Des Moines water sytem fail..and why I should be in politics
Des Moines, Iowa water system infrastructure is failing and so is ours. So are water system infrastructures all over our state. Much of Iowa is facing serious trouble getting clean, safe drinking water because the ancient structures hidden under our streets are crumbling. If it doesn't show, aint nobody gonna throw any money at it, unless they face a crisis. Well, the crisis is just about on us. We had no water last week because of worn out old broken mains, this happens all the time here. Yet, what is this town spending money on? Digging up streets that have nothing wrong with them. But, they got a million dollar grant from the state for street work, so by god, we will have new streets. Seems like some of that money could have been legally diverted to the water system, if you ask me. But, no one asks me because I am not part of town government. In fact, I should feel lucky to be allowed to live in this town, seein' as how I don't even go to church. Bla bla.
If I was just a bit younger or in a bit better health, I swear, I'd run for mayor or something and my platform would be "I may not know how politics work, but, I have some common sense." And I can learn legalities. You can't learn common sense. I know you don't take 2 million bucks and tear the perfectly good water tower out and go outside of town and build a shiny new fangled one without fixing the 100 plus year old mains and pipes in town! It may look nice when it 'greets' us, but, the real water system is still fucked! I know you don't bring a bunch of bulldozers to a residential area (even if it is Guntown) and dig up every fucking street so people can't get any where. Wouldn't a city planner with a goddamn brain dig up every OTHER street, fix and then go back and do the remainder?? WTF idiots? Also why is MY street torn up? There was nothing wrong with it, nary a pot hole! WTF idiots?
If I did have a say in this town, I would strike out the no livestock law concerning small animals, so people could raise some of their own food. I specifically would lift all livestock laws in areas, like mine, where people have to live right next to the stock yards, live stock auction barns and grain bins! Are they nuts? If I have to smell hog poop and hear cows bellow all night, why can't I have a chicken? Laws have variables. You have to be reasonable about these things and you have to have some common sense.
That's what's wrong with government (besides blantant corruption), no one has common sense. All they know is laws. Laws can be changed, city ordinances can be changed. If they were, we wouldn't be buying bottled water or boiling water for the kids at public schools like they did at Lissa's school. Wouldn't even let them wash their hands in city water! But, by god, we will have new pavement where we didn't need pavement.
I have a thousand whys for this town. Why does one end of town have animal control and one doesn't? Why is our dog catcher afraid of dogs? Why are you digging up every street at once and giving us no place to drive? Why do we have to be hooked to rural water to sell a property here? Who decides all well water is no good and how much town water costs? Why has our water tested 'not safe' for decades? If our town water is not safe, why is it better than well water? Why do you send notices of unsafe water yearly, but, don't replace ancient plumbing under the streets? Why did you take the clock out of the tower and put it in a museum and charge us to see it? How much did the new clock cost? How much did the city spend on trees for the square's giant planters? Why don't you plant miniature trees instead of having to have tree removal every 3-5 years and then replanting? Doesn't that cost a lot? Why do you tell us you can't support the canopy of lights holiday display, when we all know it's just light bulbs we need? Why did you vote to make the handicapped access to the court house DOWN a set of stairs? (Yeah, seriously.) Why are you even discussing banning Pit Bulls when none of the many dog attacks in town have involved that breed? Why do you shut off access to tavern streets during celebrations? Do you understand how this impacts local business? But, then, YOU have the country club, don't you?
I could go on and on. I'm done now. The government is stupid everywhere and I don't know what the alternative is. Actually, I do. Bastards need a kick in the pants and to start spending where we need it instead of supporting right wing morons who worry more about gay marriage offending their god, than they do thinking about how normal people live their daily lives. It has to stop on a national level or we're all doomed.

BTW, until ALL states stop dumping their sewage into our water system, I will be drinking bottled water. And so should you. But, not just bottled water, make sure you get purified. Look up what that means and you will understand. None of our water is safe in Iowa and probably most other states.
They're still burning (shocking) the water around here. It wasn't strong enough the first time they did it. My water now smells like rotten eggs and bleach. I never did drink this water. I think the rotten egg smell comes from my own pipes. No one else has it.
No, I had that. Mine smelled like sewer and rotten eggs. I thought it was my pipes too. Guess what? Since they were forced to replace that old main, no smell. It was there because my actual water system was leaking! The one the city owns! Nasty stuff was in our water. I hated bathing in it. Now it's white, but, it smells fine like water. But, it is white. I don't know why. I thought, bubbles? But, no, it doesn't dissipate. It's fucked up. What do these idiots expect? Not only is the city plumbing antique, but, we put our shit into our water source!! It's unbelievable how stupid it is. Pour chemicals over sewage and then drink it. I think not.
