What do YOU think of this?

These parents are just two fucking idiots. This is only out of context if it was filmed at a strip club. This is wildly inappropriate for girls that age to be wearing those costumes and doing those moves. When do they start pole dancing classes - age 10?

My daughter does dance competitions and I've seen a few routines like this. Some dance teachers are rabid about winning these competitions and will do anything to stand out.

I'm so sick of this - I'm tired of clothing companies, magazines, tv shows and even parents sexualizing young girls.

I saw that on the news last night and all I have
to say is " I am not amused ! " - Kiki :/

These girls are too young to know what "bumping and grinding" is about. I don't think the dance is really THAT suggestive; they're just doing the moves they were taught and they seem to be having a really good time doing it. What I DO object to is the outfits! I showed it to my husband and he agrees. We would probably let Gwennie do this dance but NOT the clothes-or lack thereof. And they said it was an "urban" dance competition, which is a totally different style of dance-the style they were performing. I was much more upset by Miley Cyrus grinding!!

Saw this online yesterday. Comment that comes to mind:

A pedophile's wet dream

Good old mom & dad saying this wasn't meant for the whole world to see. Ah, no, but it was meant for an auditorium full of adults to see. Wonder what they'll be saying when these little girls are 14 - 16- 19 ?

I see kids on the beach (the same age and younger) wearing less. People are worried about pervs seeing it and jerking off to it. Well...if it wasn't all over the damn news, how would they see it? I think it's much-a-do about nothing. I see talented girls, dancing and having a great time. They see dancing like this anywhere and everywhere. Adults may see it as bumping and grinding because they know about sex and dirty dancing and whatever else you wanna call it. Most nine year olds don't see it that way. An adult mind can put just about anything in a dirty light.

But, how do you explain those costumes? They are sexy burlesque clothes. Period.

Pretty good dancing for 7 yrs old. They can't possibly understand what is going on there. Absolutely age inappropriate.

Pedophiles dream video.

The grown ups involved here need to GROW UP!

I took dance for 15 years of my life. We never wore anything like this. I would say it wasn't until I graduated high school and was done with dance/cheerleading. I started noticing that outfits and cheerleading uniforms were starting to look more college level for younger girls. Since that movie Bring it on and others showing high school girls wearing these college level uniforms. Yes granted these girls are younger and this is not cheerleading. Its so uncalled for having them wear such scandalous reveling costumes. Plus the dancing is to old for them to perform. We need to keep are children "children". Not have them grow up faster than they are suppose to.

Whateva.....I'm just glad I don't have to live with those girls once the hormones start flowing.

Part of the loss of innocence so young now-a-days.

If they spent half the time they did dancing studying; they'd be recognized for a better achievement than good range of motion exercises.

This is exactly why young girls get sent to Bela Korola's gymnastics school at a young age. They can bend & move, very flexible. This is however, not Olympic's training, this is a stupid dance competition. Yes, the instructors are adults & will do anything to win and they do have adults ideas. Doing a childish dance will not get any trophy's. Sadly, the parents pay lots of money for the classes & costumes, trips, hotel rooms etc. and they expect champions. Too bad it's a comp to see who can be the sexiest tot! So much of this out there nowdays. Be watching for a reality show now! We already have Toddlers & Tiaras, now we will have these dancing babies! Gawd...stop the insanity! Pedo-dream come true is right!! So, when one of these babies is molested is it her fault? Is it their parents fault for sexualizing her? Is it the dance schools fault? Oh, it will happen. Another Jon-Benet coming right up!

Yeah, it's the beach! You wouldn't wear a bikini to the office.

i think it is bad judgement all around. my daughters were never alowed to wear bikini's. my husband had a fit that i bought them boy short & tank 2 piece. he said he wouldnt have his daughters paraded around infront of pervs dressed all skimpy.
i dont think there is any problem with the song but they should have more clothing on. dancers wear spandex, it moves & doesnt restrict movement. it is a joke for that mother to say they are barely dressed because they need to move. gymnasts wear spandex outfits & they arent nearly naked.
the kids might not know what they are doing looks bad & sexual but the teacher that taught the dance moves to them is an adult & certainly knew what she was teaching them. kids are growing up way too fast, that is why we have kids having babies so much younger now. they are exposed to this type of stuff.
the guy said the video wasnt meant for everyone to see. well if they dont think there is a problem with it then why would they say that? there would be no way my child would be allowed to wear such skimpy clothing.
this is just like the beauty pagents. parents dress their little girls up in skimpy & adult type clothes, cake their faces with makeup & put them on view for everyone to see. what is beautiful about gobs of makeup? i have seen those girls like the ramsey girl do adult type motions, movements & dances.
the less clothes these girls have on just give the pervs much more to get exited over. my daughters will never be raw meat for some sick creep.
there are talented kids out there but does that mean they all need to put strips of fabric on to show off their talent?

What is wrong with people & their need to sexualize their children so early. Leave them alone & let them be kids. They only get to be kids for a little while. The costumes are so inappropriate. Why do people keep putting their kids out there for the psychos of the world.

It would not be so disgusting if these kids were actually dressed. Shaking your pelvis for entertainment when you are 7 is one thing, doing it scantily dressed it another. Both, IMO, wrong. What happened to playing with Barbie. I bet the parents are even worse famewhores than you know who. Whore is Gloria Steinem when you need her?

This is just sad. Hopefully the exploited girls on the tape will grow up and realize that there is more to being a woman than being a sexual object. Hopefully they, sooner rather than later, will see their parents for the uninformed and misguided people they are. Keep your fingers crossed for these young girls that somehow they find some positve role models as they go through life.

The dancing itself doesn't really bother me. The outfits are a different story. What would have been so bad about putting mesh between the tops and the pants? That would have made it much less icky.

It's really sad how some parents want their children to win at all costs. It's a stupid dance award for second graders! It's NOT worth sexualizing them like this! I think something is really wrong with you if you think your 7-year-old winning a certificate or dinky little trophy is really that important. These parents need to grow up.

Those parents must be closely related to Billy Ray 'Daddy Pimp' Cyrus. They are sitting close enough for somebody to clunk their heads together and it's too bad somebody didn't. And what the heck does 220% mean? Can't stand that.

I'm sure that the girls don't realize how they are being sexualized and objectified. The adults however should know better. There is nothing intrinsically wrong or sexual about a naked 8 year old girl either but that is also completely inappropriate in a public setting and a dance competition is a public setting. I wouldn't be surprised if pedophiles gravitated towards such events if this is what they are.

I hate the thought that Big Brother needs to legislate everything however this might change my mind.

Does anybody remember when Brooke Shields mom was defending Pretty Baby? I believe that Brooke ended up going to court years later because she was embarrassed by those photos.

Maybe it wouldn't have looked so bad if they had dressed like the Chipettes and had gone more for a playful touch!

Those girls are INCREDIBLE dancers. But I agree with the overall consensus here. It's the ADULT who is pushing their "creativity" into these children, so of course the kids see nothing wrong. And those parents are CREEPY !!! The dad especially, he gave me the creeps at first sight....he must get off at the sight of her little one in those outfits moving like that...YUCK!!!!! The costumes are AWFUL!!! Yes, DD, those are sexy BURLESQUE outfits. What's next, kiddie pasties and tassle twirling?

The fact that these girls don't fully understand what they are doing (movements in combination with the outfits), is the problem in my opinion. They are not well-versed in the world of adult sexual politics, and should not be made into objects in it until they are old enough to understand it better and make decisions for themselves.

Mich said...

And I agree with Meissa. That dad was creepy as fuck.

Sick, yes.

Impressive movement though. Amazing how kids have such ability to move. No wonder the Chinese Olympic team just lost their medal because they faked the girls' ages.

There's a move in fitness circles to go to "primitive movement patterns"-

Kids are perfect movers. They pick things up off the floor with excellent form and tumble, crawl, and roll- what gymnasts do.

Gray Cook and his Functional Mobility group are the pioneers there.

This is so sad and twisted for those little girls. To be sexualized so young, and for what? The costumes are burlesque, and the teacher, designer, and parents should be ashamed of their work here. Girls that age need guidance as to what is appropriate and what is not. These adults have failed completely.
The guy is skeevy, and the woman in the video is all about lookin' good on TV. Fame whore, that's her.
I, too, hate the 220% thing. It's so stupid! There can only be 100%, folks, go back to school if you don't understand!!!

The costumes are WAAAYYY more offensive then the actual dance moves. That is just WRONG.

Kaela said...

I honestly have no problem with this. It wasn't "sexy"...they are 8 and 9 years old, and it was a hip-hop competition. The dance moves they were doing were technical hip-hop moves. As a young woman, I have seen my share of bumping and grinding; this was not it.

I danced for years, and have seen and worn some pretty extravagant things. But it only becomes a problem if you are wearing or doing these things outside of a dance context. Like he said, you don't send children swimming fully-clothed. You don't send them to a dance competition in sweatpants and a t-shirt. It's life. There are so many other gross wrongs happening in the world that I find it ridiculous that this is even an issue.

If the parents consented, it's no one's business to butt in and say that it's wrong. What if someone said to you that you coddled your children, or kept them too "safe" and protected from the outside world. One could argue that they would be less equipped to handle real-life situations if they've never seen them or spoken about them.

I think it's just silly to make such a fuss. It was a dance competition, and they were dancing. They were also INCREDIBLY talented. I say, "Good for them!"
