Pet deaths

My daughters rat died. Sherlock was a nice boy. He was the biggest rat I ever met and one of the sweetest. People who've never had a rat don't understand what nice little friends they are. RIP Sherlock...sorry, Casey J.

The little dog next door died too. That one that barked all the time. He got hit by a car because they wouldn't fix the fence. My life is more peaceful, but, it sucks because I really liked him. Bitey was quite a character. Rest in peace, Bitey.

My sympathy to anyone who's lost a pet lately, it just stinks.

Aawww, I'm sorry Casey J and to Bitey's family (even though they didn't deserve him). The pain of losing a pet is like losing a loved one. I know some people who aren't attached to their animals, but my dog is like my child, especially since I don't have any children.

Was Sherlock sick or old?

I wondered why you didnt include Jessica Simpson's beloved Maltypoo "Daisy" being eaten by coyotes in this post. It is the perfect forum. That dog was the last thing she was able to keep close to her since her divorce. Sad for her to see it happen in front of her! I am sorry for Casey J's loss of her pet rat. I hate rats, but if someone loves one, who am I to say? You took care of those dogs when they needed a drink of water this summer, all summer, and you knew they would die of neglect, & they did. Thats sad. My sympathies to friends that have lost a beloved pet too. It happens to all of us.

The fires in LA have changed animal behavior all over the area. They are very desperate. They seem to have little to no fear of humans and go right into yards & snatch pets, even right off the leash as the owner stands there! We have coyotes here too. They live in towns & cities as well as the rural areas. Be careful with your pets. Stay close, esp at night when they are out. Be safe & get back inside asap!

Coyotes always came into my yard too. I like them, but, you do have to be aware of small pets around them. I felt really sorry for Jessica losing Daisy. That's just sad.

The dog that is in the pic with Lissa and the rat looks exactly like my dog Roxie(when she was younger). Roxie is a pit/lab mix. What is this dog? The resemblance is unbelievable!

Maureen, that's Caseys pit bull, Rocko. He's a sweetie...he knows all kinds of tricks. He'll be on in his Halloween costume soon!

One of my dogs is elderly. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer 6 weeks ago, but is still happy and in no discomfort. I know, though, that the awful day is coming when I'll have to let her go. I don't know whether I'm looking at weeks or months and neither do the vets. I'm just trying to be happy for every extra hour I have with her. I rarely leave the house because I want to be with her in case she shows any discomfort. When I do, it's only for a few minutes. The vets have told me that she will show me subtle signs like no interest in food, not wanting to go for a walk, etc. I know I will look into her eyes and she'll tell me when she's ready.

I'm not a believer in the hereafter, but I comfort myself with the thought that maybe my husband will be waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge. It's my obligation to see that she gets there without suffering any pain, and I will no matter how much my heart breaks.

I sent their leashes ahead with him. He loved them so. Oh, geez. Now, I'm crying. I'm having such a hard time with this.

I do want to express my sympathy for Sherlock and Bitey, and anyone else who has lost a pet, too.

I'm so sorry Casey. Poor Bitey, too, I hope it was fast for him...

Coyote, I have tears in my eyes after reading your post...you know my husband snores, and I wear earplugs at night to sleep, but hearing him at night through my earplugs gives me comfort. I don't know what I would do if I lose him.

Ok I'm crying now too.

Sorry to hear about your pet rat, Casey. I always looked into animal's eyes and tried to guess what they are thinking. My brother had a Boxer that lived almost 16 years and recently died of stomach cancer. Cameron (the dog), was so sweet that she would purr like a cat and never showed a bit of aggressiveness. Her eyes looked like they were melting she was so tender. She herded the kittens and brought them in the house at night!. Miss you Cammi, good girl!.

Thank you to everyone. Sorry it took me so long to post. Sherlock was a great rat. I never thought I would own a rat and Sherlock was my first. He was an extraordinary creature. He was very loved and now very missed.
