All dogs go to..oops, not in Canada

An Anglican priest is facing the wrath of some in Canada's Christian community after she offered holy communion to a man... and his dog.

I don't get it. If there are no dogs in Heaven, who'd want to go there?

Although this link at snopes proves it to be fake, I still laugh every time I receive an e-mail containing these pictures ...

Loved the church 'debate'.

If there is a heaven, of course dogs go there. They belong more than most people do. My Mackie would be the gate greeter, licking everyone's hand and sniffing all butts. My cat? he was nasty, probably still in kitty purgatory.

well look, we're dealing with a religion where priests molest little boys and other priests, including the future pope, hide and protect those priests....but they think women in the clergy ARE EVIL! we're not dealing with things that make sense here....

oh and anne rice has quit christianity, though she still believes in christ....

I read that. I never knew she was into it.

oh fuck yeah, she made a huge deal like 10 years ago or so that she was turning her back on her regular writings and was going to devote her life to the lord and she moved to AZ or NM or somewhere out there and became the full christian whack job....

I'm still a Christian. Still a Catholic, and I will be for life, despite the scum that abused or still abuses children, and those who condone or turn a blind eye to this despicable behavior. The overwhelming majority of Christians I have met, or know, are good people. It is the hierarchy of the church that has made it a haven for those who would do these things. They will have to answer for this eternally, as they have not only injured people directly, but have damaged the church as a whole, maybe for all time.
I believe, no matter what anyone may tell me, that dogs and cats do go to heaven. How could they not?

I was told years ago by a nun that dogs did not go to heaven because animals do not have souls.

That was enough for me. I don't believe in any of that mumbo jumbo bullshit.

Oh, there most defintely are dogs in heaven.

What a bunch of bullshit. I know some churches around the world have that saint pet day. So you can get any animal blessed. I believe in Ny city they do this.

the catholic church by me has a 'bless the animals' day.....

isn't there something in the bible about all god's creatures??

Our dogs have gone to church for blessings. Our favorite priest used to have his golden retriever Byron with him in church for mass. Byron was a failed service dog trainee who was deathly afraid of lightening, so he wasn't in church for service reasons. Father Rich also let me take small containers of holy water to bless one of our cats who was very sick at the time. He told me he would certainly be doing that himself if it was Byron who was sick.
I apprecite that not everyone's experiences with Christians have been positive, but trust me, my experiences with non-Christians have certainly not been positive, either. I choose not to negatively judge the majority by those who havenot been shining examples of humanity, and I would not dismiss their belief systems as "mumbo jumbo", either. I prefer to live and let live.

Every living and breathing creature has a soul according to the bible. Also according to the bible souls die. However according to some religions, souls live forever and go to heaven or elsewhere. If human souls get the heavenly choice, every soul should.

If animals can't get into Heaven, humans shouldn't be able to get in either.

Yay for that priest in the story, I would support him.

I never thought Anne Rice was into religion anyway, just a way to sell her books.
Its okay, you dont have to believe in anything. too bad so many people *think they have to have a religion.

Double LY - that is hysterical! I have never seen anything like that -- I'm still giggling.

IF the goal of christianity is compassion--then if it makes someone feel better, give the dog communion! But being a catholic, lapsed, I can understand the outrage because I know how goofy they are about holy water and communion stuff. I was at a wedding once where the bride puked up her communion wafer and the priest blessed the garp before someone took it away to be buried or something.
Now that's some crazy shit! KooKoo for coco puffs!

Christina said...

The communion wafer is the body of Christ, as the wine is His blood. Even a "lapsed" Catholic should know that much.

sally said...

Yes Christina of course I know that's what catholics believe. It's so obvious I thought I didn't have to say it.

Makes me wanna cry. How dare they condemn dogs!!! Dogs are some of the best people I have ever met!! Dayum! I love the Rainbow Bridge poem. Its sweet and makes me cry but it show I wish it would really be. besides, who would want to be someplace that forbids dogs? Unless its a restaurant or hospital, which I understand, then they can suck it. Dogs are the most wonderful beings created. I truly believe that. Who else truly loves you, unconditionally? NOBODY! Thats who!!

That was very nicely said, Cristina. And that is coming from an atheist.
