Remembering Tucker

Tucker was a sweet loyal best friend to Shelton for six years. I'm sorry Shelton, it's so hard to lose a dog. Dogs come in all sizes, but, their hearts are the same..extra large. There must be a special place dogs go. I can tell he was loved. RIP, Tucker.

Thank y'all so much for the kind words. Ugh, it has been so hard this last week without him.

My husband brought Tucker home for me back in 2004. At the time, I was in a deep depression that I just absolutely could not pull myself out of. We had been trying so hard to have another baby and I kept losing the babies over and over again. The doctors had told me that it just wasn't going to happen. It was so hard to hear that.

My husband came home from work and brought him in and laid him on the pillow beside me. Tucker weighed just a little over 2 lbs. He was tiny and loveable, JUST LIKE A BABY! That husband of mine is so smart. I know it sounds crazy to equate a puppy with a baby but somehow, it was what I needed to ease the pain.

Last year, we found out that Tucker had cancer. I freaked out because we don't have thousands of extra dollars to put into a dog. Thankfully, I live in small town USA with the most loveable veterinarian. He helped us cover a lot of the costs. Tucker got through it but was never the same. The side effects were severe arthritis, blind in one eye and extreme loss of energy. But everyday, he gave me everything he could. I can still see that little tail wagging even when he couldn't move anything else on his body.

Last Sunday night we came inside from shooting fireworks and it hit me like a brick wall. Tucker had not come to the door to greet me. I went to our bedroom and found him there, laying on his pillow. He looked peaceful. I really thought he was just sleeping really hard. It was just so sudden.

I do have a question for those of you that believe in spirits. Could Tucker still be here with us? I swear that I have seen him several times in the last few days. I am a little off kilter in the head, so it's totally possible that I'm seeing shit.

BTW, that picture is from one of our adventures at the lake. That dog loved to go on the boat and fish. We'd open the boat up on the water and Tucker would stand on the bow and let his big ol' ears flop in the wind.

Damn, I miss that freakin' dog!
