Little girl kitty...

That's my kitchen table right now. Wanna come over for dinner? No? I didn't think so. A year ago I would have been appalled, now, I'm like, ehhh, fuck it. I've become, OMG, a cat person.

Meet Gypsy. Lissa named her that because she was a wandering creature. I liked it because it's a Stevie Nicks song. What ever. Here's how we got another cat (something I would have said hell no to a month ago). My mother called me and said there was a stray cat, that had crawled into the yard, and it was dying and she wanted me to take it to the vet and have it put to sleep. I went over and got the carrier and it smelled like death. It was bad. I covered my nose and lined my van with an old shower curtain and threw an old sheet over the whole mess. I mean, it was BAD. I thought whatever was in that carrier was already dead or damn close to it. I didn't want to look in it. Stray cats come and go here all the time. We do the best we can by them, but, sometimes, it's too late. My mother cares for them, I am just the farrier of these cats. I take them to the vet, I haul their big sacks of assorted cat food, feed the outside cats, give them meds and treat wounds when needed and basically, do what I'm told, when it comes to the cats. I, personally, DO NOT get attached. As you know, I like all animals, but, we have cats up the ass here. I can hardly believe I have Indie in the house. I just don't do cats. Sorry.

I unloaded the carrier to take it inside the vet's office and I'll be fucked if the door didn't come open. When I reached down to close it, I saw this little sweet face with big green eyes. It got to me. She looked scared and in pain, but, trusting, somehow. There was no fight left in her. She was unable to walk. I felt so bad for her that I decided to stay with her while they put her to sleep. I could get past the smell to do that, because nothing deserves to die alone. Poor creature.

The vet came in with the needle and we both petted her. She was so damn sweet it was unreal. Then the vet said, "Pat, I know your mom asked us to put her to sleep, but, I think she might be saveable". I told her, I'd like to see her saved, but, if she needed some expensive surgery or something I wasn't up for that financially. She told me the cat had been suffering from a urinary infection for so long that her bladder and urethra were clogged with puss and that's what the terrible smell was. The cat was unable to void or drink, at this point. We had no idea how long she had been suffering. She said there was a chance she could fix her if  'some one' agreed to be responsible for her. I sighed, looked at that little face and said, okay, I will. The vet grinned. I think that bitch is a cat person. She proceeded to shave the cat's butt, which removed all the clogged up, hardened puss wads. And also, it turned out, that awful smell. She gave her two heavy duty antibiotic shots and told me I had to keep her hydrated. Even if she didn't want to drink. I also got some meds to take home. The vet wished me luck and told me to let her know how it turned out. I really didn't have a lot of hope for this animal and I have no idea what possessed me to go out of my way for her. The last thing I wanted was another cat, let alone a seriously ill one.

I'll try and make this story shorter. I did everything I was supposed to and the cat made it. It's hard to believe an animal that sick could bounce back, but, she did. In just a few days she went from a sickening mass of near death to a sweet adorable pet. I had planned on finding her a good home if she made it, because I can't handle another cat in this tiny house. I love my cat, Indie, I really do, but, he's such a total asshole. He is crazy and he's torn up or broken every thing I own. There is no way I can handle two of them. But, Gypsy isn't anything like Indie. Gypsy is SO nice. She just lays on the table all day and lays on my bed at night. (Which pissed Indie off, but, he got over it.) She never misbehaves, she's very clean, not picky about food and just no trouble at all. So, why give her away? She's so quiet you'd never know she was in here. She seems so grateful to have a home that all I have to do is look at her when I walk by and she starts purring. She's just the nicest animal I have ever met. Except for my daughter's dog, Ella. Ella is very polite and loveable too. Anyway, Gypsy now has a permanent home and her name on file at the vets with the name of her owner...me.

Indie just can't help himself. He just HAS to cause trouble all the time. You can't tell from the pics, but, Gypsy is a tiny cat. She only weighs about 5 pounds. Indie is quickly becoming a big, heavy tom cat. I can hardly lift him anymore. But, Gypsy only puts up with his shit for so long and then she growls and slaps him. He leaves her alone. I can't believe there's any living thing that can put him in his place. He is SUCH an asshole. She belongs here. It was meant to be, I guess.

Cat pee smell is the best.

She is beautiful. It was an easy fix, too. My neighbor's cat needed IVs every day, multiple times a day. After a big tussle with the vet who wanted to do it there, I got the ringer bags, tubes, needles and did it for her myself. The neighbor was quite capable but just could not put the needle in. No problem.

Yours sounds like a pleasure to be around. And I'm so glad she knows how to get rid of the pest. Some young-ins are just too much.

Melvin, no pee smell in here. We use that flushable litter. That stuff is amazing. I can't stand bad smells. I aint havin' it.

Border, man, you had a real hassle. I can do needles though. I don't like them, but, I had to give my horses their shots because I didn't have a horse trailer. Anyway, I can do most 'icky' things, if I have to. Yeah, the young'uns ARE pests, but, Indie goes far beyond. He is seriously a problem child.

She's lovely! Maybe she'll tame Indy a little?

What a sweet story. It really warms my heart that you gave her that chance to live, even though it would have been very easy to let her go. She is adorable, and I especially love her little orange striped jammie pants. She has a very sweet face, too. I am glad she found you.

Frimmy, I keep hoping Indie will grow out of it. I tell people what a lunatic he is, but, no one really gets it. This fucker jumps at the walls and tears down great big glass framed pictures. He LOVES to steal my jewelry and drop it down the sink drain. He does that a lot. He pulls the strainer thing out to do it. I even stuffed a wash cloth in it, but, he pulled it out and bam, there went a ring. He walks across the buffet and old wood cabinets and knocks all the glassware off, on purpose. He watches me to make sure I see him do it. It's endless. He's fucking nuts.

Well we have a lot to talk about! Merrrrow.

ps..he also steals things from anyone. He watches. He steals phones, remotes, iPods, wallets, keys, etc. He grabs them and runs. The tv remote was missing for a month. We never have found the iPod. Oh, and he WILL go through people purses and steal shit too. He knows what he's doing.

Moon, we do need to talk. I have missed you so much. I hope all is well.

Christina, isn't she a pretty color? She has that longish hair though. It clogs up my sinus'. But, oh well. She is SO sweet.

Gypsy and Indie. Perfect. My cat does the same stuff as Indie. That's actually how our garbage disposal got broken. I think it's a tomcat thing, though having a more calm cat will probably calm Indie down a bit.

And cats can already tell who a cat person is, even if that person didn't know it. d:

Is that right? So they all know I'm a sucker? Goddamn cats. Indie is a menace to society.

If you want a well behaved male cat just get a female cat that will beat the hell out of him.

I love Indie. Was he fixed? I think it would be a good idea. He loves you and he knows that by misbehaving you will pay attention. She is adorable.

Awww. Thank u Pat for what u did. I foster cats and kittens, its so hard to see an animal suffer or have to put them down. Now u have a beautiful calico girl to call ur own. laura jean

I'll try, Noelle, but, mostly all she does is sleep. She gets up once a day to eat, pottie and get brushed out. Then, back to bed.

Indie is neutered but, he won't stop being a tom. He's just awful. All the cats here are neutered or spayed.

Laurajean, thanks. All the people on this site are animal lovers and most of them help either strays or animal organizations. Except fucking PETA.
