I took Lissa to the county fair last night and I expected a fair. It was nothing but 4-H exhibits. Lissa liked all the tame animals, but, there were no rides, no games, no cotton candy and tinny music and ferris wheels. I wondered where our county fair had gone? The cows and steers were walking around loose in the bovine barn so we skipped that. We did like the poultry barn though, all the chickens were so tame and cute. Then we went to the dollar store where the real action is. She lost a front tooth..really lost it. I had her draw a picture of the tooth for the tooth fairy and it worked. She got a dollar under her pillow.

That's bizarre. How can it be a fair without all the greasy food stands, cotton candy, rides, and a midway? I wonder what happened?
Glad you had a good time with Lissa and were able to see some of the animal exhibits. I'm also glad that you felt good enough to go.
Speaking of chickens. . . we got our first egg out of the new set of girls yesterday! It is so cute---brown and about a quarter of the normal size for eggs we are getting. I am thrilled to start the egg train from the "little girls" as I call them.
I agree. That is a really odd fair. If u would even call it that. Sounds more just like a livestock show. We have something like that up here for a week. For the farmers livestock 4h and crafters. They have rides shows and all the gressy food. Ava had a great time last year. She was exposed to so many new animals. Even got to touch a huge horse. This year she will be able to do more i hope. glad to see ur feeling a little bit better dd. Oh congratz lissa on the tooth. County where I grew up has the largest/ and oldest agricultural fair in PA. Horse (draft, riding), pony, dairy & beef cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep barns. Midway games w/ the creepy carnies, rides, all the typical fair food, farm equipment displays, grandstand acts, homeshow buildings w/ the homemade baked goods and all the 4H buildings. Use to love taking the kids there when they were little. Only made two requests of the kids. Wear your oldest shoes, cuz we're going to be stepping in cow crap and I wouldn't let them on those rides. Didn't trust the rides.
Our county fair is the same way, all livestock, no rides, very little food and political booths. As if anyone cares about who's running for county board?

Lissa is such a darling! She & her glasses make me smile everytime I see a pic of her, so cute. It's sounds like the pair of you had a good time despite all that was missing at the fair, good for you both. :) It's odd, not much of a fair without the rides, the food & the games. That's sad. The cattle wandering around their barn loose, yikes! I can remember when fairs used to be such a huge event & now it's like they're nothing more than an afterthought.
I think law suits have happened to county fairs. Most counties can't afford the insurance needed to put on such an event and with all the other expenditures expect to make a profit. In a lot of cases, they come out in the red.
We have a small company that travels around down here and they will set up in parking lots of places that have closed down. But I never see anyone there.
