The most frightening thing I've read in ages..

Source
Be glad you don't live in Texas, unless you DO live in Texas in which case you have my sympathy. See that woman? Her name is Cynthia Dunbar, she's a Christian evangelical lawyer who's managed to get herself, along with a clutch of people just like her, in control of the Texas Scool board.
The board is to vote on a sweeping purge of alleged liberal bias in Texas school textbooks in favour of what Dunbar says really matters: a belief in America as a nation chosen by God as a beacon to the world, and free enterprise as the cornerstone of liberty and democracy.
*
In other words, they will rewrite American history based on the evangelical Christian beliefs and what SHE knows is right and Godly. Dunbar: "There seems to be a denial that this was a nation founded under God. We had to go back and make some corrections."
*
If the vote goes Dunbar's way, the new school ciriculum will promote rightwing views on religion, economics and guns while diminishing the science of evolution, the civil rights movement and the horrors of slavery.
*
Particularly alarming was this note: The curriculum has alarmed liberals across the country in part because Texas buys millions of text books every year, giving it considerable sway over what publishers print. By some estimates, all but a handful of American states rely on text books written to meet the Texas curriculum.
*
This is seriously scary. This has to be stopped. Fight the crazy, Texas..FIGHT!

Adopt a Montessori system. Or at least teach Math, English and Science well and let their brains figure out the rest.

When a group is not sure of something they
believe. If they were sure they would know.
It's simple. Think for yourself. Ask questions?
Don't be afraid to say what you need to say.
Just do it. Communication is the key to what
seperates us from the rest of the members of
our animal kingdom. Remember if something is
a bit off & just doesn't make sense then it's not
true. Knowledge is a great thing to be had if
you have the tool in which you need to get it.
The desire to learn, try , do something new !!!
It really doesn't matter if you fail at it. The most
important thing is that you gave it a go and went
for it. You tried ! It takes courage to get off the
fence and make a decision. You may make the
wrong one. Sure it happens. But learn and admit
a mistake. Say your sorry and don't reapeat it.
You will learn a lot more from life if you embrace
it each day the good and the bad. It will show
you who you are and what you can handle. It's
only then that you will begin to know your real self.
You may just find that you are richer than you think.
It's really good to just be who you are and I'm glad
you're all here. I may forget what we've said but 50
years from now all the good :) feelings of these
conversations will remain. That lawyer in TX is a nut !

we left Texas back in the late 80's when our kids were still tots. They had mandated that all teachers would be teaching in bi-lingual settings. And your child would have to know Spanish as it was the teachers decision in which language to teach. That says alot about Texas. Its mostly hispanic. That rule was made to appease the huge hispanic population there. It was made law. I wonder what she says about that? Thats NOT American either. Church & school have never mixed well, thats why churches established their own schools. Thats fine, you can choose. She's making it so you cannot choose and thats NOT American at all!!! She looks like a judgemental zealot bitch. Hopefully this wont pass. It would set a terrible precedent.

OK, forget Texas. I just saw a news flash about some nut attacking some little girls in a Chinese meat market and hacking them to death with a cleaver! Last week some ohter nut ran in a school & stabbed more little ones. WTF is going on in China that is making all these men want to attack & kill small children? Its really an epidemic. I know DD wont post about it, because it soo utterly disturbing. But this is getting to be almost a daily occurance. WTF?

I knew this story was going to be bad when you put christian evangelical and lawyer together in pretty much the first sentence.

Crabbie, I can't post comments at your site. Whats up with that?

My son has been talking about the Texas school book issue for some time now. He has learned about it in one of his religion classes in high school.
I will not post my Christian views on this subject here, as most of you already know enough about them, anyway.
I am worried about the status of children in China, as well. The news is horrible. I can not imagine what it takes for someone to hack kids to death. What the Hell is going on over there?
As far as the rapture, I think things would have to get even worse before that will happen.

Obviously, she doesn't know the state of American schools. American schools are no longer number one and have not been for a long time. It has nothing to do with rewriting history. It has alot to do with the kids who are too preoccupied with b/s than studying. This will not help their scores or help them to achieve. What this will do is appease those Christian evangelicals who are coming out of the woodwork since Obama got elected. You know, the Muslim, Black man who is not a native-born American who wants to take their guns away. Believe me, I have seen and heard a lot of this since he was elected. They all believe he is a threat to America.A minority of idiots with Sarah Palin as their leader. We should be scared because her book and her TV show and all her appearances are just a ploy to stock her war chest. Why do you think she resigned? So she could start the fundraising and spend 3 years scaring the shit out of America in an effort to have them elect her because they will be so paranoid and afraid.Truly evil.P.S. As far as Texas being largely hispanic, wasn't Texas part of Mexico at one time?

A bit off topic a bit here but since Crabbie brought it up, I think this is cannibalism - human tissue, eaten by humans - but that's just my opinion.

This is a bigger thing than any of us would think. Texas decides for the whole nation what textbooks students get. It has been that way for dog-years.

My friends who are home-schooling their kids (secular agendas) are bolstered by this idiocy. Their kids actually get to learn true history, complete with blemishes to the USA (often omitted - does anybody remember being taught about Japanese internment camps? How is Iran-Contra addressed?) as well as other 'civilized' nations.

Omitting factual information and pushing a religious agenda are both the cornerstones of a regressive society. Hello Iran, Afghanistan, etc.

Missy,

Mexico occupied Texas from 1824 until 1836. That is all. Mexico encouraged populating Texas in 1824 after declaring independence from Europe. Texas was broke back then.

In April of 1820 Generalisimo Santa Ana was defeated by the Texan Army and Texas declared independence.

Mexico lost it like they got it; by force.

I heard about this crazy bitch a few weeks ago -- some parents went to the school board meeting to protest but to no avail as the board passed this shit. Unfucking believable in 2010. And now the publishers will pass this crap around the country. Very scarey, I agree.
