I thought it might be a Porcupine because of the way it's so still, but, I'd never seen one that color. So I googled and yeah, in Maine they are dark. I think it's just a fat Porc. Cool though, I wish I'd seen it.
You know the hunters rule about Porcupines? Never kill one, it's bad luck. They move really slow so you always leave them as prey for an injured starving man (or woman nowadays).
If I am injured or starving, I kinda bet the last thing I am gonna think is "Hmmm, lets get a porcupine for dinner"...that or a skunk. Come to think of it, I wouldn't eat a racoon, a possum , or a ground hog either. All of which I see regularly on the roadside as roadkill. I would just get to a road & hope there is a McD's closeby. LOL!!! rox
When I was a little kid I remember visitiing my cousins who lived in the countryside. We went for a hike in the woods and we came across a porcupine that was up in a tree. They started throwing rocks at it and they wouldn't stop. I hated them so much after that.
Porcupines are huge and black where I come from. Their quill tips are white/light. Smell really bad too. Like all wildlife I guess. I was too late to see the video too.

I was going to say a porcupine to or a mountain beaver. Mt beavers are the only ones that climb some what.
Good call Pat. It looks like a fat porcupine kinda. We had a raccoon that ate horse feed for years and got that big.

I say it's a porcupine. No way would a bear climb that high.

I guess they took it off because they thought it was Bigfoot and it turned out to be a Porc. LOL.
