I have a question

Who thinks we're all going to get Ebola? The first Nebraska case came in today and that's pretty close to home for me. He's a journalist who caught it in Liberia. So, hey, come on over to the Midwest! Right? Ebola seems to be all over the US now and no one seems to know how many people are exposed. They have no fucking idea. So, I think we're all going to eventually get Ebola. It's the new AIDS. What do you think?

We don't all have AIDS. At least I don't.

I don't either, but, only because I hate sex.

I have been worried about it ever since it started to spread in Africa. The means of containment have been so poor, and the facilities they have to treat or administer what care they can, were overwhelmed so quickly. There also is a complete breakdown in communication regarding how this is transmitted. Many people over there just don't believe what they are told by health personnel. So, it spreads like wildfire.
I felt like it was only a matter of time before it came here. There is a high likelihood that it will spread here, too. Not because of lack of understanding from Americans, but by lack of enforcement of borders, as well as our administration not preventing admission of those from heavily infected countries. We could contain it for the most part, but with potentially exposed people coming over the borders, and people coming by plane, who are leaving areas heavily exposed, I just don't see how it can be avoided.
Unfortunately, my husband, son and I all work heavily with the public.
I wonder if the administration is dragging their feet because this is part of a plan they are party to? It is all those empty coffins and internment camps that make me wonder.

Stay away from other people's body fluids and you should be good. That's a general policy of mine. I'm not worried.

I think for Christmas Im going to buy my family matching hazmat containment "outfits". Wait maybe I should buy them before Christmas and that way we can take a holiday card photo in them!

Im a little worried.

It's the contradictory information that is bothersome. Officials say no problem, can't easily get it. Yet they do a piss poor job with the guy in Dallas and his "family" for containment. The medical people meanwhile wear those containment suits and spray each other down. He was in a house with at least 3 others living there, and odds are he exchanged bodily fluids with the girlfriend, and she and the kids are still A-OK as are, thank heaven, those who were in the ambulance after him and the ambulance crew. So, I don't know. There is a huge difference from what they say and what they do. Fewer people have gotten sick than I would have expected so far.

What I do know is my doctor told me not to get sick. I have been sick like you, Pat, with I believe very close to some of the same stuff. I damned near died this year. I really try not to get colds or the flu. At some point, flue becomes the friend of those really sick, allows them to die. But for me, not quite yet. I'm not ready most of the time.

I admit to being a little nervous. I don't touch people, as a general rule, so I'm okay there. It's the touching things that infected people may have touched that freaks me out a bit.

I went to the "Helpful Guide to Ebola". What I found most interesting was the comments section. I have already (weeks ago)read the information on infected monkeys in a research facility passing ebola to other monkeys, though there was no direct contact. I don't know if this means there was a lack of skill in cleaning around the sick monkeys (before they died), and so, infectious material was transported manually to the well monkeys. . . or if, as some have concluded, it actually showed airborne transmission.
The trouble is that there is a tendency to oversimplify the issue of transmission. With an incubation period of 21 days, it would be possible, I would think, for a person to be shedding virus when they don't yet realize they have this infection. In other words, they might have a low-grade temp, and a few aches and pains, or a headache. Possible signs of the flu, or a cold, and we are entering into that season. I have been out and about a number of times when I am in the beginning stages of something because it just doesn't seem to be a serious illness I am experiencing, and will go away on its own. Add to that the stigma and weight of a name like Ebola, and you would probably have a lot of people who are out and about in the beginning stages, in total denial of the fact that they are infectious with a deadly virus. All an infectious person would have to do, is scratch their butt, or wipe their sweaty brow, or lick their finger, and touch produce, or some object that you would then touch, and rub your eyes, etc. Voila! Ebola transmission, as I understand it.
Also, let me add to the nightmare a little bit, here. . . even the best preventive gear can have microscopic holes in it. I suspect that is how transmission of the virus to those who were treating patients, occurred. Even the best things, can sometimes be imperfect.
A nurse who works in a hospital in Spain, and had taken care of a priest who died of Ebola, is now sick. My understanding is that she cared for him in a hospital environment. She came down with a fever while she was on vacation, and has now tested positive for the virus with two tests. How many were inadvertently exposed, there?
It's just hard to say how this will go, and how readily we, and the rest of the world will be able to contain the disease.
Also, there is no more Zmapp. That is what was used to treat the two Americans who were brought back. I had read that there wouldn't be any more for another month or so, but I just listened to Anderson Cooper say it may be several months. That is very bad news.

There is that other one too, that Marlboro virus? It mimics Ebola and is becoming a problem. Also that D-something respitory virus is in our school district, we got notices. If you have a kid, kids are filthy. They get everything. I know when I get sick, it's serious now. I try and stay clean, but, the kid, man, the kid. I swear, all kids do all day is touch snot and lice and cooties and fuck all. They gross me out.

Marburg virus, I think. A man died of that in Europe, maybe? recently.
Yes, the Enterovirus is very scarey, also.
My husband thinks I am paranoid, or obsessed, but I feel I am just preparing us as best I can. How can I do that if I don't stay current on what is happening.
I know what you are saying about trying to stay well. As I get older, it becomes more obvious that I get sick easier, and am more ill when I do have something. Bummer. Hope you stay well, Pat.

I'm worried about this 'flaccid paralysis' virus that's going around, mimicing polio in little kids. That shit is scary :(

Christina,
Part 1.
I too have wondered about the FEMA camps. We have one near us. It was an AFB. Our company actually did the new plumbing and HVAC in the living quarters, back in 2008-2009. I asked our HVAC mgr. if they were required to add gas valves in the ceilings of the living areas, just kind of joking, but not joking, he said, yes they did, and it was as spec'd. I said are they for heat? He said, no the HVAC are separate. So...we are f'd. The gov't knows this. It was even spoken at a WH press conference y'day. "We are Fucked". *Look it up on YouTube. Hot mic, but the guy still said it. Was it said deliberately? Was it a warning? Or was it an accident.? I have never seen so many "hot mic" stories in my life as there have been with this administration.

Part 2.
So, I kind of wonder if they aren't deliberate. Staged. And a woman, says, "If this DC case is verified, I am going..." Its hard to tell what she is saying. It is something about going "off the grid" or w/e. A plane is a long metal petri dish. Don't fly if you can avoid it. And they are talking about travel when they say "We are Fucked"! Then they proceed to joke about kissing and one guy says "I don't wanna kiss you!". It's not funny. That judge in Dallas was the most foolish of all. Walking into that guys apt, in his street clothes! Wandering back and forth in and out. Then riding for 45 minutes with the guys family, in a car! Then he goes home, in the same clothes and shoes! A concerned mother filed a CPS charge against him for putting his small daughter at risk of death. It's a big deal. His car needs fumigated or burned up. Cuz nobody was protected in the car. The clothes needed to be destroyed and the shoes, walking thru the guys vomit? Jesus. I mean, a NBC journalist got it just by helping disinfect a car. So, it is spread by water vapor. which is just like our breathing. Did you see the facility janitors at the guys apt? They were cleaning up the guys vomit on the sidewalk with a f'g hose! No hasmat suits, nothing, just spraying it into the gutter! Therefore, everybody that was near it, got the vapor, will get Ebola, anybody walking thru the vomit will track it all over the f'g place and home and work, stores...everywhere! And the sidewalk is a hot spot, even if it looked clean. It isn't. I am scared of this. I had to take my husband to the ER last week and he had a 3 day stay. I asked about the staff being scared of Ebola, they said no. I only saw 1 person wearing a mask and it was a visitor. Smart lady! I hate hospitals! It's being scattered all thru this country & the world on purpose. If it gets bad enough, they will detain anyone that's even got a cold. Obama just signed a law for that! FEMA camps and coffins...here we come. This is the Great Purge. Read the Georgia Guidestones. It was placed there by Ted Turner and Bill Gates and their legion. It states the earth should be "depopulated" to a very specific low number. They have the power to do it too. Bill Gates has been vaccinating kids in Africa for how long? LOOOONG time! Or was he giving them a disease that mutates into Ebola? Either way the "Vaccine" they tested on the 1st 2 US cases did work. But strangely, there is NO MORE vaccine? Fuck that shit! Hell yes, there is more. It's just not for the population. It's for "Them", TPTB. They tested it, they know it works, then they never made more? Bullshit! And O not stopping passengers incoming from affected countries is akin to homicide! I don't trust 1 f'g thing from this lying administration. They want a race war, pestilence, illegals swamping the system, also spreading disease. And think about this. O did that Bergdahl trade and let those 5 known terrorist generals go free. They said "We will see you in New York". then ISIS appears right after. How convenient. Then last week an allied plane "accidentally" drops arms and food supplies into and ISIS camp. My ass! This is all f'g planned. It may well have backfired. But the open border allowed in anybody with any disease, that was deliberate. And its not stopping. Fuck all of DC! Yea, they are "FUCKED"! by their own hand!

I think the WHO is very happy about this.

They could have ended all this weeks ago. Just by closing the borders of the affected countries. No plane, no ship in or out.

Instead they let everybody travel freely. Because some ebola-panic or even better, outbreak, will help their friends in the pharmaceutical industry to cut testing schemes and make billions.

It started with abusing negroes for untested medicine, and it will get worse.

This is just another catastrophe caused by greed.

Wow, Rox!!! I had not heard about the judge going into that apartment, etc. That is some serious lapse in judgment, and foolhardy behavior afterwards.
It's hard to believe how little thought people who should know better, are giving this disease.
What you posted about the "camp" near you is absolutely chilling. I don't know what is going to happen here, but I just know it's bad.
As a part of my job, I am supposed to do an annual "fit test", which means that I am fitted for a special mask in case of a need for personal protective equipment. We also receive training in infection control practices and use of protective equipment, but with the emergence of Ebola, I would expect more training. You have to drill on these concepts continuously, to make it second nature, in order for it to truly be effective. I would be very concerned if Ebola came to our hospital, and would be looking for a specific plan to be in place.

So the 2nd person just diagnosed lives less than 10 minutes from me and is 4 blocks from Billy's preschool. Everyone is freaking out and I'm not gonna lie, I'm getting a little nervous.

Yikes, Erin. I know we are not supposed to freak out, according to the authorities (who are probably holed up somewhere safe, and nowhere near those who are sick) but they can't really believe that we will just all stay calm about all this, can they? That's just silly. This is important, and big, and dangerous. The disease may not spread any further, but it certainly has the potential to spread, and the nurse who is now sick took the best precautions we have. It is scarey, and I wish you and your family continued health.
