Dog bite controversy
source
A judge has ended the controversy over the family and supporters of a little boy who was badly mauled by a Pit Bull and animal rights groups who want to save the dog. The judge has spared the dog's life, under the condition that he never be adopted. He must be neutered, defanged, microchipped and kept in an animal facility center for life.
The little boy faces surgeries to repair his face, he suffered a broken jaw and broken eye socket among other wounds. An adult who was on the scene said the dog has a history of unprovoked attacks and she can prove it because he killed one of her dogs. A babysitter let the boy play to close to the dog. His parents are very lucky he wasn't killed.
There's the dog. I feel bad for the dog, I love dogs, but, I love kids more. That dog is never going to have a home, he'll spend his life in a cage and I can look in his eyes and tell..he is not a dog to be trusted. You can click that pic and tell me if you'd trust him. Some dogs are just not meant to be around people. In my opinion, he needs to be gently put to sleep with all the kindness someone can give him. There's something wrong with him. A good dog, even a mean dog, knows the difference between an adult and a child and that's the truth. The judge made the wrong call this time.

so instead of quickly putting the dog down, they are going to torture it essentially til it dies naturally? taking its teeth out & living in a cage with no human interaction? i think that will make him worse & i couldnt imagine an existence for it like that. who is gonna pay for a lifetime of an animal facility? what an ass that judge is. put the dog out of its misery. also when are people going to learn not to let their kids play or go around animals they dont know? what a situation.
When the Animal Rights Group gets the bills, the dog will be humanely put to sleep. It would be in his best interest. Sadly.
We had a situation this past weekend. A mom, child, and 2 pits were watching TV. Everything was quiet. Then for no reason 1 of the dogs attacked the child. The mom pulled the child away and locked them in the bedroom. She had to hand the child out through the bedroom window to EMS. The child died. The police came in with mom still in the bedroom and the dog still going crazy and shot it. The other dog was shaking in the corner. I'm so sorry about the child, but something seems strange there. I guess we would have to know the background of the dog to understand what happened.
WTF? @Jane. It seems these dogs and other breeds, but mostly Pitties, have a hair trigger. I hate that the poor child died. GD, I hate that. Pits are not for me. I am not a hater, and I know plenty are loveley animals. But I like my sweet doggies. My best friend just adopted her 2nd Pit. She put him thru obedience classes and he is in enrolled at The Ugly Dog Academy in LA. They are like a pittie, and other breeds sometimes, play group. Just so they can get some exercise and work out their energy. Those dogs are fg strong and need to run and play hard. They should be neutered as well. But that story is the worst. That dog was a hellian.
OMG, Jane OMFG! What a horror. WTF? My head is reeling from that story.
6:43:00 PM, Pits were bred to be children's babysitters, that's the kind of temperment they naturally have if raised right. Unfortunatly their jaw makes them good for those losers who fight dogs. I'd never be afraid of Pits in general. Any dog breed could lose it, if it's treated wrong or mentally off. The most dangerous breeds, IMO, are Dalmations, St. Bernards and German Shepherds. Pit bulls come in about last on my dangerous list.
Cheryl, you said it. No life for life. I feel so sorry for him and I wonder if he was previously mistreated to the point where he couldn't recover or if he's just off in the head. Either way, he sadly needs to be put down. I had a dog who was just nuts once. He was seriously dangerous and couldn't stop being agressive. I had him from birth, he was never mistreated, he was just cray cray. He went to a junk yard in Des Moines. It was that or the big sleep shot. He weighed 200 pounds. No joke. He was just vicious. He bit me all the time.
ps..he had the same look in his eye as that Pit in the story. Uhh uhh. I recognize that look.
I never thought St. Bernards were aggressive but I have been reading about them. I guess I always thought about the St. Bernard in Peter Pan. Big and lovable.
I wish pit bulls would be called by their real name--American Standard Bulldogs. Pit bull sounds just like what they have become--fighting dogs for idiots who have no heart. They are bred with killing in mind. The breeders take the worst traits of the dogs and multiply them. The breeders are the ones that should be put down. Personally, I'm more afraid of German Shepherds.
When my sister and I were babies, my mom had 2 Boston Terriers who were our babysitters. They would keep us from leaving the area we were in.
I had a Saint for 13 years. I loved her, but, she was agressive. I bought a farm because of her. She was wonderful to us, but, not with strangers. It was one of her pups that was crazy. I have no idea why. We never even played agressive puppy games with him. He was just born mean. Some dogs are and it happens in every breed. But, when they weigh 200 plus, you have to be very careful and decide how to handle it. Any big dog needs special handling, I think. Personally, I love Pits. I've had them, rescued from bad situations, and they never posed a problem. German sheps, are another story. Very dangerous dog. I would not want to be around one I didn't know.
Oh and Dalmations? Those fuckers have WAY too much energy for the normal person to deal with and they bite just for fun. They bite hard too. I do not like those fuckers. At least German Sheps have a reason to bite, they're territorial and protective. They take it too far sometimes, but, they make great guard dogs. Fucking Dalmations just suck. I have no idea why anyone would want one. I think any sense has been bred out of them.
PPS, I just noticed the dog in that story doesn't look healthy to me. His back bone sticks out too much and he looks like he has a skin condition. It's fairly clear he was on a chain when he attacked. I don't think he was being treated quite right.
I had a lovely little poodle and I loved him to bits. He was never mistreated but as he got old he turned into a real little shit and took up biting people who came too close. Dogs are unpredictable and I don't trust them, I like dogs a lot but I always keep a respectful distance because you just don't know.
