entres on seperate checks and did everything but give them a blow job and they left me a dollar. Gee thanks. Average customer who thinks he's better than a lowly waitress because he sells used cars and wacks to Playboy.
And I didn't tell his wife he grabbed my boob.
DD, you just got me hooked on another blog!
I am decent to the waiting staff. I like to tip well. At our favorite mexican restaurant we don't tip any less than $20, usually 50% of our check. Because they are nice people, the food is excellent (hand-made flour tortillas are the shit!), and the waitresses are awesome. Any other 'chain' restaurant, never less than 10 or 15 bucks depending on the check and the service. We usually order drinks too, and don't chit chat after eating. I feel really bad when I don't have a chance to get cash at the ATM for tip, and have to put it on the card. I know they would rather have the cash.
Oh and right now I'm having leftover pizza from the BEST pizza place in the Pacific Northwest: Vics.
Awesome hand-tossed dough, pesto, feta, mozzarella, spinach, tomato. MMMM. They have about every veggie listed in their topping options. Lots of greek olives. Shep likes the artichoke hearts and red onions. Their pizza dough is the shit!
Meissa, you are waiter savy, I can tell by the no chit chat comment. People who sit for hours at a table and don't tip extra for that suck. That waiter/waitress HAS to turn those tables to make a living. You are, in essense, renting her table. If you stay past dessert..tip double.
I don't get people, I mean, you wouldn't stay at a hotel an extra day and not expect to pay becuase you were there yesterday. People are assholes.
Oh, and I had pizza too. It was frozen but I found a good one. BBQ chicken, thin crust. Yummy.
Thank you Pat. Another great blog to read.
If you ever get hold of a copy, read Anthony Bourdain`s book Kitchen Confidential. It really lets you know what it is like in the back of the restaurant.
Yesterday I made home made pasta sauce with Italian sausages and meatballs. Yummy! Tonite will be goulash.
OH love this blog. Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to read more of the older post.
I think restaurant people are some the best experts on human nature. very perceptive about comfort and need of a guest. The bank depends on it.
I love his blog. What a genius idea to write about waiting tables...vent out all the negative energy from the assholes! No one knows what that job is like until you've done it. I haven't waited tables in years and I still occasionally have "waitressing nightmares". Everyone should have to wait tables for a year...there's no better job to learn all you need to know about human nature.
