The people who were waiting to catch the boat going out were sent home too.It has become a big "blame the other guy" situation. The News says the real info was not given from the beginning. The gov't. knew what was going on but said BP wouldn't let them release the film and info. What do they mean, "wouldn't let"? There was a hell of a lot more oil escaping then they told us. The diamond saw broke in the middle of sawing the pipe off. Now they say that capping it will be even more tricky because of the jagged edge that was left when it was CLIPPED off. That is, whenever they get around to TRYING to cap it. They really are not moving too fast. You would have thought they had the cap ready to go as soon as the pipe was cut. The fine for oil leaks/spills is $1000/barrel. How are they going to figure that out? My advice to anyone with BP stock would be to get rid of it. I don't know how they can possibly come out of this!

The government fucks us in the ass and never ever tells us the truth about anything. We are supposed to support them and like the reaming they give us.
The worst part is seeing the poor animals suffering. Just breaks my heart.
I can't look at that. It's just too horrible. This, from the news today.."The volume turned out to be much closer to that figure than the 42,000 gallons per day that BP first estimated. Weeks later that was revised to 210,000 gallons. Now, an estimated 500,000 to 1 million gallons of crude is believed to be leaking daily."
Bayou was correct.
I'm so sick of the gov telling us only half of the story. I want to know the whole story. I'm not scared of the outcome. I hate being sheltered from the problems that arise. We have a right to know what is going on.
FUCK BP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FUCK BP FUCK BP FUCK BP FUCK BP FUCK BP FUCK BP WITH THAT BROKEN SAW BIT FUCK BP FUCK BP FUCK BP FUCK BP FUCK BP
the other day on my LJ i post a graphic with someone giving a figure to the bp logo.....everyone snag it and use it freely and as icons!
This disaster makes me want to vomit. How dare they harm our planet like this! I swear I wonder what the fat, bloated, millionaire moguls think is going to happen after they're done raping the planet for monetary gain. Do they think that they are going to be protected somehow? Are there space ships that we don't know about that will send the rich and famous to another habitable planet for them to pillage and destroy?
And I have no proper words to say towards our government.
Perhaps this will lead to a stronger push for alternative fuels. There's got to be something positive to come out of this. I refuse to believe that we're incapable of learning and changing....
BP is just faking trying to "cap the leak" trying to shut everybody up 'cause they know that only the relief wells will stop the leak-in August. Cynical fuckers.
It's devastating. Where does corporate greed stop? How much power do they hold that they can release false or incredibly skewed information to make themselves look better or just buy time? It really is mind-boggling for me to realize that they probably knew from the start, that this was apocalyptic calamity for who knows how many people and creatures, as well as the land and sea. People getting sick on the fumes? They are no better than the USSR when they conscripted men and boys off the streets and took them in buses out to Chernobyl to sweep up the radioactive ash, etc. without protective gear. They had people work that way, until they figured they had gotten as much out of them as possible without actually killing them. Officials then told them to get out and find their own way home. Many died of radiation sickness (off the record, of course).
I am often astounded at the hatefulness and greed that fuels big business. I think that those who in any way were a piece of the puzzle that brought this devastation to our gulf region need to be executed. There needs to be a real, measurable consequence for their actions or inactions. I don't care who they are or how high up they are. Heads need to roll.
My heart breaks over this situation. It's almost unbearable to even look at or think about. I don't want to be apathetic, but I feel helpless.
On the new tonite, they said, for every wildlife animal they save, there are 30 out there that died. That's probably skewed too. Makes you want to just beat the crap out of someone(s). Then I heard the BP bigwig made the statement recently that "he wanted his life back". Boy, he took a bunch of crap from the family of those who were killed on the rig. He is now spending MORE money to put out PR clips in which he apologizes, etc. They disgust me, all of them.
