The new old house..progress

I haven't blogged much about the house lately. It's been at a standstill because of other unexpected expenses, like new teeth and new car payments. (Which are almost paid off now.) But, the big disappointment was, some asshole tore out all the electric. The boxes and copper wiring etc. Assholes. The inspector wouldn't allow me to hook up electricity until I repaired a mile long list of infractions. But, today, it is done!!! I am just waiting for the inspector to come back and then I will have lights! And power tools, which will be amazing. It cost more than the house, which hurt, but, the house was pretty damn cheap, as you know, so I am still good. Paid in cash for the work. Now, I can save up and get the rest done. It won't take that long.

My cousin/brother, Joe is sick and having surgery, but, he is itching to get back to work here. He is the most amazing handy man and fast as hell. I told him to rest and get well, for fuck sakes. I can wait a bit. There's plenty I can do myself in the mean time. I've been landscaping and I am not doing the crazy granny cottage again. Not in front. It's going to be much more traditional and tame, but, I think it will be very pretty. ( I have decided the house will be white with pale yellow trim and a pink and yellow door. Very girly.) I chose Yews for the front, they are doing well and will fill in and look great with yule lights on them in Winter. As you can see, I bought a bunch of green blooming Hydrangea and Arbivite for the East side where it's sunny. I love that green Hydrangea, it's so old fashioned and gorgeous and this is a smaller variety. I shouldn't have to be trimming it yearly. I waited for sales and got ALL of it for less than $20 bucks. The hitch is, I have to get it in now and water well or it won't make it. So, today, Lis and I are going to bust sod and get it in. That Blue Spruce is almost on the line (my future Yule tree) and everyone is teasing me asking, "Did you get Joey's permission for that?" Supposed to be funny, but, not. I hate that crazy fucker now. I want to save and get one of those pre-fab vinal fences between us, because he spys on me constantly. His house is way too close. The house next to him is where Lissa's best friend Kayden lives, so that's nice. His foster mom and I can just look out the back door to see what they're up to in either yard. It makes life a lot less stressful.

I can't believe how well the transplanted Hostas are doing on that shade side. It's great. I plan to make a shade garden path and this is where my garden arch will go. The property line is so narrow right there that arch will have to go partly on Kenneth's property, but, he only uses that lot as a veg garden, so I don't think he'll mind. I'll ask him. But, he's a decent guy/neighbor. He gives me garden produce. I love that.

I'll post some more pics. I think this post is full up. Blogger limits me.

PS, notice Indie, he had to follow me to inspect it himself. He loves it there. I carried him across the busy street there though. I don't trust that yet, but, I'm sure he'll get wise in time.

Awesome! I've been wondering how things were going. I'm so looking forward to seeing the finished product.
I mentioned my hosta before and after looking it over, I need to split a lot more in the fall. Maybe I'll surprise you with a hosta care package on your doorstep some random weekend :)

I would go ape shit, I love Hosta so much, any kind. They just brighten up a shade spot, so elegant. And make cheap annuals like impatiens POP. Tell me what you'd like for trade. I have all kinds of plants.

I sent a few pics through FB. I have at least 7 or 8 that need splitting and a few that I can safely take a sliver off, so we could get a nice variety garden going. As for trade, I'm not picky...I love any flower.
P.S. My first attempt at sunflowers is shaping up to be pretty successful... They are over 8 ft at certain spots.

Love the pix and update. I thought you liked Joey. Did I get mixed up? He is wanting to get back to work and enjoys doing it or he's lazy?
I didn't realize you were across a street. I was picturing it as being on the same side. Boy, I sure picture things wrong. Could cut down on the snooping from the old ladies. You've got room for the chickens, I presume. I wonder what animals will find their way to you now. I do love the look of the place, and amazed at all the plants you have out already or ready to plant. Plants I had here close to the house were ripped out with all the stuff they threw in the yard. And the rest held on somehow with no water for a year. We've been in a draught and with no water for a year I don't know they did it. Guess they were used to neglect.
We are supposed to have a strong El Nino this year so I am looking forward to getting rain gutters. Having all kinds of trouble getting work done here but will bitch some other time and just enjoy your great pictures.

What small plants attract humming birds?

Love it love the horizontal pane windowss, the shape and size and the front deck/patio- watcha call it in Iowa?

White is perfect on that house and the girly thing sounds great -

It really sounds like a home I haven't put together how far it is from tuwella's but I"m guesising not spitting distance?

Is there room around the cabin to store stuff? I love old genuine junk so much I could practically drive the several thousand miles just to see for myself. My hubs loved it too.

We have only a few electric heaters but mainly heat with real wood stoves. I'm wondering how you're going to get enough wood, since chopping it yourself is so tough (for me anyway - luckily while hubs was still alive, we chopt some trees down, borrowed a splitter and we did all three trees.)

I am so damn envious of your yards, both of them. I can't wait until I can save enough money to buy some dirt and fill in this swamp. I love hostas too, but there is no place to put any here. I have been having to creat shade to keep my hydrangea alive. I am determined to make it live. I don't get it--my dad had one growing in sun and it did fine. But My dad could grow anything. Kind of like you!

What kind of tree is that? (ON the left in the last pic.) I'm looking for a fast growing tree for my side yard.

I love your place, and your plantings!!! I was worried that there was trouble, and so I didn't want to mention your new home until you did. Who on earth would have stripped out the wiring??? A meth addict? I sometimes hear about the stuff they steal to sell here. Sometimes they even steal guardrails.
I'm sorry you had such a spendy repair. That's really unfair, but I am glad that it is all done, and at least now you know for sure that the wiring is not outdated and in disrepair.

Border, hummingbirds love my bee balm, clematis, and phlox. Lilacs in season and I've also seen them hit my hosta when I let it bloom.

Love it!
What is the spikey stuff right by the sidewalk and sprinkler? It would look nice with the lavender I am going to plant.

Jane, I think you mean the Blue Spruce. It's a med grower. I put a tiny one in 6 years ago and it's 8 foot now, so not too fast, but, they stay blue and are gorgeous. The other is Arborvite, it's a fast grower, but, conical, it's a foundation plant and can be picky as shit. They either do great or die in a season. Just luck with them. I can recommend some good fast growers, I'll do a post.

Eriny, that's Blue Fescue grass. It stays moundy and is beautiful with flowers. It will have to be moved, but, that's the only place I had dug up to put it right now. The Yews will cover it eventually, so I will relocate it. It was on sale and I couldn't pass it up.

Hummmers LOVE Trumpet vine. If you have a shed or fence, that would be a great place for it.

Christina, the cunt boy stole it AFTER he sold it to me and got mad because I wouldn't fuck him. I hate that guy now.

Joe, is my first cousin, we grew up as brother and sister. He's grouchy, but, cool. His son, Joey, who I have always thought of as my nephew is the stupid cunt who goes to family reunions to get dates. I hate that bastard now and I want a fence between us so he can stop spying on me. His dad knows he's fucked up, we don't talk about it. It isn't his dad's fault and it's embarrassing (what happened.)

I'm giving the cabin to Lis for her clubhouse, it has electricity and is pretty cool. I can see what they're up to out there.

Also, to the troll cunt, you have been reported now for sexual remarks directed at a child. Now it's serious. They have your IP and so do I. I saved all your comments, I even left the ones that went to spam so I can prove it. Sexually harassing children is taken VERY seriously. They are coming for you. Besides, even if my kid was the biggest 11 year old slut on the planet, it would still be illegal and none of your biz. However, she is an innocent girl. I had to explain what a French kiss was the other day and I thought she's puke. So, you are way off base and a nasty pervert. Enjoy the legal ramifications. The internet is no longer anon, 'specially when it comes to minors.

Oh, as for wood, I have to have some tree work done, so there will be PLENTY, plus there's already a large wood pile already cut and stacked. I don't plan on using it for a main heat source, just for nice winter nights below zero and if the electric goes out. (Furnaces have fans.)

Pat, sorry to see you're still having troll problems. It's pretty low when you have to pick on kids.

The tree I'm talking about is the first pic--had to go back and look to make sure I had the right pic. It's the big one on the left. (I said "last" pic in first comment but it should have been "first".) Sometimes the marbles aren't all in the right slots and the brain just does not work.

Oh, Jane, that sucker is a Black Walnut. If you have squirrels, they pick up the nuts, otherwise, PAIN IN THE ASS. But, really, really fast grower. I can send you the nuts to plant, in two years, you'll have a tree. They just grow furiously. They are not the English Walnuts, the Blacks are just as pretty but damn near impossible to open the fruit. They grow all over here. I pull them all the time. They will easily reach 8 foot as soon as they sprout.

My jaw just dropped. He had the balls (probably actually grape nuts) to go in, after you bought the house, and rip all the wiring out???? What an asshole!!!! You need to have a taser, and teach him about electricity. Unbelievable that the little twerp did that. He really should have been arrested and sued for damage to your property. Bummer that you will now live next to him. I had not realized he would be so close. I hope that you have some plans to make his life "uncomfortable".
You must not feel like Lissa or your animals are in danger from him. Maybe he is just an asshole, but ripping out someone's wiring is pretty extreme. Please be careful.
