Open Post

Photo from Worth 1000. Bubble tomatos, pretty cool. Two of my dead tomatos are trying to make a comeback. They must be tough plants. Oh, and that baby bird I found finally took off this morning. Me..1. Cats...0. Today anyhow.

Sinus infection? Allergy? My gram always said if your nose itches, you're getting company.

i am really congested lately, but i have congestion problems on/off all year and the bridge of my nose has never itched like this....

i wonder if it means good or bad company....hmmmm.....

it is bugging the fuck out of me though...wish it would stop!!!! could be weather related i suppose....just weird.....

YAY for the maters! Yes, they are hardy little buggers. About a month ago we had some really hig winds and the wind blew over my heirloom plant and snapped the main stem nearly in half. I thought that plant was a goner for sure. But nope, it's just keepin on. Three days ago one section of this plant started to wither up so I cut it off and was about to toss it down the hill when I noticed all the gnarly nodules all along the stem. So I stuck it in a glass of water and by the end of the day it's all perked up and the next morning roots were already growing. So now I have a hydroponic tomato plant science experiment complete with a tomato abouth the size of quarter.

And it's fucking hot here. Been close to 100 all week and today's forecast is 101. There's no AC in this house. I'M MELTINGGGGGGGGG................

Hey all!

Hubs is still sick. His heart is fine and so are his gall bladder and liver. He is having a Cat scan tomorrow (Sunday). So I could use some thoughts in the positive light please.
The gastro dr is thinking it could be neurological in nature..something weird messing with him. I have a feeling it might be balance/inner ear related but this will take some time to find the culprit.
Thank goodness he has hardly taken a sick day in 20 years. He has over 3 years worth on the books.
Hopefully he will be well enough to go to work tomorrow cause he is driving me a little nuts..ROFL

My corn is doing great and the silks are turning brown..I just have NO clue when I am supposed to harvest. Any ideas??
I am going to make burgers on the grill with pepperjack cheese and grilled onions.
Potato salad and chips.

Going to try and relax.

Itchy bridge of the nose is a mystery. Is it sore? Like you are getting a rash?

If your nose itches you're going to kiss a fool. Or so goes the old saying. Look out!

I miss your gardening photos from last year, DD. I hope your garden is just as beautiful this year and no one is messing with it.

Hey...my mom thought it was a good idea to throw in a package of sunflower seeds with my pea seeds and now the sunflowers are taking over. I want to pull the sunflowers out, but do you think they can be replanted somewhere else in the yard? Such a shame to just throw them out...

miss tia said...

you can replant sunflowers....just be warned that they will look like they aren't going to make it, keep watering them and they will!

no it's not like i'm getting a rash...it's like the cartilage that is itchy....it's driving me nuts!

Miss Tia that happens to me on my chin sometimes. I HATE IT. Take an allergy pill--a Clariton or a Sudafed. Thats what I do and it always goes away. It's like an itch underneath your skin and the layer of fat there, feel like an itch right above the bone...I know it exactly! Annoying as hell...

DD said...

Corn..brown silk and puncture test. Puncture a kernel with a fingernail. If it spurts milky liquid, it's ready.

Tia is right about the sunflowers. I'm glad to find out I'm not the only person who's done that.

DD said...

escrow, wtf?? No air? OMFG!

Susan said...

Thanks! I'm going to try and pull some sunflowers tonight.

escrow said...

DON'T PULL THEM!!! Dig em out gently :)

Ya know, in theroy the mixed planting should work. The sunflowers act as stakes for the peas to grow on and they would also help shade and protect the from the hot sun. Dunno?

miss tia said...

yes, dig them out gently!!!

sunflowers would make a good stake for beans, peas, etc provided they were at their mature height....you could also save stalks at the end of the year and use them as stakes the following year....they are sturdy as hell!!! natural recycling!!

i am on a variety of allergy meds....i took 2 benadryl at bedtime last night and that's about when it started!!! it's really annoying as fuck....i've already scratched a bare spot on the bridge of my nose...

I started getting sick last Saturday. Coughing, chills, body aches, and a major headache. I thought as usual I would just let it take it's course but thought maybe I had West Nile Virus. The weather has been miserable hot and the mosquitoes are vicious.
By Wednesday I couldn't breathe. I couldn't exhale but only inhale slightly. Off to the Care Station I drove.

Turns out I have pneumonia and sinusitis. They were pretty concerned when I got there because my blood oxygen was at 86 and I drove myself. They gave me oxygen and an Albuterol breathing treatment which brought it up.. I'm on a Z-Pack, prednisone, and an Albuterol puffer. My ribs and stomach hurt so bad from coughing. I'm getting better but not even close to 100%. Only I could get pneumonia in the Summer.

I'm going to a birthday party for a friend's teen, so I've made a reuben dip to take. I don't like sauerkraut, not a huge fan of corned beef nor Thousand Island dressing, so the chances of me finishing off what the rest leave behind is next to zero...LOL

It's hot again today and the party is outside. Kill me now.

OMG, escrow, no air conditioning? I'd have to check into a motel! Does it get humid out in your neck of the woods? It's been 100+ here (Charlotte) for 2 wks. or so, and of course, humidity at 70-80%. I do believe I would prostitute myself for a/c. I can't believe I grew up in Norfolk w/out a/c for years. Really, I get a mild panic attack when mine breaks. The repairman can't get here fast enough!!

Oh, Tia. Does that 'itch' on your nose, also feel like it's 'traveling' up through your ear canals? I have that sometimes, I assumed mine is allergies.

I worked all day. It was frustrating as everything I tried to do took forever, and none of it was my fault. I just got left holding the bag.
I'm tired of being poor. My husband goes back to work on Monday, so hopefully the end is in sight. Everyone around me is going on vacation. One nurse is going to Rome, then England and Scotland, another is going to Hawaii, others are going camping, or one just returned from Estonia. I don't even really want to go anywhere right now (except the beach again, and that is not far away). I just want the financial freedom to know that I can relax and do that if I want to. Really. . . all I want to do is get the new shed built, fix up my home, and enjoy the life that we have. Apparently that is too much to ask for right now.
Escrow, I am sorry to hear that you don't have AC. Over the last few years we have purchased several units, and we now have four. One for each bedroom, one for the living room, and one spare that will probably go in the back room, but isn't there yet.
A few years ago, we took our minivan to scout camp to pick up our son. The AC was and still is out on that vehicle---it needs a new compressor, and as the vehicle is older, we just haven't spent the money. Anyway. . . traffic jam on the way there. Bumper to bumper and the bank thermometer on the way said 113. It was pure misery. I can relate.

Hey Peg,
That is the crap that has been going around all summer. I did not get pneumonia (Thank goodness) but I was sick for a long time. My friend DID get pneumonia..not enough to end up in hospital though.
Take it easy. This bug, whatever it is, takes awhile to let go of it`s grip.

Ok..So I have brown silks and I have to test a kernel. I will do that with one of them this morning.
One more stupid corn question..once you harvest corn off that stalk...that stalk is done producing, right? I can whack it down?
I need to plant for the fall and would love to have the space.

Thanks Pat.

Escrow!
OMG! I have to have at least the main AC in the house. It cools off the 1st floor. That way we can get some relief.
Try and get to a cooling station if it gets too bad.

Heidi - Did they look for an infection on hubs ?????

Month and half ago my husband was having a lower chest pain. Hub’s one stupid kidney doctor said it was gall bladder. His Gen Prac thought it might be heart (That was his diagnosis over the phone). Hubs goes to his office and the Doc says it is the appendix and it is about to burst! Doc said get to the hospital now. He’ll call ahead and get the surgeon ready. We get there and the physician on call in Emergency poked around a little and said he did think it was any of those things! He believes its an infection and ordered tests AND he was right FINALLY!!!!

I picked another bag of lettuce from my garden today. I've had great luck with it this year.

My family is playing in a softball tournament in few weeks, so we practiced today. I took a hopper to the wrist and I have a feeling I'm going to be unhappy tomorrow :(

sorry, I guess you have to have a FB page in order to see it. I have more pics of her at Oceans of Fun, I'm sure mom will post them. :)
