My vacation starts today!!!!!!!

Sing it Pips! Today, my wonderful daughter is taking my granddaughter...for a week. A week!!! A week with no kids! A week of eating real food! A week of peace and solitude! I am going to watch old movies in French, with no subtitles needed and sleep in the middle of the day!!

I'm celebrating the day with my favorite song in the whole world. Midnight Train To Georgia by Gladys Night and the Pips. And I never wanted to be Gladys because the Pips had the better part.

"And I'll be with him..(I KNOW YOU WILL) on that midnight train to..(LEAVIN' ON A MIDNIGHT TRAIN..WOO WOO!)"

What's your favorite song? If you had to pick only one song in the world, what would it be?

When I sing this song I crank up the volume and give it everything I've got (no shame) but I don't belong on Idol. It's on my top 200. From that era I still love songs like 'We Are Family', Fairytale, It's Too Late, Tapestry and lots more.

I love music so much that I couldn't easily narrow it down but my fav albums are probably Exile on Main (stones) Kamakiriad (Donald Fagen) Court and Spark, plus Jimmy Buffett (don't judge me) most Steely Dan, all Van Morrison, CSN, Joni, all Woodstock era.

For best eye candy these days, I love watching Train's Hey Soul Sister - he's so good looking I wish I could hook up with him (song's good too)

Your guys summer vacations are so long!! Jeez, my kids aren't even out of school until the last Friday in June. I can't imagine trying to keep kids entertained for 3 whole months, that would drive me insane. Enjoy your week off!

Into the Mystic by Van Morrison is my favorite song. I heard it in some movie 25 years ago and didn't know who sang it (hard to believe I wouldn't know his voice). At the time, Wherehouse Records had an ad campaign where you'd get something free if you sang a song to one of their employees and they couldn't name it. I didn't care about the free thing, I just wanted to know who sang it, so I went in there and sung what I could remember. The employees didn't know, but a customer did. I got whatever free thing they were offering, but don't remember what it was lol.

I've got favorite songs for different moods. My crying song is Crazy by Patsy Cline. My get energized song is Devil Went Down to Ga. by Charlie Daniels band and my singing song is Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie by Don Mclean. I also have some songs by Jerry Jeff Walker that just make me smell and laugh. I like fun songs.

Susan, ya'll must get seasonal long breaks, like quarters. All schools have 180 days of school. I think I would like the way your school days run, more rest time during the year and less down time in the summer. And we don't really get 3 months off in the summer because we get out the last week of May and go back usually the 1st week of Aug. (which is the hottest time ever) and not after Labor Day.

OT, but interesting. My sister has Parkinsons and is on a new med. A side affect of this med is humming/singing. I have never heard of this before. If a song comes on the radio, we will hear it for the rest of the day. Commericials with songs, we hear the commercials. She even hums while she is eating. Wierd! Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Me and Bobby McGee

Have loved it with all of my heart since the first day I heard it in 11th grade.

X! My favorite LA Punk band forever and always and the song is "True Love." Here is a rare video of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeFLHarwPjY

That's a tough one because there are so many amazing songs!! But I think if I had to pick one, it would be Black Mariah by Todd Rundgren!

Things Have Changed- Bob Dylan

"People are crazy and times are strange
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed."

It was a toss up between that and Save Me by Aretha Franklin.

I crank up the music so on my ear buds I can't hear when i take them out. When I play music inside the windows vibrate. My music has to be loud.

Then I close the blinds and dance my ass off. LOL

It's the best remedy in the world when you're feeling anxious or depressed.

ACK... I have to add TB Sheets by Van Morrison too. One of my all time favs. There's just too many.

I have many. I like Paul McCartney, and have always liked Mull of Kintyre. But I also like Silly Love Songs and With a Little Luck. Stevie Wonder My Cherie Amour is another favorite. Amy Winehouse Back to Black is another one.

This is one I couldn't wait to sit down and read. Y'all picked some good ones!!

Wiggy, for sure. I just cranked it and blasted it. I love all those you named. What's wrong with Jimmy?? Margaritaville anyone? I fucking LOVE Soul Sister, are you kidding me?

Dirty Disher said...

PS, Wiggy, I missed Tapestry. OMG, I love Tapestry!!

Susan, it seems like fucking years. At least I don't have to be up and civil at 6 am.

Cut, oh, yeah, that's a good one. I love that song too. It reminds me of being a kid when the world was all ahead of me. Great choice.

Briezy, I totally forgot about Mystic. Thanks, I've got it on now. Good one for sure.

Dirty Disher said...

Jane, all good ones. I dig Patsy, but, she makes me sad too. Jerry Jeff Walker? Who doesn't love The Pickup Truck Song?? He's awesome and real country the way it's supposed to be. Not that stupid new country. Good choices all.

Whenever I hear something that I think is amazing I get these waves of chills or shivers down my whole body. It starts at my shoulders and then goes all the way to my feet. It's so crazy. Midnight Train does it to me.
One of my all time favorite songs is Janis Joplin's Summer Time.
I also like "Wicked Games" by The Weekend.

Dirty Disher said...

Jane, it's sort of OT, it's about music. I HAVE heard of people who do that for unknown reasons. I actually think it's cool, but, you have to wonder what's in her head? It's fascinating. Now I want to read and find out more. Coming from a musical family, we have all sorts of odd musical things going on. Some people can actually see music as a color. Have you heard of that?

Dirty Disher said...

Sally, you and me both. We know who wrote it, but, it was Janis who made it what it is! I do a good version of that on my git. I may get some balls and record it and put it on here. I dearly love that song.

Dirty Disher said...

Meissa, you win the Internet today, for me. You know I love me some Coons. That is too cute and look how polite he is! Eating cat food. Gawd, they love cat food!

Dirty Disher said...

Mary Mary, believe it or not, that song is already marked in my favs! I came across it awhile back and loved them. That git is amazing, they should be way more famous. I swear you and I are both punk princesses. My kids couldn't even break me of my love of punk! We need to actually meet someday and go hear some undiscovered genius'.

Dirty Disher said...

Thumbs up for Black Mariah by Todd Rundgren!

Pan, anything by Bob Dylan or Aretha Franklin! Two of my all time favs. If I had to choose only 1 album to have forever, it would be a toss up between Nirvana, Unplugged and anything Aretha. Gawd, Aretha is the fucking Queen!

But, shit, I can't leave Janis out! I'd have a hard time between Janis and Aretha. Wow.

Dirty Disher said...

PS, I had to go look up TB Sheets by Van Morrison. It's the only one so far I wasn't familiar with. I like it. I wasn't a huge fan of his, but, I always like some of his stuff. Maybe I should listen to more. I like this bluesy sound a lot.

Dirty Disher said...

Christina, I feel bad, but, I can't atand Paul or any of that Wings stuff. It makes me cringe. Mull of Kintyre is the best of him though. We can agree on that. But, I do love the hell out of Stevie Wonder and Amy Winehouse. Amy was right up there with Aretha and Janis and Back To Black is a classic that will be loved forever.

Dirty Disher said...

Casey, of course you do! It was probably one of your lulabyes. LOL.

This has been one of the best threads for me. I just love knowing what you guys listen to. You make me remember stuff I loved and have nearly forgotten. Thank you all, this has been so much fun. I can't believe how much I have in common with you.

Dirty Disher said...

Casey, Summertime does it for me too, but, only by Janis. It's weird, but, lots of people have done Summertime and well too. But, there's something about the way Janis did it. OMG.

I had to look up Wicked Games. Another new one to me. I liked it, but, not enough to pay for it. I'll listen to some more by them though, I like his voice.

Dirty Disher said...

BTW, Casey J, thank you, from the bottom of my tired brain. I love you.

Holy crap! Favorite song? U kidding me? Where do I start? Currently, it would be something by Queen. They are killing me right now. My old 2 cd set of their greatest hitts has made a return and I am loving it. Freddie was sex on a stick. I dunno, he just was. He had "IT". No denying that. Maybe Radio Gaga, I really love the Highlander theme "Who wants to live forever?" They kill it on that one, Bryan May is a genius, GD, how can we pick just 1 song. I love Def Leppard, Styx, GnR, I seriously love Paul Stanley's Love Gun. And will be seeing KISS w/Def Lep in August. I am going to Motley Crüe w/Alice Cooper in a couple of weeks. I have never seen Alice. I know, I am lame. But it's Crues last shows. I really like them on stage. My gawd, woman. This is an impossible task. Cuz who doesn't love them some Tiny Dancer? Billie Jean? Beautiful People? Even Gangsta's Paradise? I mean, I am all over the place , musically. I love it all. Xo

Janice and I share the same home town. Just blocks away...
My mom once told me that everyone called her "Pig Joplin". What a bunch of unimaginative fucks.

Nirvana, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Elton John---- I can't stop!!!!

I knew you would love the coon eating!

For me, Red Barchetta by Rush has more meaning now that i can drive a stickshift!! I crank it and gas that pedal. But damn, i love me some Erasure. I love to hate you. And their Abba covers. Shit. Gotta get home and listen some.
I've been on a Kansas kick lately. Loooove Song for America. And old Genesis. Peter Gabriel was a cutie in his 20’s. We need more paper, the list is too long.

Pat, Take care of yourself and take cover if it gets bad. I see there are major storms moving through Nebraska and Iowa that are producing tornados.
