Junk O Mine

I had this huge old vase sitting around. I paid too much for it a long time ago, but, it's real. I think it's like, one of those display jars from an old general store..anyway, I couldn't part with it when I moved and it's been in my way forever..but, I like it! I got it in my head that it could be a bird bath and I filled it with water so it's really heavy and put a fancy glass serving dish on top (another thing I have no business owning). I like it out there. It sparkles and the birds love it. It's gone through the worst storms without tipping. I'll be looking for some similar ones now..cheaper.

DD it's pretty are you sure it's junk cuz it
could pass for a piece of Rene Lalique.
Look on the bottom of the vase part for any
markings that have a bearing to France.
You'll be glad you held onto it all these years.
I think it's too posh to be from a general store
merchantile type of establishment. -Kiki :)

Very cool!! Did you put anything in the water to stop it from growing algae?

Thanks, Kiki, I'll check next time I clean it.

No, Ang, I just dump and clean it every week. I like playing in the hose. Heh.

I have been buying & stashing big vases like that at Goodwill for a while now to use at my daughters wedding reception. & after it I bet I donate them back cuz I wont use them! I have soooo many! Most I pay is about $2-$3 at Goodwill. If you break it, who cares? I like the relish tray you are uaisng there on top! I need to borrow that! I will return it to your garden after the wedding! LOL!

Pretty vase, DD!
It looks rather Deco era to me.

If you want to keep the water clear, next time you clean it, add a tablespoon of bleach or ammonia to it. The top plate will block any odor from leaching out.

I don't think its Lalique, but it is art deco and looks great out in your garden among nature. You are so artitis Pat.

I love vintage cut glass. I buy it whenever I hit a thrift store. Most of it is so pretty. It looks great in the garden like that!

I'm a sucker for anything Deco.

Kiki...I got it. Thanks! Isn't she the cutest little thing? Already discovering how good a hand can be!

Pat...I love everything Deco. I love the clean lines. But since I am a clutterer, I can't have Deco. There's no place to hide stuff. One day, I will realize that there is no reason to have all this stuff and I will get rid of it.
One thing that will help with this is I just found out that part of my back problem is my right hip is3/4 in. lower than the left. So that means that my right shoe will have to be built up and I don't need the shoes I have. I will keep the ones I like and think about having those built up. But that's for later. I will see if this works first.

I love it DD. You are so clever! You have given me the idea. My bird bath's top blew off last year, and they're so expensive to replace. I'm getting ready to dig out an old vase and probably put a saucer from a large clay pot on it.

Love Art Deco and love Lalique. Unfortunately, can't afford anything by him...

Great idea, DD. It looks so fresh, peaceful and harmonious.
