One of the Madonna shrines, across the street to the East. At night they have solar spotlights on her. I just think of how Christians stole the Goddess and turned her into Mother Mary. And I laugh. I am impressed with the twin Arborvitae guarding her. This is so close to my new house, I wonder if I should plant some? They either do well or look like shit for years. So, I dunno. I need to do a post on Guntown yard ornament, OMG. They love their Madonna and it's popular here to bury an old bathtub halfway and put her in it, like a shrine. It's fucked up.
Abandoned house two blocks North. It's big, it used to be a nursing home. It's creepy. The vines and volunteer trees are taking it. It used to be pretty, when I was a kid. It holds a lot of death vibes though.
I make a right here and I'm home, but, that is the house I own, right there. I don't own that garden, but, they don't plan to ever build there. It's vehicle storage and a veg garden. They're my cousins, but, I don't hang out with them. Guntown has specific groups. This whole four block area, in each direction, is my relatives. We get along, but, it's a different group. It's hard to explain. Guntown is divided into several groups of Guntowners. They all stick up for each other in a fight though. As you can imagine, with all these little groups, you get some disruption now and them and it has to be sorted. The Beer Can alley group is friendly, but, pretty bad ass. No one really fucks with them.
The Godfather of Guntown sign. He needs to mow or put it up higher. I think it's hilarious. Now, this is a different bunch of Guntowners. This is the Casteel bunch. They are well known around here. They're rough, they really are, but, when there's a fight, it's usually them fighting amongst themselves. That has to be handled by them, unless a woman is getting pushed around. Then other Guntowners step in in. If an outsider is starting something with them, wrong or right, Beer Can Alley will back these guys up. They interact and get along, but, it's still a separate group. The Casteels are good people, they're just rough.
Lissa took that pic. Can you find Brody in the junk? He's a good boy and I think he's pretty happy, but, I've never seen him off his chain. I'd like to take him for a walk. I walk slow, I think he'd like it. When Lis was taking these pics, someone came out, all puffed up, then they saw it was Lis and went back in. I'll get some more pics of these houses next time I stop there to pick up Kaden. I like these people and I feel comfortable sitting and talking with them. I grew up with the older ones, so none of the shenanigans bother me, I know what's behind it and how far they'll go. But, I feel more at home when I get back to the alley.
Drivein' home, boring. You can almost see my house and this one. But, not. Trees.
Home. Usually, I repaint that door every Summer, because it gets scuffed up. But, I'm moving, so, fuck it. I like people complaining about the vines too. You can duck. I'm short, they don't bother me. I like opening the door to Humming Birds in my face. I feel like the vines are hugging me sometimes.
There a weird little building behind me here. They boarded the window and made it vandal proof. It looks abandoned, but, meetings are held there. I don't know who 'they' are and I don't care. I mind my own business. If it's not the KKK, who cares what they're up to?
Big Eggplant I grew. I'm just braggin' now. It's beautiful, isn't it? I have some small ones too. I'm going to make Eggplant Lasagne. It my favorite food in the whole world. If I had to choose my last meal, it would be Eggplant Lasagne. Lissa won't eat it, so it will take me 4 or 5 days to eat the whole pan. But, I will, happily. It's even better when it's leftovers.
Curly hot Peppers. When they turn fire red or orange, I pick them and tie them up with string and hang them on a rack by my stove. They look real purdy there. When I'm making soup or stew or something, I grab one, break it and let the seeds fall into the pot. I throw the husks away. You don't need many. They're fairly hot, but, won't hurt you. I don't fuck with the ones that hurt you. I leave them alone. I see no point.
Green, red, orange, yellow and black peppers out there. Peppers did well this year. They're everywhere. I tucked them in with flowers and veg plots. You know how they sell those red peppers for more than green ones in the store? They're the same thing. You just let the peppers sit on the vine and they'll turn all kinds of colors. But, when they go red, they don't have the same crunch as greens. I like the greens. The black ones taste just like green ones. What ever, they're pretty, fun to hunt for and I like snacking on them fresh off the plants. I got some BIG ones this year.
Even the garbage garden is doing well. These were just extra seeds I had, so I put them in any empty container sitting around the garbage cans at mom's house.
Volunteer Solomon's Seal that came up by mom's porch one year. Now it comes up every year and droops pretty green berries. I want a start off of it, but, I haven't figured this plant out yet. It's an odd one. There are many wild and rare plants on this place. I have protected them. I would love to take them with me, but, they're so delicate.
Mom's stuff. I lined her porch with matching pots of Impatiens. She put them out under a tree, some of them died. Now she has a frog and an angel. It makes no sense to me, but, it's her shit, so fuck it.
Me sitting on mom's porch, Lis riding her bike in the street. Home, for now. That was a tour of Guntown, boring, I know. But, there's more. It gets much more interesting, but, it's hard to get pictures, if you know what I mean. There is a certain line you don't cross here. A boundary to be respected. But, I move freely between these groups, so I think I can get some pics.
My door at night. Hello, Trumpets. Thanks for blooming all Summer long. It drops big Trumpets on people's heads and freaks them out. Then, the ground is covered with orange Trumpets and the vine just keeps making new ones. Orange is my favorite color. I reckon it IS a bit witchy and creepy at night, but, you get used to it. I have some yellow rope lights behind it so you can see. That's a home made Guntown porch light, I guess.

That was fun thanks for the tour. It was a nice distraction from boring work. Are you hot there? It's 85 here but it feels like the pits of hell the humidity is intense.
Hot as flame and humid. You can't breathe outside.
Hey, do you know any of the Casteels or Hines boys?
Your garden is doing fantastic! All that humidity we hate, the plants love. I have to tell you a creepy very short story. There's an old lady here in this town, I don't know how big. But it's a nice midwest farm town. Rich areas, mostly middle of the road normal people. No ghetto. Anyways. This woman is a hoarder. She lives in a house till it's full of so much shit that she has to move. So, she buys another and starts over. Boards up all the openings in all her previous homes. She has quite a few houses in town she's done that to. I pity her family one day dealing with all her shit. Might be easier to just burn them down. But she's still at it. Who can afford to keep doing that? She is really burning thru some cash. And she has to keep all the properties maintained. Mowed etc. I hope she has no family. I hope the state takes over and bulldozes all of it. Insanity. If she was my mother? I dunno. Can that be fixed by anyone or anything? She has a bad mental illness. IMO.

I don't know, I know it's a serious disorder. They say it's fixable, but, she needs help. Some of those people hoard their own garbage and shit in bags. Literal shit. So, who knows what she has in those houses. It might be valuable, it might be her own poop. It sounds like someone will call the fire department when she dies. We can do that here. They burn them for practice.
The water usage restrictions are getting very tight here and we are doing what we can to conserve. I thought alot about planting some veggies - but now Im glad i didn't. I'd probably get the water police called on me. I keep a bucket in the shower and dump that on my existing plants and flowers.
It looks like the new place is on a corner lot. Will that bother you? Some people like it, but you are pretty visible on the corner. Is that where you thought you might use arborvitae?
Connie, I don't know how you put up with that. It would drive me nuts.
Angie, I love a corner lot. No one on one whole side, it's awesome.
PS, no, it's pretty private there, the trees hide us. I'll take more pics from near the house out.
Yes so sorry so slow to respond. Not supper familiar. Scott Hines, and a younger Casteel boy I don't remember his first name.
