Horn Backed spider

We found a Horn Back Spider in the wood pile last night. That was the only picture I could find on the internet that looked like the one we found. My camera won't take close ups. I watched it for about half an hour. I had Lissa run in and get my magnifying glass so we could see it better. It was quite interesting and the first time I have ever seen one in my life. At first, I thought it was a spider that had been caught in some kind of compound, like people use to seal windows. But, then I realized that thing was part of the spider's body. It had a horned shell on it's back. Hard like a tooth. It was way cool and built and interesting triangular web. It hooked the narrow end to the wood pile and the wide end to the fence. We were lucky to see it. We didn't disturb it and went elsewhere to gather fire wood. When I went to look it up, I thought about it and said, if I was naming that, I'd call it a Horned Back spider. It was close enough, I found it. Cool, eh?

No, not cool. It's death. I hate spiders. Woodpiles are where the recluses hang out. Be careful. Damn. I hate spiders. This summer has been a quick growing season for them apparently the heat makes them grow and reproduce quickly. So, be warned, when its gets cooler, they will be coming inside! BOMBS!!! Bombs! I bomb everywhere. Those things can cripple you or kill you. Out in the country we don't mess around when it comes to spiders.

The recluses hang out in the house. I found another one today, that makes 5 in a month. Tiny shy things. Drought affects them, they all like water. That's why you find them in bathrooms. They will get dormant when it's hot and dry and rain and humidity brings them back out. Bombs are not effective on spiders. Every hair on a spider is a smelling device. They easily smell it and avoid it. Sticky traps are best. Sorry, but, since you hate them, I thought I'd share info. I get it. I hate other things. I don't care for spiders in my house, but, I do enjoy them. Fascinating creatures.

oh..it's odd when Horn Backs are nearly extinct and Recluses are everywhere now. Just weird.

It's kind of a plain horn back. I just googled it and there is an array of patterns and colours. They ARE rather interesting. One of the most interesting spiders for sure.
This one's abdomen looks like a teddy bear.

I have this BugGuide.net bookmarked. Endlessly interesting.
